artifarti · 17/06/2010 11:33

Hello everyone and welcome to the new thread for Round Two!

To recap, the basic rules are:
No chicklit
No abuse memoir type stuff
No horror
No hardbacks

Auto/biography is allowed as long as it?s not anything too obscure (or crap, obviously).

Chocolate to the value of about £2 each time.

Here is the list:
artifarti
aristocat
Dysgu
PistachioLemon
TheBuggerofSuburbia
stickylittlefingers
AgentProvocateur
LolaLadyBird
Itsjustafleshwound
pooter
muddleduck
LadyBee
FlyingMonkey
Maria2007
johnworf

johnworf is a new member so be nice!

As before, please email me at artifarti at hotmail dot co dot uk with the initials of your chosen book and author (e.g. ROTN by TH for Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy) so I can check there are no duplicates. I will assume all your name, address and chocolate details remain the same unless you tell me otherwise (johnworf, please send me yours)

Please do this on or before July 10th. Then I will email you all with the name of the new person you are to post the books to (we are reversing, for anyone that hasn't picked that up.)

No-one has indicated that they want to drop out so I am assuming not at the moment.
I have now read all the books so I am thinking about which was my favourite - so many good ones, a difficult choice.

Morning All. Too bleary to speak much this morning as if DS does not wake me at 5am, the neighbour's alarm clock wakes me at 5.25am (think he has left it and gone on holiday, the twat)

aristocat and Dysgu - emails received.

Right, here is the full list of books for your voting pleasure (in the usual order - that's why mine is first!). Email me with your choice to the usual address:

The Water of the Hills by Marcel Pagnol (artifarti)
Suzanne?s Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson (aristocrat)
PopCo by Scarlett Thomas (Dysgu)
Black Swan Green by David Mitchell (poshwellies)
October Sky by Homer Hickam Jnr (whinegums/thebugger)
The Weather in the Streets by Rosamund Lehmann (stickylittlefingers)
The Story of Lucy Gault by William Trevor (MrsMuddle/AgentProvocateur)
The House at Riverton by Kate Morton (LolaLadybird)
The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy (itsjustafleshwound)
A Month in the Country by J L Carr (pooter)
Cat?s Eye by Margaret Atwood (muddleduck)
Love Walked In by Marisa de los Santos (LadyBee)
Any Human Heart by William Boyd (FlyingMonkey)
The Greatest Gift by Danny Leigh (Maria2007)

Some of us have been missing in action from the threads for quite a while. I will email them today if the matchsticks keep my eyes open long enough!

OP posts:
PistachioLemon · 02/07/2010 09:27

arti I have emailed my vote - very difficult choice, I have to say.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 02/07/2010 13:22

Hi!!

I'm really sorry I've disappeared... its been ages hasn't it. But I have a good excuse: finally submitted my PhD (have been working on it for 5 years ) this last week!!

Am really happy & keen to participate in new swap club as a) I have a book in mind that I think is better than last year's choice and b) I will have much much more time this year for reading non-PhD related stuff

Arti, have emailed you directly with my book choice. Just wanted to say though, I never received your book (Water of the hills) from FlyingMonkey nor did I receive my own book back yet. Wonder if she's ok? Have you emailed her? And also, is she participating in next swap?

artifarti · 02/07/2010 13:25

Welcome back Maria I emailed FlyingMonkey yesterday as she has not been on the threads for a while; no reply as yet. I guess that posting day was only yesterday for the last book though so you might get it soon.

OP posts:
FlyingMonkey · 02/07/2010 20:32

Hi, sorry, I haven't had a chance to post the next book yet. Will try and get it in the post tomorrow.

I haven't had Maria's book - there's still one more from the this round to go before the next round, right?

artifarti · 02/07/2010 21:04

Hi FlyingMonkey - yes, there's one more. I have also emailed LadyBee (your poster) who has been MIA off the thread for a while. Hope you're up for the next round? (Deadlines etc. at start of this new thread.)

OP posts:
muddleduck · 02/07/2010 23:33

Hi all

LadyBee - I'm running a bit late this month. I'm loving the book and really want to finish it before I post. Can I keep it a few days more?

Dysgu · 04/07/2010 16:50

pistachiolemon sorry - the chocolate is bought and the book is finished. Now I just need to get everything together and get it posted. I will get to the post office after work tomorrow - sorry, late again!

Having chosen my book I am now trying to track down a second copy. I guess I must have bought it when I lived in America. I do have a second option but I am going to try ebay now...

artifarti · 04/07/2010 17:47

OP posts:
LolaLadybird · 05/07/2010 22:54

Hi All. Sorry, I have been missing in action for a while (just a v busy few weeks to contend with) so I've been reading this thread to catch up.

AgentP - thank you for the book and choc. I sent the same choc to Itjusta a couple of months ago so I now know how yummy it is!

Itsjusta - will be off to the post office in the morning with this month's book. Apologies for the delay but it is a short one so you will have no trouble getting it read in time.

Arti - when does voting close? I feel like I shouldn't be casting my vote while I still have this month's book to read. Have just started it and it could be a contender ...!

artifarti · 06/07/2010 07:33

LolaL - good point about the voting. I got the last two books early so forgot that many others have still got one to read. Duh! So vote when you've finished the last book...

OP posts:
TheBuggerofSuburbia · 06/07/2010 08:43

Hello everyone. PistachioLemon, am I expecting a book from you this month, I'm well confuddled now after the missing one? I haven't read stickylittlefingers's book I think.

PistachioLemon · 06/07/2010 11:04

Bugger you might get a book today in the post - or at least you should, I posted it on Saturday but it was 1st class because I was a little late...oh and hope you like the choc - it's different to the others.

PistachioLemon · 06/07/2010 11:05

Dygsu no worries, I'm just finishing another book so I wouldn't have started on it earlier anyway. DH is looking forward to the chocolate!

muddleduck · 07/07/2010 11:14

Hi Arti.

I think I'm going to have to withdraw from the next cycle. I've really enjoyed this year, but I have a huge stack of other books I want to read and I don't have time for these and the book club books. I will send you my vote.
Thanks to all of you for some fab books

artifarti · 07/07/2010 11:39

muddleduck - thanks for your vote. Sorry to say goodbye but you can always come back! (Hope you've got a huge stack of chocolate too )

By coincidence, a RL book club/MN friend has just emailed to ask if she can join our swap. Would that be okay given that we now have a space? That would keep us at 15, which was our original number - and then the doors are closed, I promise!

OP posts:
aristocat · 07/07/2010 14:28

muddleduck sorry that you cant continue with our book swap.
loved having you in it as we had such a difference of opinion ......

artifarti · 10/07/2010 07:46

'Tis the 10th everyone!

pooter, TheBugger and LadyBee - are you with us? Book choices please!

OP posts:
TheBuggerofSuburbia · 10/07/2010 10:00

PistachioLemon, I've got it now, thanks - have been away this week, but it turned up on Tuesday.

I'm going to drop out as well - sorry. I've really enjoyed it, but I've been late with every book, and I don't want to hold up the swaps again. RL gets in the way! I made my mind up when I couldn't get hold of another copy of the book I was going to choose, so I've let fate decide. Maybe I could come back next time?

Arti, I'll send my vote once I've finished this month's book.

aristocat · 10/07/2010 13:45

theBugger noooooooooooo i loved your last book
sorry youre not going to continue - just let us know if you change your mind ......

TheBuggerofSuburbia · 10/07/2010 13:59

Awww aristo, how lovely of you. I will let you all know - assuming I'm allowed back!

RespectTheDoughnut · 10/07/2010 14:04

If people are dropping out, is there room for a new one? Feel free to tell me to get stuffed if you're already organised!

Itsjustafleshwound · 10/07/2010 16:31

chaps - thank you for some lovely reads, but I think I am also going to withdraw from the club - I have so many books that I want to read on my shelves and never even get round to looking through the newspaper every day!

Thank you for some excellent reads (and chocolate!!)

Perhaps Respect can take my place???

artifarti · 10/07/2010 17:26

Boo-hoo, sorry to see you both go, itsjusta and TheBugger. I will email you both if and when a new round starts to see if you want to rejoin.

RespectTheDoughnut - am happy for you to join. Have you read this thread to see what the 'rules' are and at the list of the books that we chose last time? (so that you can see whether we like vaguely similar books to you.)
