Of Mice and Maltesers - the new thread for Round Two

artifarti · 17/06/2010 11:33

Hello everyone and welcome to the new thread for Round Two!

To recap, the basic rules are:
No chicklit
No abuse memoir type stuff
No horror
No hardbacks

Auto/biography is allowed as long as it?s not anything too obscure (or crap, obviously).

Chocolate to the value of about £2 each time.

Here is the list:
artifarti
aristocat
Dysgu
PistachioLemon
TheBuggerofSuburbia
stickylittlefingers
AgentProvocateur
LolaLadyBird
Itsjustafleshwound
pooter
muddleduck
LadyBee
FlyingMonkey
Maria2007
johnworf

johnworf is a new member so be nice!

As before, please email me at artifarti at hotmail dot co dot uk with the initials of your chosen book and author (e.g. ROTN by TH for Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy) so I can check there are no duplicates. I will assume all your name, address and chocolate details remain the same unless you tell me otherwise (johnworf, please send me yours)

Please do this on or before July 10th. Then I will email you all with the name of the new person you are to post the books to (we are reversing, for anyone that hasn't picked that up.)

No-one has indicated that they want to drop out so I am assuming not at the moment.
I have now read all the books so I am thinking about which was my favourite - so many good ones, a difficult choice.

I've sent artifarti an email, but if anyone can point me in the direction of the original list of books (not the list on this thread) so I don't duplicate with my choice, that'd be great

RespectTheDoughnut · 10/07/2010 18:00

Unless I'm confused & the list on this thread is the original list? That seems quite likely now I've had 5 minutes to think about it without a 1 year old climbing over me at the same time

artifarti · 10/07/2010 18:14

Yes, we have just had the one round so far so these are all the books we've read on this thread, fear not!

OP posts:
RespectTheDoughnut · 10/07/2010 18:18

Ah, good. I promise I'm not usually so stupid Have emailed you my choice then

Thanks aristocat

stickylittlefingers · 11/07/2010 22:46

hi - it's been busy here! AgentP - I got your book off Amazon. Enjoying so far. Are you a fan of John McGahern? I was given That they may face the rising sun for my birthday a few years ago (when I still lived in Ireland). Just lovely, slow, poetic, atmospheric. If you've not already read it I'd recommend it!

chandellina · 12/07/2010 09:47

Hi it's myRLfriendwhoseMNnameIdon'tknow here, aka Chandellina!

Thanks for letting me join the swap, and I hope my choice gets a good reception.

artifarti · 12/07/2010 22:13

Welcome chandellina.

Wonderful to see chandellina here!! Welcome...

Dysgu · 13/07/2010 23:24

Hello all - and farewell to those opting out this round.

PistachioLemon I have posted but very late - sorry sorry sorry! Must to better!

Arti* I have sent my vote now I have read the last book.

I think I am sticking with my first choice for this second round. DP has managed to track down a second hand copy which should be heading across the ocean as we speak/type. Not sure it 'fits' with many of the previous books but hopefully some people will enjoy it.

Is the plan to post to 'new' address at the start of August?

PistachioLemon · 14/07/2010 11:57

Dygsu don't worry about it, I got the book yesterday, thank you, and due to a massive bout of insomnia last night I'm already half way through . I can report that the chocolate is completely finished too .

Arti I may have to change my vote now... can I do that still?

stickylittlefingers · 14/07/2010 12:08

Hello - arti are we getting the addresses and chocolate choices soon for our new sendees?... I'm just thinking that I will be off on holiday at the beginning of the school holidays so if I didn't know beforehand I would be really late when I got back. Sorry to be a pest!

pooter · 14/07/2010 12:19

sorry i have been absent from teh thread - lord knows what ive been doing instead, certainly not housework or anything productive

I will email arti immediately - staying in the group if thats ok - but sorry to see that the two either side of me, itsjusta and muddleduck are both going .

stickylittlefingers · 14/07/2010 12:39

Pooter - do you smell or something??

artifarti · 14/07/2010 18:44

I think I have nearly rounded everyone up now and should be there in a day or so.

I will try and email ASAP but things are a bit hectic at the moment so I can't promise. slf - when are you going, then at least I could get the details to you?

OP posts:
artifarti · 14/07/2010 21:05

Oh - and in answer to the other questions:

Yes we are aiming to post on August 1!

Yes PL you can change your vote!

I cannot comment on whether pooter smells.

OP posts:
aristocat · 15/07/2010 10:28

arti have emailed you with my fave choice ....

pooter · 15/07/2010 17:28

how rude slf

actually i probably do smell. if an item of clothing only has one bit of baby sick on it - that counts as clean in my (stinky) book!

stickylittlefingers · 15/07/2010 17:47

well, that would explain it !!

arti I'm off on 26th, but really would need to know earlier on in the week if poss as by the weekend it will be all packing and mayhem, and no time for chocolate buying and post office visiting! Of course, I can pack all my belongings in a small ruck sack in ten minutes flat, but dd1's holiday wardrobe may take a least one day to decide on, if not two! Hope that's OK...

LadyBee · 16/07/2010 20:23

Hi ladies, so sorry I've been such a rubbish bookclubber - I have tried to keep up with the books and posting, but have been a bit obsessed preoccupied with our efforts at TTC no.2, suffering a miscarriage earlier this year and then getting pregnant again, with all the anxiety that brings. I'm still in the early stages, but am trying to be a bit more balanced about life generally - so if you'll have me back, I'd love to participate in this second round.

arti, I need another day to choose a book and I promise I'll send the title tomorrow for checking against clashes.

I'm not going to vote though, as I don't feel I can be fair - seeing as some didn't get read entirely (or at all ).

I hope this is ok. Kick me if I don't post...I need help not to become entirely self-obsessed with this pregnancy.

artifarti · 16/07/2010 21:22

Welcome back LadyBee. And (again) big congrats!

OP posts:
aristocat · 17/07/2010 00:02

LadyBee congratulations

LolaLadybird · 17/07/2010 07:22

Arti - I'm really sorry to cause you a further administrative nightmare but having given it a bit more thought, I'm going sit this round out (sits back and waits for the angry face emoticon!!)

I think there were about 4 books I didn't read/finish last time and I also feel like I don't get enough time to read books of my own choice so not doing either very well!

Good luck for the next round. Will keep my eyes peeled in a year or so to see if you'll have me back in after that!
