I'm a bit confused..

Are we starting the new book swap at the end of June or July?

Do you all want me to post my three suggestions of new books to see if anyone has read them, or should I just pick myself??

What are you reading this month jamaisjedors? I don't think I ever got a massive book in the original swap.

PositiveAttitude · 20/06/2010 20:01

Major - It might be helpful to post on here the 3 books, so that if anyone has read one, you can chose another to send, if thats ok.
I think the plan is to send our first book of this next "round" by the end of June. FlyingCloud I will send on Wednesday, as I am then away for a week, sunning myself in Greece! - Yay, cant wait!!!

Not getting on at all with the book again this month.... cos I havent got one!!!!

All new start next month

Any news from HC1+another 1??

MajorPettigrew · 20/06/2010 20:54

Right ladies - I've got my list of possible books, so let me know if you've read any of them.

Small Island - Andrea Levy
The Crimson Petal and the White - Michel Faber
An Instance of the Fingerpost - Iain Pears
The Testament of Gideon Mack - James Robertson

I'll post onto Lovebeing next week.

Enjoy your holiday PA (feel very jealous!)
We're going to Loch Lomond in 2 weeks - bound to bloody rain!

JasonIsaacsIsRatherGorgeous · 20/06/2010 21:05

Hi Major I've got Small Island packed in my suitcase for when I go on holiday IN 10 DAYS TIME!!!! Sorry am I shouting just a little bit excited.

Will post my book onto whoever before I go though.

Jamais don't worry about it, once you get into it you're going to fly through it. She's got the The Girl with Dragon Tattoo Major it's FlyingCloud's book.

Still no news of baby HC?

MajorPettigrew · 20/06/2010 21:10

Right-ho. I'll scratch Small Island off the list.

Where are you off to on holiday Jason?

PositiveAttitude · 20/06/2010 22:15

I am reading "Small Island" now! Its brilliant!! Been sat on my bookshelf for a few months and I didnt think i was going to be that impressed, but oh, its lovely!! Its coming on holiday with me, too!!

The girl with the Dragon Tattoo - JJ once you get into it, I guarantee you wont be able to put it down and will whizzzzzz through it!!

jamaisjedors · 21/06/2010 08:30

I think I have read (parts) of the Crimson Petal... is it a huge tome about victorian England (& a prostitute?).

Who am I posting to with the Dragon Tatoo then?

I thought it was LBAM? Maybe Major hasn't had it yet?

JasonIsaacsIsRatherGorgeous · 21/06/2010 09:43

I thought it would be going back to FC.

I've just sent you an email regarding sending to me this month, as I need a book to read on my holiday. Did I mention I was off on holiday in 10 days?

I'm going to Turkey. We've booked several holidays over the past 8 years and have never got there, DS broke bones in the week before we were supposed to go for two holidays, car broke down on the way to Italy last year and we had to come back to Brittany. So this is going to be our first proper holiday in 8 years and I'm really looking forward to it. Have got to get DS through this week first, he's not allowed on his bike or the trampoline and in fact is actively being encouraged to just sit on the sofa watching TV for the week . Car got a good seeing to last week so it's just got to get me to the airport next week and then provided BA don't transfer their strikes to Gatwick, there is no volcanic dust - we're going to have a proper holiday.

So cross your fingers everyone.

jamaisjedors · 21/06/2010 10:17

Fingers duly crossed and book will be in the post tomorrow.

Will wait to hear about FC's book because some other people may not have read it.

loler · 21/06/2010 10:29

sleep over was too good to be true - took dds friend home at 10pm - at least I didn't have to pretend to be nice in the morning!

The dragon tatoo book was very good and I've just bought the two follow up books. If Major hasn't read it (she joined late so don't think she did) - it's worth reading.

Do you think we should do a mark out of ten for each book so we could end up with the ultimate sometimes lovely mums reading guide?

HC - hope you're doing well and are having time to squeeze in a read.

MajorPettigrew · 21/06/2010 19:10

Yes - Crimson Petal is about Victorian Hookers! (That one now off the list too!)

I've read all of the 'Girl with..' books, so don't worry about getting it to me. Agree with everyone else - they are great.

Hope you have a great holiday Jason - sounds like you have had some bad luck in past years, so fingers crossed for you.

I like the idea of marking the books out of 10 (although I don't want mine to be bottom - not that I'm a sore loser )

What happened at the sleepover Loler? People keep asking my DS to sleepovers. So far I've resisted. He's only 4 ffs!!! It's my idea of hell - other peoples children at bedtime. Urgghh!

loler · 21/06/2010 19:16

Major - look at the back end of the last thread for our book lists - you should make sure you;ve not read any of them.

MajorPettigrew · 21/06/2010 19:51

Had a look at the proposed books off the last thread.
The ones I have read are -

Loler - One Day, David Nicholls
Jamaisjedors - Espedair Street, Iain Banks
Jason - Shadow of the Wind (LOVE IT! But Angel's Game was rubbish, very cross about that)

If any of you were planning on using those - don't worry about changing your choices. I don't mind reading any of them again.

My 2 still on the list are Instance of the Fingerpost (Historical murder mystery)

Testament of Gideon Mack (Scottish Minister who doesn't believe in God meets the devil - sounds weird.... but very good) Anyone else read these??

loler · 21/06/2010 20:25

My replacement then -

Attention all shipping - Charlie Connelly

MajorPettigrew · 21/06/2010 20:45

Not read that one Loler.

flyingcloud · 22/06/2010 20:16

Hello.

Shadow of the Wind - great book, Angel's Game - terrible!

Mine for the end of the mont are:
The Elegance of the Hedgehog - Muriel Barbary
Paper Moon - Andrea Camilleri
Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro
Notes on a Scandal - Zoe Heller
Then We Came To The End - Joshua Ferris

let me know what you think!

MajorPettigrew · 22/06/2010 20:24

I'm sorry FC but I've read

Notes on a Scandal
Then We Came to the End
Never Let Me Go (although didn't finish this. Something just didn't click and I lost interest)

Think it's good that you didn't like Angel's Game either. I ws really looking forward to the publication and was SO gutted.
Was like Matrix Reloaded all over again (another tale of disappointment)

JasonIsaacsIsRatherGorgeous · 22/06/2010 21:16

Just read Notes on a Scandal last week, in fact started a thread about on our FB page.

Haven't read t'others though.

HC1 · 23/06/2010 08:56

Hi girls

Edward was born last Monday - 14th June. It has taken me this long to get to the computer as all I seem to do is feed at the moment. He is rather like his brother - slow.
Otherwise we are all doing well. DS1 is adapting well to the new addition.
Haven't picked up a book since but determined to do so soon as it is what kept me sane last time.
Not had chance to catch up on thread yet but hope all is well with everyone.
Loving the sunshine now I am without bump.

jamaisjedors · 23/06/2010 09:17

CONGRATULATIONS HC2!

Glad everyone is doing well and that DS1 is adapting - 2 boys is great

Are you bf?

There is hope for reading with bf yet, it was my excuse to sit around and read with DS1, I got myself set up with cushions, telephone, glass of water and book and read for hours (slow feeder too).

Hope you are not too shattered.

looking forward to chatting with you more soon.

MajorPettigrew · 23/06/2010 13:04

Congratulations HC1.

SO pleased to hear that everything is OK with you and Edward. (Lovely name)

Enjoy the sunshine on a comfy chair whilst feeding. Keep your feet up and let other people run around after you!!!

LoveBeing34 · 23/06/2010 13:13

Congratulations, second the feeding being a good excuse reason for sitting down and reading.

JasonIsaacsIsRatherGorgeous · 23/06/2010 13:24

Congratulations too, I agree a two boys combination is fab (although sometimes a little wild).

Take it easy and enjoy those lovely long cuddles.

PositiveAttitude · 23/06/2010 14:53

CONGRATULATIONS!! Lovely name (You'll see from facebook I have an Edward too )

Just going to post on the wall!

PositiveAttitude · 23/06/2010 15:00

JJ WHERE IS THE THREAD??????
