Hi all - Evan David Nelson Langford made a quick, early arrival at 3.16 am this morning after something of a dash to the hospital! He weighs exactly 5 lb and is perfect.
I did have niggling pains at around 11pm but they were not hurting and as contractions had stopped on Tuesday I did not pay them much attention and headed to bed. I was woken with a GUSH at 2.05 am and within 5 minutes big contractions were coming. I timed a few and they seemed to be up to 90 seconds long and coming every 2 or 3 minutes so I woke DP about 2.25 am and called my parents to come over to be with DDs.
DDad headed over - but whilst living very close, the floating bridge that connects to two towns does not run between midnight and 5am so he had to drive the long way round and there are traffic works that cause a long diversion - even though there was very little traffic!
DDad arrived and we left home at 2.55 am. We are close to the hospital so were there by 3.05 am and I had been told when I called to head straight for Labour Ward and not maternity. As I walked in to Labour Ward they were just preparing a delivery room so I had an other contraction before climbing onto the bed. MW was connecting the monitor and trying to take my BP etc and I told her I needed to push. She told me all was fine and gave me the gas and air so I told DP to tell her I needed to push! They managed to undress me from the waist down after my second contraction on the bed.
I remember saying "it's coming. I promise you, it's coming" and she said yes, it was fine.
And there was a baby on the bed between my legs! We had been in the delivery room less than 10 minutes!
I think everyone was surprised at just how quickly he made an appearance! I think he rode out on a wave of amniotic fluid as the place was soaked (and my slippers, which were on the floor, have had to be binned!)
1st degree tear so no stitches. Gas and air to deliver the placenta.
Dp went down to NICU where they had taken the baby and came back with first pictures. Then DP headed home and was home before DDs got up for school/pre-school. They came to meet their baby brother after school and have declared they love him and want him to come home soon and that we should keep him!
I am now home - hoping to get some sleep in my own bed and hospital is a hard place to sleep as alarms go off all the time. They don't have a transition ward here - that is the next step and they are currently setting it up. I will go in again in the morning and have been given a pump to use as we try to establish a milk supply. Nothing happening yet - at all - with hand expressing or the pump but I will keep going. I have struggled before and only managed to express any milk until both DDs' due dates before giving up....
Hope all else are well - off to sleep for a bit before trying to express again.
