Already posted in pregnancy - is it worth phoning the doc's for this?

I'm only 4.5 weeks, only found out I was pregnant a couple of days ago.

Had some bright red spotting during the night (noticed after getting up with DS), not very much. Am continuing to have spotting when I go to the loo this morning, still not very much. Have very mild stomach pains, but nothing worse than I've been having for the past week or so.

I'm sort of assuming that it will all end in MC, but if by some miracle I don't start 'properly' bleeding today, can the doc do a blood test/scan or anything to see whether everything's OK? Can't imagine having to wait till 12 weeks to find out it all went wrong at 4 weeks...

yes phone the hospital who is responsible for your care during pregnancy. they will do a hormone test to see if your hormone levels are dropping. i dont think there is much they can do to stop the inevitable but they can put your mind at rest. you may just be spotting and go on have a full term pregnancy. i hope so

Sorry to hear you are worried.

Doc couldn't do anything and AFAIK a scan would not show anything conclusive at this stage.

Might be worth asking to speak to a nurse about how they handle early pregnancy issues where you are, seems to vary from county to county.

Thanks for your thoughts - I think I'm going to see if it turns into a proper bleed today, but phone docs if it doesn't - maybe we can arrange a blood test or something, or at least a scan at 6-8 weeks.

If it turns into a proper bleed though, it shouldn't be much more than a normal period, so guess there's nothing to be gained by speaking to docs.

Hopefully I replied on the other thread but just to add with it being such early days and the fact that you have had some bleeding already you will probably get an accurate result on a HPT today if you are anxious to know. (i.e. if it is a m/c you will almost certainly test negative today)

Might be worth doing one if it the waiting that is upsetting you.

I feel like a complete wanker getting so anxious when I'm about five minutes pregnant - I only tested because it was DP's birthday (when I was a few days late) the other day, otherwise I'd assume it was my period coming a week later than normal!

Do you have an early preg unit, or equiv?
Scan wouldnt show anything much at this stage, but they could do some blood tests and test HCG levels. Could be a bit of reassurance, either way
I had a couple of M/c at this stage and the second time I thought it might be easier to just let it happen naturally but I wanted to know for certain so went and got it checked out.

Hi Hopefully - I was on your antenatal board, but also started bleeding. My gp offered me nothing, no scan or blood tests. Just said I should treat it like a heavy period. I also feel a bit daft - I only knew I was pregnant for 5 days, but I had worked this baby into our future, we had planned the years holidays and Christmas.
We are going to start trying again soon, I really want a baby by the end of this year now. I am being a bit of a nightmare actually!

Please don't feel like a wanker! Not knowing whether you're pregnant is a huge issue, it's only human to want some reassurance.

Still spotting a bit, but have sister over to babysit DS while I slob on MN take it easy for a few hours.

Still unsure what's happening, been spotting on and off all day. Not heavily though - have yet to need to change the sanitary towel I've got on.

Finally caved and phoned doc, who was surprisingly lovely (despite being about 14 and male), and booked me in for a scan at EPU on Tuesday morning. He did say that it wasn't looking great, but mentioned that it was worth going to EPU anyway to talk about cervical damage during delivery of DS (v fast, cervical and third degree tears) - will be just thrilled if that's causing problems .

Guess it's just a case of waiting now. I assume that I'll know when it gets heavy enough to actually be MC instead of 'threatened MC'? Can I expect to at least be looking for period heaviness?

Sorry to keep hassling you lot, but don't want to keep randomly starting new threads!

How much can I expect to bleed with this MC? Bleeding continued very lightly all day yesterday, then got nearly as heavy as a period in the evening, and appears to be tailing off this morning.

I am fairly certain that everything's over (no pg symptoms to speak of, and they were beginning to build on Tue/Wed last week - I know that's not definitive, but combined with when I started bleeding seems fairly certain), but I'm paranoid about leaving the house in case I suddenly start leaking everywhere!

If this is only likely to be the same as a normal period I'll just whack on a super duper towel and go out. Any advice/opinions much appreciated!

Sorry for being so crap, but don't think I could cope with bleeding all over the city on top of everything else...

Hi Hopefully - sorry to hear your news.

Strangely after my chemical pregnancy last month my period was slightly lighter, although I do suffer from very heavy periods so was still heavy, but lasted more days than usual.

I would think you will be fine with a super duper towel as long as you change it regularly.

Thanks Nancydrew - bleeding stayed much the same all day (period sort of heaviness now), so no dramatic bleeding anywhere.

My sis just came over with sticky toffee pudding and mince pies, bless her.

Glad I found this thread - I'm in exactly the same boat as you, Hopefully, down to only having known for five days.

Have just done 3 pg tests and they were all neg. Don't say you feel like a w*nker though - I'm completely devastated too. Like you say, it's not just the little clump of cells you mourn, it's the potential.

I was really worried about pain and bleeding - if it's really only going to be like a period then it could be worse, I suppose.

Still shocked, I think. Just want to go to bed and pull the duvet over my head and howl, but have DS and work and it doesn't stop even when it should, does it?

Sorry to hear the sad news stillfrazzled. Hope you're feeling as ok as you can - I find looking after DS (a) keeps me busy and (b) reminds me how lucky I am, in the grand scheme of things.

Have you stopped bleeding etc? I'm down to only light spotting now, have not had very bad cramps at all (no worse than period), but thankfully all pg symptoms have now gone - the nausea, slow moving gut and spots were horrible little reminders.

Hi Hopefully, felt OK-ish at work, just sad really, but felt worse and worse on the journey home as nothing else to think about.

Bit better now I'm home and cuddling DS and DH is here. Like you say, I still have so much.

But no bleeding or anything - just cramps. Wish I knew what the hell was going.

I was having a cry with DP about it, and there really is no better word for it than sad. It's a really sad situation, and there's nothing you can do about it but carry on and know it will get less sad.

Have you got a doc's appointment? I suppose if you had positive tests and are now getting negative ones, but haven't had any bleeding, that it might be worth it? Hope the cramps aren't too bad, make sure to take painkillers - no point braving it out.

I'm not doing too badly. Am determinedly sitting on the fantasy that I keep catching myself in that they're going to find a baby at the scan tomorrow. I have passed a reasonable amount of bloods, small clots etc, and I know I am no longer pregnant (not a symptom in the world), but I keep thinking, 'oh, maybe there's a chance'. It's annoying, as I sort of have to come to terms with it all over again. That should be done with tomorrow though, and if all's OK we can try again asap.

Sad is right. I've been through angry and disbelieving and now I'm just really, really sad.

Going to go to Dr tomorrow. Kind of hoping they can just remove everything so I can draw a line and it'll be over, you know? Cramps really not bad at all, just nagging.

Well, had my appointment.

No further investigation needed unless I actually have pain or start bleeding, apparently. No anti-D either, which can?t say I?m very comfortable with but don?t think I can insist.

Dr didn't even say I had to wait before trying again.

Strange that they don't want to investigate more - will they do anything if you don't start bleeding within a reasonable timeframe?

Has my scan and, as expected, everything's gone. Think sonographer was a bit surprised by how well I took it - didn't bother explaining I did all my weeping on the weekend! Good news is that there's nothing retained and I can get on with TTC whenever I want.

I suppose they're thinking it was so early that there probably wasn't much to lose. So am now wondering if I lost the baby because I didn't have enough lining. Not that have any medical or physical knowledge to back this up, is just straw-grabbing.

Is it true that you're super-fertile after a mc?

I have no idea about lining, but my MC was significantly lighter than a 'normal' period for me, which makes me think that my lining mustn't have been up to much. According to scan it's now 6mm. I have not a clue what that means...

Am also clinging on to hope of super-fertility after MC
