Bleeding at 6 weeks. Is there any possibility this ISN´T a MC? (desperate!)

I have bled sporadically for a few days now. Not every day. And sometimes only pink and light. Sometimes a bit heavier though. I have not had any cramping though.

Is there anyway I am not having a MC? I must admit, I am not feeling any pg symptoms though. Just very tetchy.

If I do a pg test will it show negative if i have lost the baby?

I´m on hols abroad at the moment, so signed in on hotel connection. Therefore won´t be able to respond much, as only have 7 minutes left. I will check later for any responses though.

The bleeding had actually started to ease off a little by the time we went on our holidays. On the first night we were there, the bleeding returned, and soaked right through my shorts (attractive, eh?). I was taken by ambulance (vomiting into a binbag, nice) to a Spanish hospital, where the doctor informed me I was probably miscarrying. I even have the paper that he gave me to give to the insurance company when we got home. Obviously he didn't confirm that as he didn't scam me. I refused to have a scan and instead waited til I got home - six hideous days, with my mum constantly on the phone saying, 'not long now'.

The day after we got home I was scanned, and saw my little cashew nut on the screen, heartbeat flickering away.

Scan me, not scam me. That would have been bad.

I am also bleeding today. Am five weeks. Have got period like pains.

Sorry HalfMumHalfBiscuit, I don't remember having period like pains, but am sure someone else will be along soon who can help.

I had bleeding at about six weeks and again at about eight weeks when I was pregnant with DS so I do feel for you because you just want to have a scan right away and find out whether everything is ok. With me the scans showed everything was fine and they told me that some bleeding is apparently normal, as long as you're not having cramps.

Try not to worry as there is nothing you can do about it (easier said than done I know!). Fingers crossed for you.

I've had bleeding of varying amount early on in all three of my pregnancies, I have four healthy children. Keeping everything crossed for you.

A pg test will likely show positive even if you were having a MC. All you can do is try to rest. The fact that you havent had cramping is positive.

I had bleeding and cramps with dd2 at around 7 weeks

No cramping is a positive sign, but it isn't conclusive etiher way. I also had cramping, period like pains. Was also told I was probably having MC. dd is 8.

I bled at 6 weeks for a couple of days - wasn't an MC. Try to calm down and do another test tomorrow if it sets your mind at rest.

Unless it was accompanied by quite severe cramps I wouldn't worry too much. Bleeding can occur (and did with me) for all sorts of random reasons. It's horrible and scary but it is usually ok.

I don't think a test will tell you anything tbh

I bled early on with both of my pregnancies - now 5 and 7 yr old girls. I had mild cramping with both and with DD1 the bleeding was heavier and went on for a week. Never bright red bleeding but it went from pink to brownish discharge.
I really feel for you both as I know exactly how scary and worried you both probably feel. It is very hard to hear that only time will tell whether or not the bleeding goes away or whether it is the sign or a start of miscarriage. Please take heart that a miscarriage is not inevitable and try to find anything to do that will fill your time and provide a distraction. I was given early scans with both of mine in a special early pregnancy clinic. Hopefully your area will have similar facilities and be able to support you through this. I found the trained nurses and radiographers there just brilliant and very very understanding (hard to understand anything I said at that time as I blubbed my way through all the early scans).

I had a MC at 6 weeks before, but it was just 2 days of cramping and heavy bleeding - then all over.

Then I had a healthy pregnancy, with no bleeding, and DD is now 2.

Then in July, I had a MC at 17 weeks. It was so, so, heartbreaking. Hence I am feeling so totally desperate and paranoid this time.

I really hope this bleeding turns out NOT to be a MC, obviously.

A positive story to cheer you up - am 8 weeks and had a scan today as I bled at 6 weeks, proper blood, no cramps, then had brown discharge for 10 days after. Baby is fine for now! I really hope this is the same for you both - sonographer told me this is incredibly common and often they dont know why it happens, but bleeding isnt always a bad sign. Hugs and fingers very tightly crossed for you two!

I bled at 11 weeks for about a day. Heavy and a browny redish colour. DS is 2 next month.

Good luck to you both - it is awful when bleeding happens. It frightens the life out of you, although it is very common.

HI all, I am also bleeding (tmi - bright red and also about half teaspoon of real gloopy treacle like blood). I am 5+2 today. Lost hope really I suppose.

Don;t know whether to phone epu, leave it til next week - or what. Also have a funeral to go to tomorrow. What a week

So sorry ILBAM, sounds like you are having an awful time.

Best to book a scan if you are at all unsure. When I had my first MC I just knew there was no hope. Lots of heavy bleeding, with cramping, continuous for a couple of days.

This time the bleeding has been sporadic, although quite heavy at times. No cramps though. I'm booked in for a scan tomorrow morning, 9.00.

My very best wishes to you ILBAM, and to anyone else reading this that is going through the uncertainty of bleeding during pregnancy. It's such a horrible feeling, to go from being on top of the world to feeling sick with worry.

Best of luck to all of you experiencing bleeding in early pregnancy, it's terribly scary. A positive story from me though. I had pain on one side at about 6 weeks while I was on holiday last year. I had a scan (to rule out ectopic) and there was no heartbeat so was told the baby wasn't developing normally and I would either have a miscarriage or have to have a D&C. A few days later I started bleeding heavily for about a date. When I got home a week later (after a pretty miserable holiday) I went to the EPU to 'confirm' what I thought was my second miscarriage within two months. Instead there was a 7-week-old foetus with a little heartbeat. Turns out the pregnancy dating was wrong (hence no heartbeat at first scan) and I was told the bleeding 'just happens' sometimes. My daughter is now a happy, healthy 9-month-old.

My advice would be to get a scan as soon as you can to find out one way or another. Best wishes to you all.

I've got a positive outcome of my own too! Had the scan this morning, and there is a healthy little 7-week embryo, with a strong heartbeat! I couldn't believe it when they told me, I just burst into tears! I was so convinced I was having another MC.

They even let me listen to the heartbeat. It was amazing. Apparently they could see the source of the bleeding - a 1cm patch on my womb, which appears to be healing, because I am no longer bleeding. The dr said this could be caused by the placenta establishing itself. Told me to take it easy for a few days, but no reason to think it will cause any more problems.

Still a long way to go, I know. After my previous MC (at 17 wks) I'm not taking anything for granted, but I do feel such relief, for now. One step at a time.

Lovely to see your positive outcome LP especially with your previous experiences. I am still bleeding (fairly heavy period-type bright red blood) now on day 3. I am accepting that this pregnancy is over I think but just wondering, is it usual to have a scan? Can you just ask for one to confirm?

If not how long before I should get a negative hp test?

I think with a very early MC, it is not usual to have a scan. someone else may correct me, but from my own experience, my first MC was at 6 weeks, and I jut bled heavily for a few days, lots of cramps, and I knew it was gone. I didn't see a doctor or anything. I got a period about 6 weeks later.

Got pregnant 5 months later and all was well.

As for the negative hp test, it can take a few weeks I believe. However, with an early MC, normally not that long.
