TW ** Miscarriage at 7 weeks is this normal?

Looking for some advice please
Late for my period, pregnancy test revealed I was pregnant.
However, after two weeks, I miscarried at 7 weeks. Bleeding was extremely heavy, to put it bluntly, by the time I had changed my pad upstairs and made my way downstairs, I had bled through a heavy pad, my trousers and the carpet.
Bleeding remained quite heavy for about a week and a half. The pain was in the lower right hand side of my stomach, no matter where I pushed on my stomach the pain would always be the right side. My mother was convinced something wasn't right so asked me to visit the drs. They felt my stomach and took my BP and said all looks fine.
Bleeding had calmed down when I hit 2 weeks after miscarriage, it was going more pinky coloured so I thought all was going well. Today I have woken up, bleeding heavier and have soaked through again. Is this normal? My mom is quite concerned and is convinced something isn't right. I'm sure it's all fine and I'm reluctant to go back to the GP for them to refer me to a hospital for a scan; last time I went for a scan at the hospital for the same thing, I was there for 8 hours and they refused to scan me despite having the GP letter.
I did do a pregnancy test about 1 week and 5 days after miscarriage, pregnancy test had a darker line than my 1st pregnancy test but this is probably down to my hormones.
Sorry for rambling, just looking for reassurance this is normal!

I'm so sorry this has all happened to you. But yes in a nutshell you need to go back. The pregnancy test should be negative or very light by now not darker. Did you go to EPU before? You need to call them, explain what you have here and be seen for a scan.

You may have no even miscarried. Sometimes you can have a lot of bleeding but still be pregnant.

Wishing you all the best Flowers

Oh gosh did the fetus come out? I had very heavy bleeding, it was a blood clot. I was told blood clot would either kill baby and come out or just the clot come out. I was convinced I’d lost baby. Bleed a lot (the clot coming out). Finally went to doctor and I still had baby in me. My baby just turned 17. Was a stressful pregnancy. Not going to lie. I hope you find out more info soon. It’s not always so cut and dry.

Appletree213 · 15/04/2023 18:25

Thanks so much @Hopefulbride18 - it's been a whirlwind for sure. I thought that would be the case if i'm honest.
I haven't been to EPU. The last time I went was for a suspected miscarriage and referred by the GP but they refused a scan so conscious it'll be the same again and really don't want to wait 8 hours again to be turned away.
I did think I may still be pregnant, but all pregnancy symptoms have disappeared and the bleeding was accompanied with large clots. I don't feel pregnant anymore.
I'll give GP a call on Monday and advise them it's not getting better.
Thanks for replying x

@Redrosesandsunsets I'm unsure, this is what panics me. On the day, I had an urge to push, a blood clot came out but there was no sac, that I could see, despite me inspecting it as I really didn't want to flush if it was the baby.
Then about a week after, I had another urge to push with pain again, and it looked like the placenta.
I can't say I've seen the baby though x

Sorry this is happening to you. You need to go to EPU, I’m sure with those symptoms they would scan you. If the miscarriage was complete the pregnancy test should be negative by now so I would be worried you have retained products (or potentially with one sided pain an ectopic).

OneMoreCookieMonster · 15/04/2023 18:29

Please go to the epu and do a pregnancy test. This sounds like a potential ectopic pregnancy.

Appletree213 · 15/04/2023 19:00

Thanks both @Patchworksack @OneMoreCookieMonster. Can I self refer to the EPU? The doctor said she would arrange a scan if pain/bleeding isn't gone by the week after. Now hit the week after and I'm unsure if the pain has gone but bleeding hasn't stopped, although wasn't sure if dr would only refer if it was heavy bleeding which I haven't got but it has got heavier when I compare the last three days.
If ectopic, would I be in excruciating pain? I've read Mumsnet posts on ectopic and many were saying they had awful pain where they couldn't move. Mine isn't awful, I'd just say it's more uncomfortable. I have stupidly since gone to the gym whilst in pain so I'm now unsure what's pain from miscarriage vs what's pain from the gym.
Would exercising cause heavier bleeding?

With blood clots they just finish when they finish. It’s hard to tell when that is. Bleeding can happen for some time. They need to scan you and see if anything is still in there. It is a big mystery without a scan. No idea how you would get a scan. Sorry. It is all very traumatizing too. Big hugs x

OneMoreCookieMonster · 15/04/2023 21:08

I've had ectopics and didn't have the usual pain. Mine felt like a deep ache in my right hip and like I was having intermittent severe to moderate ovulation pain. The bleeding lasted for 4 wks ish on and off, changing between heavy and lighter and even going a peachy colour at one point. The bleeding itself was not like a typical period or mc bleed. It was syrupy and thinner.

I ended up with a ruptured tube because it was left so late.

Please have a look on the NHS website it has some decent info and Tommy's is also excellent with FAQs section on it.

It may be just a mc or there may be complications or something else. I am not a medical professional and just an Internet random but something in what you posted made me think...

It's always best to get these things checked out. Please ask for a scam and for bloods to be run.

Hope all turns out well and you aren't in too much discomfort c

OneMoreCookieMonster · 15/04/2023 21:11

Forgot to say, most epus need a GPS referral or referral from a&e.

If you are in severe one sided pain, have shoulder tip pain, filling a pad or more an hour or start having diarrhea, please either call 111 or go to a&e

Appletree213 · 15/04/2023 21:31

@Redrosesandsunsets thank you. I'll ask for a scan and see what's going on. Thank you so much for your help x

Appletree213 · 15/04/2023 21:34

@OneMoreCookieMonster yeah I can totally relate to the ache in the hip, it's definitely intermittent although my stomach is so tender right now but again I'm not sure if that's from the gym and the peachy blood is for sure something I had when the bleeding appeared like it was tapering off.
I'll call the GP on Monday as she did mention to call back if no joy and she will refer for a scan so it's probably worthwhile me doing instead of burying my head in the sand.
I'll have a look at those sites too, thank you x

@OneMoreCookieMonster forgot to say, sorry to hear about your ectopic. Hope all is well now and sending hugs x

OP posts:
OneMoreCookieMonster · 16/04/2023 07:30

No problem at all. Hope all goes well with you. Sorry that you and your partner are having to take this journey.

The tenderness can be worrying symptom. But, as you as it may be DOMS. Please take care of yourself and reach out for medical support if needed. X

Appletree213 · 16/04/2023 12:12

Thanks @OneMoreCookieMonster. I called the hospital today and they advised EPU is closed but call again tomorrow and get seen.
Bleeding heavier again and leaking through, stomach tenderness has gone so I'm sure it was DOMS but the stomach pain has returned (not horrific just uncomfortable. ) I'm thinking the pain never went but was probably masked by the gym pain.
Hopefully I'll have some more news tomorrow x

Hopefulbride18 · 16/04/2023 17:09

It's an absolute joke that EPU is closed at weekends it really is, it's the same in my area.

Really hope you can get a scan tomorrow and they can give you some answers.

Will be thinking of you Flowers

Appletree213 · 17/04/2023 14:54

Thanks @Hopefulbride18. Today has turned into a disaster, called EPU so I wasn't turning up announced and they couldn't do anything. They confirmed they wouldn't do a scan unless referred by GP and asked me to do another preg test.
Preg test still shows positive, GP called and I confirmed still bleeding, still having intermittent pain although it feels like I'm having the pain in different places as opposed to just the lower stomach pain. I also mentioned I was having shoulder pain, again intermittent, and not excruciating, it feels better providing I take almost like shallow breaths and I'm not breathing in too heavy. He wasn't concerned too much about the pains, but the positive pregnancy test alarmed him so he's referred me off to a scan at 11:30 tomorrow so fingers crossed x

You poor thing, thank goodness it sounds like you're finally 'booked in' for tomorrow. I really hope they will be able to give you some answers, I have always found being in limbo and this endless waiting the worst ❤️

Hopefulbride18 · 17/04/2023 21:37

Also - really shocked they didn't seem more concerned about shoulder pain?! Anyway, you're going tomorrow so they should be able to investigate x

Hopefulbride18 · 18/04/2023 18:56

How did you get on today @Appletree213 ? X

Appletree213 · 18/04/2023 19:02

Thanks for checking in @Hopefulbride18
They were concerned about ectopic considering the symptoms - they've told me they haven't ruled it out completely but are pretty confident it's not that.
The ultrasound did show retained product, think it was 3cm, they carried out an internal but couldn't find it so I'm booked in for a d&c tomorrow.
Hcg was sitting at roughly 700 from memory, not entirely sure what that means x

OP posts:
Hopefulbride18 · 18/04/2023 20:26

@Appletree213 glad to hear that you were seen and they have booked you in for the d&c tomorrow. Fingers crossed it is just retained product and not an ectopic. Hope it all goes quickly and painlessly for you and this ordeal is over ❤️

Redrosesandsunsets · 19/04/2023 17:54

Glad to hear you got seen. How are you doing? Take care of yourself.

EstieGreenwood · 19/04/2023 18:05

So so so sorry you’re going through this. It’s so frustrating to wait and wait in A&E for ages only to be told they’re not giving you a scan or not doing x, y, or z, while you’re bleeding and in pain. Why are they so f*cking stingy with those scans ffs! Sorry - obviously this is a sore spot for me.

I hope your d&c goes smoothly and that you’re out of physical pain soon. I’m there with you and all who are suffering this horrible situation.

Appletree213 · 20/04/2023 19:52

@Hopefulbride18 thanks so much. Looks like everything went well and quickly packed my bags home and returned last afternoon which I was thankful for

@Redrosesandsunsets thank you! I felt quite good yesterday, a lot better than expected, however today I'm not quite sure how I'm feeling. Feeling quite short of breath and very tingly/faint. I did take the patient information quite literally though when it mentioned resuming normal activities after a day. DH has sent me to bed, and whilst tingly feeling has gone. Short of breath is still making itself known so who knows!
