Ovulation after pregnancy loss

Hi everyone
I sadly had a mc which started with bleeding on 1st Jan and I believe I miscarried completely on 2nd Jan this year. It was confirmed as a complete miscarriage on 4th Jan with a scan. I bled until Saturday 7th and I have been taking hcg tests everyday which are getting lighter - as of today, they are basically squinters. I was 6weeks 2 days and things happened quickly and with little pain.
I'd like to try again ASAP as my husband works away and it's difficult to plan these things.
I have a very regular cycle - usually 27 or 28 days but I've not really tracked ovulation before so not sure when I typically ovulate - I guess probably around day 13 but not sure.
I am wondering if people can share when they ovulated after their mc? I've become confused by reading online as some have said 2 weeks later but was this 2 weeks after bleeding started or 2 weeks after bleeding stopped?
Or am I unlikely to ovulate until 2 weeks after HCG has fully gone? I am getting myself confused. I can only see ranges online but not sure if the range is smaller for your next period if the mc was early.
I'm going to track BBT and use OPKs too but I'm just interested in others experiences. Could this happen as early as this Sunday as this was 2 weeks from the start of the MC?
Also, I already have one ds who is 18 months and I'm still breastfeeding. No idea if this has any bearing on things but it was a straight forward pregnancy and birth with him.
Thanks so much in advance!

@LMM91x congratulations! Amazing news!

@Hopefulhoney6 I got a static smile yesterday evening and positive LH tests ( last night and this am) to back it up! I’ve started reading that book too but not finished it, I need to get back to it. I’m reading “ It starts with the egg” as well and I find that very interesting.
We DTD on the last day of the flashy smiley and first of the static 😅. If you were to follow the “ sperm meets the egg” method you should do it three days in a row when you get a positive LH test, skip one day and then once more. I’ve not got the energy to do that.. Will do it tomorrow though for luck.

Hopefully you’ll get your static smiley soon! I got super excited to see it!

OhGodIAmTired · 14/02/2023 15:23

I've been lurking on this thread but just wanted to say congrats to @LMM91x and am sending everyone positive vibes,

I had a second scan today - am nearly 8 weeks with a heartbeat. I was so nervous, was sure it was going to be bad news.

I can't quite celebrate though, am just convinced it will all go wrong again even though I know this is all going well and much better than my previous losses.

LMM91x · 14/02/2023 16:01

@Travellingislife thanks lovely … you next!💕

@OhGodIAmTired - your username is literally my life this week…. 🤣.
oh bless you - it’s just awful how loss takes this joy from you and it’s just a constant worry…. But worry also doesn’t even cut it cos I feel sick about it all and this progressing or not progressing :(. The thought of going for a scan also makes me want to heave!! So glad you saw a heartbeat though xxxxx 8 weeks I’m sure the odds go right now right?? at what gestation was your previous loss? Are you past that ? I wonder if that will make me feel better … getting past that but I’m sure it won’t xxxxx

AnotherEllie · 14/02/2023 18:41

@Travellingislife yay! That's exciting! I remember being so excited to see the static. Must have felt even better after the last cycle being confusing too! Sending luck 💞

@OhGodIAmTired I'm so pleased your scan was fine! But understand your worry. Hopefully as you get further along, you will feel less worried.

@LMM91x do you think you are around 4- 4.5weeks? I wouldn't worry as that's still early for symptoms. Mine have just ramped up now around 5.5/ 6 weeks, which I believe is normal. Forgotten how rough the nausea can be though!

Hopefully we will all have our rainbows soon! 🌈

LMM91x · 14/02/2023 18:45

@AnotherEllie yeahh around 4 weeks :) I know and my lines got stronger today so something must be going in the right direction at least for now xxxxx how are you?

AnotherEllie · 14/02/2023 19:02

@LMM91x I am okay thanks! Was really sick yesterday and nearly didnt work. I'm nervous to tell anyone at work because of what happened before but think I will have to if I feel like that again as I really didn't feel up to it! Bit tricky as I just started a new role but my workplace is generally known for being family friendly so not too worried. Also can work remotely most of the time which helps so much!

Had awful nausea for a long time with my DS but wasn't working so hoping that it won't get as bad this time...!

My husband is away too so hoping to just sleep all day on Saturday when he is back and catch up! Have been sleeping for an hour after the nursery run just to try and catch up but never feel like I'm getting enough sleep! Think that's normal with pregnancy and a toddler though!

That sounds encouraging that you are getting a strong line. It's really hard to not feel paranoid but hopefully it will all work out! I know statistically it is still very likely to have a successful pregnancy after loss but its hard not to feel worried sometimes.

@Travellingislife my 6th flashing smiley this morning!! Feeling very low suddenly. Last month (when I’m pretty sure I ovulated but just didn’t have a period) I had 5 flashings and that was the first time using them…. So hopefully tomorrow it’ll be solid 🙏🏽 still getting ewcm so fingers crossed my body actually will ovulate and it’s not going to be flashing forever!

Travellingislife · 16/02/2023 08:25

@Hopefulhoney6
I would be so impatient! Have you tried using basic opk’s? I’ve seen quite a few women who only got flashing smiles and got pregnant those cycles though.
I think I’ve ovulated but I’m starting to have negative thoughts. Maybe I didn’t ovulate?! You can have ewcm and positive ovulation tests but not ovulate so now I’m worrying about that.. I can’t trust my bbt as I’m waking up 4:30 one day and 6:30 the next. I’ll DTD every other day for another few days just in case.

Hopefulhoney6 · 16/02/2023 11:41

@Travellingislife I threw away my basic OPKs (never saw a really strong dark line but didn’t use consistently), but have just ordered some more….!! Got a solid smiley last month. But like you will just DTD every other day I think.

I’m sure you did ovulate, but I know it can look like you have with all the tests and BBT is the only real indicator. I’ve always found that even if I test at different times in the morning my BBT is definitely higher after I’ve ovulated. Last month I had a perfect BBT graph and this month it’s all over the place!! But I’ve been ill/ on a ski trip etc.

hope for the solid smiley tomorrow!

AnotherEllie · 16/02/2023 14:08

@Travellingislife I'm sure you have ovulated but definitely think it's natural to second guess everything after loss!

BBT is tricky but maybe worth seeing how it measures over the next few days? I guess if its generally up, thats encouraging. (But also try not to let it worry you as its hard to be consistent).

Good luck with the 2 week wait - I know it feels like forever. I only waited 8 or 9 days in the end and I was counting down the hours!

@Hopefulhoney6 fingers crossed for you! I did CB tests and cheap OPKs too. My peak fertile day on CB was backed up by an obvious dark line on the OPKs, which was helpful as I didn't really have any clue where I was in my cycle (never tracked much). I also read to test between midday and 6pm so I did that with the OPKs on top of the morning as instructed by the CB tests.

I've learnt so much after this! Hopefully will be able to impart some wisdom onto friends at some point!

Could I possibly ask how long people were having a positive hcg test after the "main" day of the MC? I will be 2 weeks on Sunday, but was still bleeding red until the following wednesday. I'm just wondering whether I should be worried they are still showing a faint line or if I'm over thinking it. Thank you x

Travellingislife · 16/02/2023 19:16

@Hopefulhoney6 ah sorry yes you did say you got a static smiley last month! Fingers crossed you get one tomorrow.
I should be able to see a higher temperature trend now if I ovulated, you’re right!
Very envious if your ski trip by the way 😃

@AnotherEllie I’ll definitely be counting down the hours! I’ll try not to be too hopeful but it’s difficult not to. I hope the statistics are on my side this cycle 🙏🏼

@Paperboats I tested for the first time at day 11 and it was negative. It seems to differ for everyone.

Travellingislife · 16/02/2023 19:24

@Paperboats sorry my LH test was negative at day 11 and my HCG on day 13

Paperboats · 16/02/2023 19:43

@Travellingislife thank you :) my LH is negative so hopefully the hcg will be soon and things are going back to normal

Hopefulhoney6 · 16/02/2023 20:27

@Paperboats I still had a positive FRER at 3 weeks, so 21 days. Didn’t test after that as it was faint. So it took a while to get out of my system. I think I’ve seen you on other threads but I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It definitely takes a little time x

OhGodIAmTired · 16/02/2023 20:35

I think I got my positive HCG test exactly 5 weeks to the day after the bleeding started from the miscarriage (this was just spotting, the full bleed came the next day). Perhaps 4 weeks after the bleeding ended.

I'm now 8 weeks and we saw a heartbeat this week but for the last 48hrs I've felt incredibly un-pregnant. The nausea/exhaustion which was pretty intense before has now all but gone away. It's there a little, but more like background noise.

Three nights ago I was a nauseous zombie lying on the sofa, going to sleep at 9pm. Now I'm just a little tired and only feel the nausea if I stand up. I was having to eat every 2hrs to keep it at bay, but I've not had any food in over 4hrs now and I'm fine.

I'm trying to not get ahead of myself - is this all in my head? is this just normal? do you have some days of pregnancy where it's not that bad, and it suddenly comes back? my only full term pregnancy was 4 years ago, and I honestly can't remember.

Paperboats · 16/02/2023 20:36

@Hopefulhoney6 thank you xx

Travellingislife · 17/02/2023 07:27

@AnotherEllie @Hopefulhoney6 both my apps confirmed ovulation on day 15. I use Fertility Friend and Natural Cycles, I actually prefer FF even though I’m just using the basic version, and think I’ll cancel my subscription on NC.
We didn’t DTD on ovulation day which I’m a bit bummed about but oh well. I’m already symptom spotting and second guessing everything. When I got pregnant the last time I had symptoms from about ovulation, cramping, feeling sick and lots of CM.. Now I have nothing.. My cervix is lower and harder too and it should in theory stay high and soft if you conceived..
The chance of me getting pregnant each cycle is slim because of my age (41) but I just keep thinking why wouldn’t it happen?! I’m fit, healthy and we timed ovulation but I’ll try and be realistic and will try not be too upset if I get my period.. I think my luteal phase will be around 10 days so I’ll resist testing until a few days past that.

@OhGodIAmTired I understand your worry! It doesn’t necessarily mean anything negative that your symptoms have subsided though, they come and go. Maybe phone EPU and ask for a scan if it would make you worry less? Or speak to a midwife who might be able to reassure you. It is such a worrisome time 😞

AnotherEllie · 17/02/2023 09:03

@Travellingislife I liked FF too - I found it easiest to use.
I wouldn't worry about not DTD on ovulation day - the couple of days before are very fertile too!
Hopefully it has worked this time and try not to worry. I saw a slight dip in my BBT a couple of days after ovulation and thought it hadn't worked but I think I just measured incorrectly. Also you have fallen pregnant before so you have every chance of it happening again! But understand preparing yourself in case it doesn't work out as it's such an emotional roller coaster!

@Paperboats I bled for around 5 or 6 days after the loss and then had a negative HCG about one week after that stopped. From what I've read, it can vary a lot. I was advised to call the EPU if still positive after 3 weeks. I ovulated one week later than normal, which makes sense.

@OhGodIAmTired totally understand your concern. I definitely have worse days and ok days. I was throwing up non stop on Monday but today I just feel a bit off and not very hungry. I remember with my DS, it occasionally would flare up again too - think I had random bouts of being sick at 16 and 20 weeks but just for a day or two. Do you think you think there is a point in the pregnancy where you may feel less anxious? I think for me I will feel better after the 12 week scan.

Hey everyone!
The last time I was pregnant I got a lot of watery cm after ovulation, did that happen to any of you? @AnotherEllie @OhGodIAmTired @LMM91x I’m 4dpo and I’ve not got any symptoms, well I thought I felt some light cramping yesterday but it was probably gas 😅 Now I’ve got no cm and if I was pregnant I probably should have some?!
I feel very unpregnant, I know it’s so early but I feel I should be able to notice something..

@Hopefulhoney6 did you get your static?

LMM91x · 18/02/2023 17:28

@Travellingislife hey!’ Its vvvvv early, I had absolutely nothing at 4dpo but did get ‘wetter’ (ew sorry) as the days went on.
i still feel very unpregnant even now so I wouldn’t worry!!! If it wasn’t for positive tests and a bit of nausea in the morning I would just think my period is late!

Travellingislife · 19/02/2023 09:33

@LMM91x thank you! God I know, I’m usually a rational person but this TTC journey is driving me bonkers.
I just need to wait and see, symptoms or not, it won’t change anything..

AnotherEllie · 19/02/2023 12:35

@Travellingislife Yeah, I can't really remember either at that point - but don't think I noticed anything until 7 or 8dpo in terms of how I felt. I thought my period was coming about 5dpo as I didn't feel anything much.

Definitely more wet CM now though!

Fingers crossed for your BFP soon!

OhGodIAmTired · 19/02/2023 12:51

@Travellingislife I'm sorry I never tracked my CM once ovulation was done - some months I have been sure I conceived and then got my period a day early lol. The four times I've been pregnant I didn't have any early warning signs and tested after period was late (the early testing drove me nuts).

@AnotherEllie I had such a strange week. On friday I had hardly any pregnancy symptoms at all - boobs felt flat and I spent the day crying, convinced the bleeding was about to start again.

But then on saturday (and today) I've been SO NAUSEOUS with sore boobs and exhaustion again. Going to try and resist another scan unless symptoms disappear again. Just 3 weeks until the next official scan, going to try and focus on that.

Wish I wasn't so neurotic!

AnotherEllie · 19/02/2023 12:59

@OhGodIAmTired I think that's totally normally to react that way after loss.

Whenever my symptoms ease, I feel worried and wonder what is happening. I find they do come in waves though.

Today I'm feeling a bit less sick. Then it makes me wonder if I was ill earlier in the week as I was really sick (and woke up at 4am to be sick, which I never did with my DS) - it's so confusing!

Today is the day when I would had the loss in terms of weeks and days so I'm feeling a bit anxious but definitely feeling more pregnant this time. I think I will feel more confident in 2 weeks time. Still debating an early scan but not sure! Did you go private for yours?

I have my booking appointment Wednesday so can let you know how that is.
