Ovulation after pregnancy loss

Hi everyone
I sadly had a mc which started with bleeding on 1st Jan and I believe I miscarried completely on 2nd Jan this year. It was confirmed as a complete miscarriage on 4th Jan with a scan. I bled until Saturday 7th and I have been taking hcg tests everyday which are getting lighter - as of today, they are basically squinters. I was 6weeks 2 days and things happened quickly and with little pain.
I'd like to try again ASAP as my husband works away and it's difficult to plan these things.
I have a very regular cycle - usually 27 or 28 days but I've not really tracked ovulation before so not sure when I typically ovulate - I guess probably around day 13 but not sure.
I am wondering if people can share when they ovulated after their mc? I've become confused by reading online as some have said 2 weeks later but was this 2 weeks after bleeding started or 2 weeks after bleeding stopped?
Or am I unlikely to ovulate until 2 weeks after HCG has fully gone? I am getting myself confused. I can only see ranges online but not sure if the range is smaller for your next period if the mc was early.
I'm going to track BBT and use OPKs too but I'm just interested in others experiences. Could this happen as early as this Sunday as this was 2 weeks from the start of the MC?
Also, I already have one ds who is 18 months and I'm still breastfeeding. No idea if this has any bearing on things but it was a straight forward pregnancy and birth with him.
Thanks so much in advance!

@Hopefulhoney6I take vit b complex and high strength vit c and d, as well as Co q10 and DHEA for egg quality.

I think I’ve always had a 10 day luteal phase and I have a son and one mc so it shouldn’t be a problem, but I worry when I read that it should be 11 days or more.. It’ll be interesting to see if acupuncture can help to lengthen it!

@AnotherElliea strong line would definitely encourage me too!
I told my closest friends and family right away when I was pregnant and when I lost it. I felt that it really helped as I wanted to talk about it. I didn’t with my first thought, I kept that a secret until about 14 weeks for my closest friends and family and to about week 25 for others. I felt super protective and didn’t want anyone to know, it was a strange feeling. Not sure what I would do if I get pregnant again.

I’m on day 7 now and will start with the opk’s tomorrow as I’ve got no idea how my cycle will behave this time!

@LMM91x fingers crossed for you!

10 days is still classed as normal so try not to worry 😊

When I googled got this

Ovulation after pregnancy loss

I just wanted to jump in to say its been really nice reading the positive experiences on this thread after such a sad time. I miscarried naturally yesterday (so unbelievably painful!) And I had no idea really what to expect after with ovulation and periods so it has been such a support to understand what can happen next. Best of luck to everyone going forward, I hope for only good news for you all x

LMM91x · 07/02/2023 06:43

Oh @Paperboats I’m so sorry for your loss. The pain is awful 😢 take care and be kind to yourself ❤️. Life can be so so cruel xxx

OhGodIAmTired · 07/02/2023 08:58

today I'm 7 weeks pregnant and this time next week I'll hopefully be in a waiting room, about to get another scan (the one at 6 weeks was too early to confirm viability apparently)

But I'm now beyond anxious. Woke up today with boobs not sore at all and I keep thinking I should be more nauseous than I am. Had some cramps. Not sure if it's all normal or not. It's been 4 years since I had a successful pregnancy and I can't remember anything.

In December when I miscarried I also had a drop in symptoms. I honestly don't know if it's my brain playing tricks on me or if it's really happening again.

When I went in to EPU for the 6 week scan they were just so rushed and dismissive about progesterone or any other testing. It's like, we'll wait for you to lose another pregnancy and then deal with it. But I honestly don't think I could go through a third loss. I feel really done. The TTC and first trimester send me into such a dark place mentally I have no coping skills whatsover.

AnotherEllie · 07/02/2023 12:23

@Paperboats I am so sorry. It is really the most awful thing.

I found it helpful to know what might happen following the loss so I'm glad this chat has helped in some small way. I've found it so helpful too. I tried to take each day as it came. I found the prospect of waiting weeks for things to happen felt like forever at the time though.

@OhGodIAmTired I relate to how you feel. I'm currently around 5 weeks and every time I don't have any symptoms, I'm nervous. I was pregnant 2 years ago and can't remember how it was at all - I took no notice really of when things were happening. I'm feeling quite nauseous but even when that settles, I get a bit worried.

Hopefully your mind is playing tricks on you and all is well! Hopefully the scan will also provide some reassurance.

Really understand how hard the cycle of TTC and waiting is, along with the now added anxiousness following loss. Keeping everything crossed for you and your rainbow baby!

@LMM91x thank you x

@AnotherEllie it's honestly been so useful. I got flustered and forgot to ask many things when speaking to the doctor/nurse.

At the moment I'm still bleeding/cramping, in the morning the cramps stop so I feel like it might be calming down but comes back by the afternoon. Its not bad though, just like a normal period for me. I'm avoiding any painkillers unless it gets bad because taking them too early left me with just paracetamol for the worst pain on Sunday and it was truly terrible timing!

@OhGodIAmTired really hope everything is OK for you

Travellingislife · 11/02/2023 07:28

Sorry to hear about your loss @Paperboats It is such an awful experience. I’m glad you found this thread useful and maybe it’s given you some hope, I know it did to me.

@OhGodIAmTired I understand how anxious you’ll be, it’ll be hard not to worry when you’ve experienced losses. A drop in symptoms doesn’t have to mean anything but of course you would worry. Hopefully you’ll get some reassurance next week.

I got my first flashing smiley face on Clearblue’s today! I’m on CD 12 and I’m not really sure when I’ll ovulate this month, IF at all, I feel quite negative about it at the moment. I’m hoping it’ll be in the next few days though, but I’ve read that people have had only flashy smileys and no static ones..

AnotherEllie · 11/02/2023 10:04

@Travellingislife really hope you get your static smiley soon! I only had one day of flashing before static just to warn you so you might want to plan accordingly😆Have you been tracking anything else? Any other signs that might give you a clue? Really keeping my fingers crossed for you!

@Paperboats I hope things are settling for you now. I found the first week the absolute hardest but then it gradually got easier 💖

Hopefulhoney6 · 11/02/2023 10:40

@Paperboats so so sorry to hear that. These threads are so helpful ❤️

@Travellingislife I got a flashing smiley today too! After last month where I got BBT/ peak smiley/ EWCM at CD18 and then didn’t have a period…. I thought I would start doing OPKs at the same time as I would have ovulated if I did have a period. And it seems I am gearing up to ovulate again. So I think I did ovulate last month but just weirdly didn’t bleed. Hoping to start DTD every other day from today and then see this month…. I’m nervous about Ashermans syndrome after D&C but going to try this cycle and see if I get AF (or a BFP!!). Good luck xx

Travellingislife · 11/02/2023 15:03

@AnotherEllie what don’t I track haha! My temperature has been a bit erratic but hopefully I should get a steady rise if I ovulate. I hope I’ll get a static smiley very soon. My CM is getting wetter and more egg white like so that’s encouraging as well.
How are you feeling?

@Hopefulhoney6 ooohhh exciting! I hope we get our static smileys soon! I’ll dtd every other day too until I get a static one and then daily ( if we have the energy lol)
That’s strange you didn’t bleed if you ovulated but maybe it’s stress after the loss? Did you do a pregnancy test?

Hopefulhoney6 · 11/02/2023 16:22

@Travellingislife I don’t think we have the energy for every day 😂 I also thought that after solid smiley there was limited time to conceive so once would be fine?!
I last did an HPT a week ago and wasn’t pregnant. I had very light periods before…. But now I’m nervous about Asherman’s syndrome which is where scarring from the ERPC means you don’t build up a lining and have a period (but still ovulate etc!). So I’m going to see how this month goes and if not, go to the GP.

AnotherEllie · 11/02/2023 16:50

@Travellingislife that sounds encouraging and hopefully it will be just a few days before you get your static smiley! I had only a small amount of ewcm a few days before solid smiley but tbh I don't know what is normal for me as I never really took much notice! Think I mentioned previously mine tends to be more wet in nature which was the case though. Please keep us posted when you do!

I am feeling OK - nauseous and sore boobs but I am grateful for symptoms. I think next week will be a bit nerve-wracking as I will be 6 weeks ish and that's when I had the loss. I think I will feel better with each week that passes from 7 weeks though. I booked my booking appointment too so will see how that goes.

@Hopefulhoney6 I had the static smiley on Wednesday and Thursday and they say the most fertile period is the 2 days starting from the static smiley I believe. This makes sense for me as my BBT suggested I ovulated on Friday. I do think it's possible I ovulated on the Thursday though as I got a BFP on 8dpo otherwise - which felt early. Tbh, I wasn't very consistent with my BBT measurements either. I don't think it's an exact science but did help me get some idea of what was going on.

@Hopefulhoney6 hopefully your cycle will settle soon. Its hard when you don't know what to expect! But sending lots of luck!!

Travellingislife · 12/02/2023 06:57

@Hopefulhoney6 It sounds like a good plan seeing how this month goes and if you don’t get your period or aren’t pregnant then seek help. Maybe your GP can refer you for a scan. I’ve had another flashy smiley today, I’m sooo impatient! I normally ovulate around day 16-18 though so I may have a few more days of flashy smileys. I think every other day is plenty and once you get the static one once is probably enough, I’ll feel better if we do it every day though haha!

@AnotherEllie I’m sure it’ll be ok but I understand your worry, I would be the same. When I worry I always think that the statistics are on our side and it makes me feel a bit better.
Another flashy smiley today, I usually see large change in CM on ovulation day, it tends to be very EW like and I’ve not seen it yet! I’ll keep you posted 😊

LMM91x · 12/02/2023 07:01

Hi ladies - hope you’re all good. So i’m around 13dpo today , I would normally only get to 11/12 before AF arrives but so sign of her yet. Have resisted testing somehow… (had OH hide the box🤣) but other than feeling a bit sick and crampy I’ve not got any sore boobs or anything which is making me worry that if it is a bfp tomorrow it’s not a good sign :( I know its all different etc but my boobs do not hurt even a little bit…. Which is odd for me as they are normally v sensitive to hormonal changes. 🤞 for bfp anyway and hopefully sticky healthy bean but I’m worried already 😔 xx

AnotherEllie · 12/02/2023 14:31

@Travellingislife fingers crossed its any day now! I remember counting down for the next test to see if the static smiley appeared! Then it was exciting when it did!

@LMM91x that must be so confusing! It seems that most of our cycles are not behaving quite like normal and that makes it harder to know what is happening. Are you planning to test tomorrow? It definitely is still poasible and it is still early days for symptoms! And every pregnancy is different so keeping fingers crossed for you!

LMM91x · 12/02/2023 17:36

@AnotherEllie YEP going to test tomorrow 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Hopefulhoney6 · 12/02/2023 21:07

@Travellingislife think we will be getting our solid smileys around the same time then…. I’m expecting mine Tuesday or Wednesday!

@LMM91x good luck!!!!

Travellingislife · 13/02/2023 06:29

@LMM91x fingers crossed for you!

@Hopefulhoney6 @AnotherEllie another flashy smiley today but I felt like I was ovulating yersterday, I had quite a lot of ewcm and light cramping, plus a sharp pinch in my right ovary. I’m intrigued to see when the tests will indicate that I’ll have my surge. I usually have lots of ewcm so I might just be gearing up to it now!

LMM91x · 13/02/2023 06:45

Well…. Not a symptom in sight but 🥹😭 I am speechless x

AnotherEllie · 13/02/2023 07:15

@LMM91x I'm so excited for you!! Congrats! That's a very solid line too which is hopefully a good sign😊

@Travellingislife and @Hopefulhoney6 hoping you will get your solid smileys v soon!

Hopefulhoney6 · 13/02/2023 11:06

Amazing news @LMM91x …. Congrats!!!

Flashing again for me today @Travellingislife. I’m away with work for the day tomorrow 6am-11pm so sort of hoping I don’t get a solid tomorrow as it’ll be harder to DTD. But going to DTD this evening!

Hopefulhoney6 · 13/02/2023 11:16

And @LMM91x hope you aren’t feeling too anxious…. I imagine it’s hard so soon after the loss but also amazing news ❤️

@Travellingislife Ive also got EWCM today. Thick and slippery (but cloudy not clear like it can be) so that’s a good sign too I think.

Promised myself I would go on mumsnet less this week as I’m getting a bit obsessive and it’s distracting at work too. And here I am…. But this group is good as there’s not too many people on it!

LMM91x · 13/02/2023 11:30

@Hopefulhoney6 I’m actually in complete ignorant bliss right now. It doesn’t feel real at all and still waiting for my AF gor some reason….. just need to try and keep level and see how the next couple of weeks go xx

Hopefulhoney6 · 14/02/2023 09:05

@LMM91x Glad to hear it.

@Travellingislife another flashing for me this morning!

I’ve re-read my Impatient Womens Guide to Getting Pregnant book and she says ideally DTD last day of flashing and first day of solid/peak. The book says Statistically miscarriage is less likely apparently if the sperm is from the day before you ovulate rather than the day you ovulate (something to do with it being stronger I think!!).
