Ovulation after pregnancy loss

Hi everyone
I sadly had a mc which started with bleeding on 1st Jan and I believe I miscarried completely on 2nd Jan this year. It was confirmed as a complete miscarriage on 4th Jan with a scan. I bled until Saturday 7th and I have been taking hcg tests everyday which are getting lighter - as of today, they are basically squinters. I was 6weeks 2 days and things happened quickly and with little pain.
I'd like to try again ASAP as my husband works away and it's difficult to plan these things.
I have a very regular cycle - usually 27 or 28 days but I've not really tracked ovulation before so not sure when I typically ovulate - I guess probably around day 13 but not sure.
I am wondering if people can share when they ovulated after their mc? I've become confused by reading online as some have said 2 weeks later but was this 2 weeks after bleeding started or 2 weeks after bleeding stopped?
Or am I unlikely to ovulate until 2 weeks after HCG has fully gone? I am getting myself confused. I can only see ranges online but not sure if the range is smaller for your next period if the mc was early.
I'm going to track BBT and use OPKs too but I'm just interested in others experiences. Could this happen as early as this Sunday as this was 2 weeks from the start of the MC?
Also, I already have one ds who is 18 months and I'm still breastfeeding. No idea if this has any bearing on things but it was a straight forward pregnancy and birth with him.
Thanks so much in advance!

Thanks so much both!!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you @Travellingislife, you should have a really good chance in the next window if you can be around for that long, if not this one!

@LMM91x fingers crossed for you too.

It is the strangest feeling as my MC was only 4 weeks ago but I am excited and have been surprised that I haven't felt more emotional! Tbh I think I'm a bit taken aback, particularly as the test came up positive quite early.

Happy to post updates here and there but please let me know if it becomes triggering as I know it's such a sensitive topic and we all have good days and bad days! Xxx

@AnotherEllie i for one would love updates💕 If it doesn’t happen for me this cycle I know that it will xxxxx. Positive mindset right!!!

Travellingislife · 30/01/2023 06:19

@AnotherEllie I would like updates, I feel like we’re in this together haha!
How are you feeling? Has it sunk in yet?
I’m preparing myself that this will be a marathon and I’ll take one month at a time. At the moment I’m feeling positive and quite chill but we will see how long it lasts 🙂

AnotherEllie · 30/01/2023 09:33

@Travellingislife I'm feeling OK, thanks! I don't think it's sunk in yet and I think partly its because I'm much more nervous to get excited this time. Though my husband and I have been talking about what it'll be like to have an October baby and how it'll fit with our plans for the year.

I think I am going to be anxious about things throughout though! Every symptom now I'm wondering about. I think if things look good at the 12 week scan, I will feel better though - but that's 8.5 weeks away! Would you have a reassurance scan for the next pregnancy do you think? I'm toying with the idea. I had one as standard at 8 weeks when overseas - wish that was the norm here.

I'm really intrigued about why the test was positive so early! I'm pretty confident I would have ovulated around the 19th or 20th based on BBT and LH tests. I think though that it's probably a good thing if HCG is high though. And also maybe its just because I tracked things more accurately this time so could test early with more accuracy? Not feeling as nauseous today though so hoping nausea stays away for a few more weeks yet.

I'm relieved not to have to go away too - I can just focus on my new job for the next few weeks instead.

That sounds good about taking it each month at a time. I feel positive we will all get out rainbow babies in the next year or so!

@AnotherEllie yeah I understand you being a little bit cautious but at the same time I think it’s important to celebrate and be happy about it! It’s such a wonderful time in your life. I think I’d feel the same though after experience the loss.
I think it’s a good sign you had such a strong line! Mine were actually weak the last time and it ended in a loss.. I’m not sure it means anything but I would feel better if I saw a strong line.
The scan is a tricky one, I think I will have scans the next time as my consultant said there is evidence that if you have a “ managed pregnancy”, which involves a scan at 6,8 and 10 weeks, you are more likely to have a successful one. He probably have a vested interest though. I’d go at 7 weeks, for my first scan, to avoid getting worried unnecessarily if it was too early to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks.

AnotherEllie · 30/01/2023 18:16

@Travellingislife I had the same with the loss - a much later and fainter line. No idea if it was related but I do feel better this time.

Thanks for the info - that's really useful to think about the timing of the scan to not cause any unecessary stress and anxiety. I hadn't considered that and I ovulated late, my dates probably aren't going to be very accurate initially. Think I'm about week later in terms of when I ovuluated.

Definitely trying to stay positive and celebrate! I feel good this time so hopefully it will work out.

How are you feeling now? Any sense of where you are in the cycle?

OP posts:
Travellingislife · 30/01/2023 18:57

@AnotherEllie I’m even more confused now, I’ve got no clue where I am in my cycle! I wish my period could hurry up and arrive so I can get back tracking. I’ll try and resist testing for as long as I can but if I don’t get my period in about 10 days or no ovulation signs I’ll definitely test and/ or go to the doctor to see if they can help. Surely I shouldn’t have to wait more than 6 weeks for my period, then it must be something wrong.
I’ve had a headache for the last few days ( I never have headaches!) and today I’ve had some pink spotting again. I feel very hormonal, god I hope it’s not menopause haha!

AnotherEllie · 30/01/2023 19:14

@Travellingislife that must be so confusing! Headaches are definitely connected to hormonal changes for me usually so maybe something is happening or resetting - hopefully it is a pregnancy! I felt really sick on Sunday and I think that was the hormonal changes for me too as it has settled now.

I wish they taught us more at school about the hormones throughout our cycles and how they might affect us. I've learnt so much after my loss but it is stuff we should all know already ideally!

I think the average is 4-6 weeks but no idea how much is it can vary. I think it would have been around 5 weeks for Af for me if I hadn't tested positive. I also found the guidance unclear if it meant from the start or end of bleeding.

How is your mood? Its hard to gage based on mood but I did find mine improved during and after ovulation.

I very much doubt its the menopause!!

OP posts:
Travellingislife · 30/01/2023 19:58

@AnotherEllie
I was in a great mood around the time I thought I ovulated and a few days ago I felt super moody. It must be linked to my cycle!
Totally agree we should learn more about this in school, I’ve also learnt everything I know from own research!

Travellingislife · 01/02/2023 12:44

My period has arrived, day 32, so not too far off my usual cycle, and it actually feels ok! My plan is to start using Clearblue opk from about day 10, they apparently give you a 4 day heads-up before your peak day. I’m not travelling during this window so that’s such a big relief!

LMM91x · 01/02/2023 14:47

@Travellingislife oh good - glad you’re feeling ok and can start ‘fresh’ so to speak!! The clearblye opks are my favourite and I fell first month using them last time…much easier that faffing with line strength etc!!! (Though i do use those too hahaha)

good luckkkk and you can relax foe the next 10 days at least … ! Xx

2dpo for me today… I am feeling things bit way too early and I know it’s in my head🤣🤣

AnotherEllie · 01/02/2023 14:51

@Travellingislife I'm sorry that it's not pregnancy but pleased your period has arrived so you know where you are at! Hopefully that's a good sign for your body getting ready to ovulate again!

Hope you are feeling okay!

On the ClearBlue tests, I think I had flashing smiley on Tuesday then Static Smiley on Wednesday indicating peak fertility window. I think I ovulated on Thursday / Friday so I had 2-3 days notice and it seemed pretty accurate - BBT suggested the same. Not sure if my hormones were a bit off still which is maybe why I only had one flashing day! I think sometimes people have a few days with the flashing smiley.

The clearblue showed flashing smiley before I saw a definite change in the cheap LH tests so found it helpful! I guessed it picked up the oestrogen where LH tests wouldn't.

Lots of luck! Not long before you will be able to try again and its great you wont be travelling too😊

Travellingislife · 02/02/2023 06:28

@LMM91x thank you!
I would be feeling things too at 2dpo 😁 Fingers crossed for you this cycle!

@AnotherEllie I’m feeling good thank you! Can’t wait for ovulation now though.

It’ll be interesting to see when I ovulate this cycle, usually it’s day 16-18 but I hope it’ll be sooner 😅
Are you feeling good still? Have you decided if you’ll do an early scan?

AnotherEllie · 02/02/2023 09:49

@Travellingislife I think I'd like to but will probably see how I feel in a couple of weeks!

Will definitely be interesting to see when you ovulate. I ovulated about 13 days after my first negative HCG test which pretty aligns with my usual cycle! I definitely get wanting it to happen sooner though! It feels like forever when you're waiting doesn't it!

OP posts:
LMM91x · 02/02/2023 10:11

@AnotherEllie @Travellingislife it’s all mental really.

i’m starting to think maybe I didn’t ovulate??? Because if so it was like 2 days after a negative HCG but 14 days since heavy bleed?? We will see trying not to put too much pressure on it but i’m symptom spotting at 3dpo🤣🤣🤣🤣. If nothing else i’ll be happy to get a period cycle back for tracking like you said @Travellingislife !

i’m goong to try and not test … but I’m sure i’ll fail miserably at that!

AnotherEllie · 02/02/2023 10:37

@LMM91x you probably did ovulate! I've read some people ovulate even with faint positive pregnancy tests on the day of ovulation! I guess HCG just has to be low enough to allow it to happen.

It's so hard not to feel paranoid and second guess things now though - I really get that.

I wasn't going to test until maybe 12dpo but I felt sick and sore boobs at 7 or 8po and I just couldn't help myself! I feel more pregnant this time than with the loss - which is more like my first pregnancy. Hoping that is a good sign for this time around! Though dreading the nausea as I was awful until around maybe 18 weeks with my ds! Think I'm around 4 weeks now so will try and book in with the Dr's soon.

OP posts:
LMM91x · 02/02/2023 11:45

@AnotherEllie oh yes I would definately take that as a good sign and soak it all uppp❤️❤️ 🤞 I’m having the same over the next week or so! Xxxx

Hopefulhoney6 · 02/02/2023 15:44

Hi ladies - hope you don’t mind me jumping on here. I haven’t managed to catch up with the whole thread.

But I had an ERPC for MMC early December. Got my cycle back and had a v.light AF on 1st Jan.
Been doing BBT for ages - temp rise on CD18 (when I always ovulate), plus EWCM and a peak on CB Advanced on CD18 also. My LP is always 10 days.

However, I’m now 15DPO and no AF?! Temp has dropped…. But nothing?! And BFN.

Ive read lots of threads saying that second AF after MMC can be delayed by 2/3/4/5 weeks, but surely if I ovulated I should have AF. Unless I have scarring from the ERPC. Or it was false ovulation…. But I had the temp rise and BBT and OPK.

anyone else experienced this?! Would you speak to GP or EPU?

AnotherEllie · 03/02/2023 08:56

@Hopefulhoney6 I'm sorry that things are confusing right now.

I can't comment on periods as I ovulated and have since had a bfp before I've had a period so can't share my experience in that sense.

However, from this thread, we've all found things are a bit off.

I did find from reading that luteal phase generally varies only by 1 or 2 days max - its the day of ov that varies. Do you know your typical luteal length? I suppose it could be different though post MC.

If you don't mind me asking, are you actively TTC?

In your position, I would speak to a GP and see what they say. It can't do any harm but may shed some light on what is going on!

OP posts:
Hopefulhoney6 · 03/02/2023 10:33

Thanks @AnotherEllie. Congrats on your BFP.

I always ovulated on day 18 before and then had a 10 day luteal phase (was taking vitamins to try and lengthen it, but not to 16 days haha!!).

It’s strange as my temp rose and I had all the signs of ovulation. Then temp went down after c.12 days but no period. They were SO light before MC though - a couple of days of a pantyliner only.

We are actively TTC, but stopped DTD after my temp rose as I knew/ assumed I had ovulated! Now my temp is back down, might just get back to DTD every other day. And try and speak to the Gp next week.

thanks!

Travellingislife · 03/02/2023 14:55

@Hopefulhoney6 I had a weird cycle after my mc, I had all the signs of ovulation on around day 11 ( I usually ovulate between 16&18 with a 10 day luteal phase) but I didn’t get my period until day 32. I’m starting to think I didn’t ovulate at all. I’m on day 4 now I’m my second cycle and I can’t wait for my fertile days.

It can’t hurt to speak to the gp while you’re waiting! Oh and what vitamins are you taking for your luteal phase to lengthen? I would like mine to be longer as well. I’ve heard different opinions about Vitex and I’m not sure I want to try it. I’m going to start acupuncture now as I’ve heard that can help.
Hope you get some answers soon, it’s frustrating not knowing what’s going on with your hormones.

Hopefulhoney6 · 03/02/2023 18:00

@Travellingislife - thank you. Sounds like we have very similar cycles!! I’m on CD34 now with no period so wondering if it was the signs of ovulation, without the actual thing?! But weird my temp rose!!

I’m taking Solgar B-50 and Solgar Ester C 1000mg. Cheapest on Amazon I find. I used Vitex to try and restart my period after 17 years on the bill. Not sure if it helped, but it’s powerful so I would probably avoid.

My acupuncturist really wasn’t worried about my luteal phase being 10 days though. Esp as I got pregnant and retained the embryo inside. I’ve just started acupuncture so wondered if that has messed my cycles up but more likely the MMC!!

good luck!

AnotherEllie · 06/02/2023 10:33

Hi everyone
Keeping my fingers crossed for February for you all!
No real update from me other than I feel more pregnant this time. I did a test about 14 DPO and the line is strong now which encourages me. Slight nausea but not unmanageable and tired (but also my toddler could be the reason for that).
I feel like getting past the number of weeks when I had the loss will be the first step to feeling a bit less anxious.
@LMM91x any news from you? How many DPO are you?
Still deciding on a reassurance scan. Haven't told anyone about the pregnancy beyond my DH and probably wouldn't until a reassurance scan at the earliest - and only then would I probably tell parents.
It feels different after loss but taking it 1 week at a time!

@AnotherEllie what a beaaaautiful line. ❤️ definately hoping that getting past the ‘loss’ weeks does help you xxxxx

7dpo here, cramping 5 and 6 but nothing else. I do feel a bit ‘off’ but that may be because I had some wine Friday night for the first time in 3 months🤣. I’m not testing …. OH has hidden the tests and I’m gonna ride this one out…… fingers crossed AF doesn’t appear 🤞🤞🤞

Travellingislife · 06/02/2023 15:44

@Hopefulhoney6I take vit b complex and high strength vit c and d, as well as Co q10 and DHEA for egg quality.

I think I’ve always had a 10 day luteal phase and I have a son and one mc so it shouldn’t be a problem, but I worry when I read that it should be 11 days or more.. It’ll be interesting to see if acupuncture can help to lengthen it!

@AnotherElliea strong line would definitely encourage me too!
I told my closest friends and family right away when I was pregnant and when I lost it. I felt that it really helped as I wanted to talk about it. I didn’t with my first thought, I kept that a secret until about 14 weeks for my closest friends and family and to about week 25 for others. I felt super protective and didn’t want anyone to know, it was a strange feeling. Not sure what I would do if I get pregnant again.

I’m on day 7 now and will start with the opk’s tomorrow as I’ve got no idea how my cycle will behave this time!

@LMM91x fingers crossed for you!
