Has anyone left retained products of 16mm? If you did what happened?

Hi, sorry to hear you're going through this. I did although I'm not sure what size (I was just told 'quite a lot'). What have they advised you do?

My understanding is if there's not much they will often expect it to come away with your next period, other options are medical management or surgical management. I tried medical first but it didn't work so ended up repeating the surgery.

disconnecteddrifter · 14/11/2022 20:42

Thank you so much for getting bsck to me. The doctor said it wasn't big but it was vascular. I am trying to not take time off work but am worried in case I keep bleeding. Already had a period a few weeks ago and stuff came out but not all of it.

Have they suggested what they think should be done - medical or surgical or just leaving it?
Medical is good as you don't have to take time off work, if you time the tablets right you can do it over a weekend or days you're not working, hopefully as it's not the entire pregnancy it should be manageable in terms of pain & bleeding.
Equally medical may not work & you end up having surgery anyway. Surgery is over quickly & bleeding was minimal for me so recovery was much quicker.
Hope you're ok, such a stressful time

So how you got treated for vascular thing.

disconnecteddrifter · 30/05/2023 11:18

I had a manual evacuation. If I hadn't left it so long I think it would habe been pk but ended up losing a lot of blood and having emergency operation and overnight stay in hospital.

@disconnecteddrifter Can I ask how long you left it - and what you would have done instead, looking back? Currently awaiting MVA for RPOC :(

disconnecteddrifter · 31/05/2023 09:23

I left it around a month? Just thought it was usual but wish I had had the mva sooner. Thr blood loss from leaving it meant a hospital stay and a long recovery. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Thanks for the update @disconnecteddrifter I’m in a similar position (medical management nearly 5 weeks ago, scan 2 weeks ago showed RP) so hope it will go a bit more smoothly than yours. Sounds like quite an ordeal. Hope you’re doing better now xx

Oxalis00 · 02/06/2023 09:55

Thankfully all went well for me without major blood loss. But I still find it helpful to hear others’ stories and understand the range of possibilities and experiences. Thanks for sharing and support.

Hipww · 25/11/2023 06:42

hi! did you mean you lost a lot of blood during the surgery or after? i have vascular retained 2cm product vascular and i’m terrified of bleeding

Oxalis00 · 25/11/2023 07:44

I saw this pop up as I commented back in June. In fact after my above comments I had a D&C under GA (not an MVA, as they suspected molar) then 6 weeks of continuous bleeding with 2 heavy phases (both, I believe, around ovulation) for which I attended A&E. it eventually turned out I had further RPOC so had another surgery in July - and a blood transfusion and iron infusion. It was a scary time but I’m back to normal now. As far as I can tell this is pretty unusual though!

@Hipww I’m sorry you’re going through this. Chances are you’ll have a much more straightforward experience and this will all be behind you soon. Do you want surgery/medical management for the RPOC? I’m sure you could push for that if so. If you’re concerned about your volume of blood loss at any time make it known. I didn’t find their ways of measuring relevant (ie filling a pad in X time - mine all came out on the toilet). If the hospital aren’t responsive go to your GP for a fresh perspective.

Hipww · 25/11/2023 12:46

i’m having a d&c tuesday for vascular retained 2cm tissue, it’s been 2 months i’m terrified will i hemmorage if i do will they be able to stop it?? i’m scared to even be put to sleep

13lucy · 25/11/2023 16:51

@Hipww so sorry for your loss. I had RPOC after natural miscarriage and had MVA a few weeks later to remove it. I was also worried about bleeding and complications but it all went ok. I know it's difficult, but try and stay positive. It's a terrible thing to be going through.

Oxalis00 · 25/11/2023 17:40

Oh @Hipww I totally understand - and remember - the worry. I’d never had a GA before so the idea of the operation was huge. But you’ll be in exactly the right place for any treatment needed, and really well monitored. They’ll look after you. Ask the surgeon your questions and I’m sure they’ll be able to reassure you.

Hipww · 21/12/2023 15:35

hiya how bad was your heavy phases of bleeding did you pass clots during them

Hipww · 29/12/2023 07:54

Hiya if seen ur comments on a few posts can I ask you a few questions? How long did ur spotting last

Hipww · 29/12/2023 07:55

Hiya did you end up passing any tissue at home on ur own at all with it being vascular? C

Oxalis00 · 29/12/2023 08:42

Sorry you’re still dealing with this @Hipww I don’t know if you’re addressing your questions to me? I have spotting for 2.5 months with two episodes of heavy gushes during that time, with big clots. It didn’t clear the retained tissue, I needed a hysteroscopy for that.

Hipww · 29/12/2023 10:51

Oh wow was you put to sleep for that? X

Hipww · 29/12/2023 10:52

Also do you know what the clots was if they wasn’t the retained product?x

Oxalis00 · 29/12/2023 10:57

Yes, I had a GA. It was fine, much more straightforward than I’d feared. I think my body was just bleeding continuously trying to flush out the RPOC. It wasn’t working so I lost a lot of blood.

Hipww · 29/12/2023 11:20

@Oxalis00 what a lot of blood during the hysteroscopy or before ? I’ve had 2 big bleeds and lost tissue and clots I’m hoping it’s passed finally stopped bleeding and got brown now

Oxalis00 · 29/12/2023 11:28

No I had two significant episodes of bleeding after my D&C before the hysteroscopy. The last of them triggered the scan that resulted in the hysteroscopy. Hopefully if your bleeding has slowed you’ll be clear now, but if you have any worries do go back to them. Worth getting a blood count via GP to check you’re not anaemic as a result.

Hipww · 29/12/2023 11:34

@Oxalis00 so was yours a molar or rpoc I had a Mmc had tablets then I have rpoc but at first they tried telling me it was a molar. But it’s rpoc but vascular

Oxalis00 · 29/12/2023 12:12

Similar to yours by the sounds of it - MMC found at 12 weeks, treated with tablets, then RPOC found 5 weeks later so had D&C as they suspected molar but it wasn’t. Further RPOC found 6 weeks after that so I had the hysteroscopy.
