TTC after one or multiple mc's

chasingtherainbow1 · 25/08/2021 15:44

Hi

So I have had 2 mc now, one of which was a mmc. No children previously. I have managed to conceive easily, both pregnancies were conceived first month of trying but unfortunately both lost.

I am on day 9 of my cycle after my first proper period after mc and and throwing myself back into the TTC journey. Just wondering if anyone is in a similar position and would like to support each other through the journey?

I've seen and been part of other groups on the conception thread but feel it would be more beneficial on this as we would have been through the same.

Hi @chasingtherainbow1, I'm so sorry for your losses. I am in the exact same position - one MMC a few months ago at 12 weeks, and a natural miscarriage at 6 weeks earlier this month. Also have no children and managed to conceive very quickly both times.

We figured we may as well try before my first period arrives, but not get too caught up in it all. Judging by CM I think I'll be ovulating in the next few days, but I'm aware my hormones may all be messed up due to the miscarriage!

Would be great to give and have support through this. Have you been offered any testing?

I hope you're okay ❤️

Hi @chasingtherainbow1 and @Jj2393 hope it's ok if I join too. Very sorry for your losses. I am lucky in that I already have a child however have had three losses in the last year (at around 11, 7 and 12 weeks). I'm waiting to be referred for testing and will probably wait until then before starting again.

chasingtherainbow1 · 26/08/2021 20:25

@Jj2393 sorry to hear about your losses too, it's such an awful time isn't it!

I think I'm due to ovulate in about 5 days so sounds like we're at quite similar stages. Yeah it would be nice to have someone who is going through the same to chat to as I feel it makes friends and family feel a bit awkward if I talk about it all the time.

I feel like my hormones might still be a bit all over the place but will definitely start trying again this month. You'll have to keep me updated on how you get on. I've not been offered tests yet and I know this sounds awful but I'd rather try again now if there is a problem as I don't want to keep waiting and then have to wait for tests on top of that.

@Greymalkin12 I'm so sorry you've experienced 3. Hopefully your wait won't be too long! Have they told you how long you might be looking at waiting?

It's such a lonely place to be in and never expected it to feel half as awful as it does. Hope you're both doing ok x

Hiya Smile
So sorry for your losses. I'm in a similar position in that I've had a miscarriage at 4+4 in July and August. No previous children. Also had a chemical back in 2013 when we weren't trying.
X

WJK00 · 27/08/2021 17:53

Sorry for your losses op Thanks I'm in the same position. No children and had an ectopic in March and a mc in June this year.

As I haven't struggled to fall pregnant I am hoping it won't take too long this time either and will stick. I've thrown myself back into TTC straight after both 🤞🏼 x

chasingtherainbow1 · 27/08/2021 18:24

@jennyv16 aw I'm sorry you're going through it again this month. Will you be referred for tests as you've had three now? It's so frustrating having to keep going through it it's my it. Hopefully you might get some answers now!

@WJK00 sorry to hear of your losses too. Yeah I guess in a way it's good that we seem to have fallen pregnant quickly as I can't even imagine how awful it must be to take ages to conceive and then miscarry. Yeah I think throwing myself into it seems to help for me. Gives me something to focus on. I'm on CD10/11 so hoping to start now. I just hate the waiting after. Fingers crossed for us 🤞

Thank you! Yes I emailed my GP today to ask to be referred for testing. Hopefully it might be something really simple. Have you had any tests done yet?

chasingtherainbow1 · 27/08/2021 18:40

@jennyv16 that's good, hopefully you can get the ball rolling! You'll have to let us know how you get on. No I've been told that I have to wait and see what happens in the next pregnancy. They say it's only 1% of women who have 3 miscarriages in a row and that it's unlikely, but I've had 2 and that meant to be only 2% of women. I just find the whole process so wrong. I think whoever came up with that rule has obviously never had to experience how emotionally painful the whole thing is.

I totally agree! I wish (even if we had to pay a set fee) they would test us before we start trying!!

Legoisaws8om · 27/08/2021 19:44

Hi all hope you don't mind me jumping on. I have just found out I had a missed miscarriage but am keen to start trying to convieve again. Did you all wait for your period or just start and then tested a few weeks later to see if any luck? Thank you

I just started trying again immediately. I got pregnant the next cycle (without having had a period in between) but sadly miscarried again x
Greymalkin12 · 27/08/2021 20:21

I've only got as far as booking a GP appointment, the EPAS unit wrote to the GP to refer me, and the GP has received the letter but tell me I have to attend an appointment with them before they will refer me (so a two week wait until the appointment). All very convoluted and I suspect costing the NHS! I sort of didn't give myself much time to think with the first two, but with the last one I've really found myself dwelling on it.

Good luck to everyone TTC and sorry for your losses. @jennyv16 hope you are seen soon x

chasingtherainbow1 · 27/08/2021 20:40

@Legoisaws8om after my first mc I got pregnant again without a period but then had a second mc. I don't think that had anything to do with it but decided to wait until I've had a period this time just in case.

@Greymalkin12 I hope the process goes quickly for you! I felt I really swelled on the second one but I think that's because from having surgical management until last week, I was still getting positive tests so it felt like it was never ending.

Greymalkin12 · 29/08/2021 08:30

@chasingtherainbow1 thanks for your message, that's exactly it, my last one also felt never ending as a mmc. Best of luck with this cycle

Rtmhwales · 31/08/2021 00:03

Are you taking baby aspirin this time? My doctors are all obsessed with me taking one aspirin a day and 5mg of folic acid to help prevent future miscarriages. I just got a positive test yesterday after trying 8 solid months after a miscarriage in December so am trying to follow all the advice after giving up on it a few months ago. They reminded me again today about the aspirin though!

PoopMaster · 31/08/2021 08:01

Sorry for all your losses and congratulations @Rtmhwales

I am ttc after a mmc in July (at 12 weeks, baby dated 9.5). Hormones all over the place, still carrying a bit of extra weight I put on and have terrible acne, so just feeling fed up. Last week after feeling fine for ages I felt waves of sadness again, I guess that is going to happen. Hoping to get a bfp soon, I had a heavy period this month and possibly due end of the week so waiting to see what happens (I tried to test for ovulation but didn't pick up a surge, just high for a couple of days).

Taking folic acid but not aspirin, I was told to start taking it at 12 weeks by my midwife so interested to hear more about that.

chasingtherainbow1 · 31/08/2021 08:40

@Rtmhwales congratulations on your pregnancy! Wishing you all the luck with this one! I haven't been told to take aspirin but I think it's something I'll do if o get a BFP because I have had a blood clot in the past. Where can you get 5mg folic acid? Does that have to be prescribed?

@PoopMaster I haven't been testing for ovulation so I'm not sure if I will ovulate either. I think I'm due to ovulate in the next couple of days. I feel like I should test to see if my body has returned to normal but part of me doesn't want to because I told myself I'd try taking a relaxed approach to conceiving. Will see what happens this month and maybe I will test next month if I'm not pregnant

Unfortunately in the same position more or less. Had a healthy baby prematurely in June 2018. Then missed miscarriage at 7 weeks in December last year. Nothing until this month and had a chemical today. It just feels like my body does not want to be pregnant. It's hard isn't it? Feels like having some people in the same boat could be helpful so.. hi!

I'm just taking 5x the dose of 1mg folic acid. Aspirin didn't seem to make a difference considering this one didn't stick anyway but who knows. I hope they'll refer for testing soon.

Nat6999 · 01/09/2021 01:08

I had 2 mc before getting pregnant with ds, both before 6 weeks, GP had referred us to fertility clinic as I was 37 but a week after getting the appointment I got my bfp & thankfully I managed to carry him to term. I did nothing different during my pregnancy than I had with the other two, make sure you take folic acid or conception vitamins & keep your iron levels up. I didn't take any aspirin, just tried to eat as healthy as I could.

So sorry to hear this @Rtmhwales Sad It's so cruel and really is a complete gamble no matter what we do. Look after yourself Thanks
chasingtherainbow1 · 01/09/2021 10:56

@Rtmhwales I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you're doing ok ❤️ I hope they will let you get the tests done soon too. I definitely feel like talking to people who have also experienced it helps as it doesn't make you feel so alone.

@Nat6999 thanks for commenting, it's nice to hear that there are chances of success after multiple miscarriages.

Hi all, hope you don't mind me jumping in, and i'm sorry to hear of all your losses. Its so awful and unfair isnt it how we find ourselves here. I lost my first at 20 weeks 2 months ago and it feels like the only thing I can do to make life bareable is to get pregnant again as soon as possible. My 1st was not planned, so ive never actually TTC until now. I got a BFN last week after my first cycle trying and it actually broke me. Im now so terrified that my 1st was a total fluke and i wont be able to conceive (i'm 33). Does anyone else have these kind of fears or have any tips for how to deal with the stress of TTC after loss?

chasingtherainbow1 · 05/09/2021 23:36

@Missyoulittletyke sorry to hear about your loss. I can completely relate to how you're feeling because I also feel like it will be something that's constantly on my mind until I get pregnant again.

After having 2 miscarriages and getting pregnant on the first try each time, I worry more about getting pregnant easily but just losing the baby early again and again. But I do also feel like maybe I had my chances and that it will take me forever to get pregnant again now. Just feel like I'll never make it past 12 weeks. I'm just having my first ovulation since my last one so fingers crossed it happens for us again.

Have you been given any explanation as to why you had a miscarriage? Am I correct in thinking that you can have tests after a pregnancy loss at that stage?
