The only thing to do is to do a pg test and if positive, go to your local, early preg assesement unit. Good luck.

lulumama · 19/11/2007 20:24

could well be a miscarraige. if not, then you need to see doc anyway, as passing a clot like that is not good. do you recall when your last period was?

are you in pain? you can take paracetomal

i think you should call docs or NHS direct, maybe hold on to the clot you passed

so sorry, how worrying

re being on the pill: it does have a small , small failure rate when you take it, so you can get pregnant when taking it

whomovedmychocolate · 19/11/2007 20:27

I'm sorry you are going through this - I went through the same thing recently. If you can, save the clot - hospitals sometimes like to check them over. You need to have a pregnancy test and if it's positive you probably need an ultrasound just to check your uterus is now clear (to avoid infection).

You probably feel a bit numb right now, but if you start to feel upset, there are lots of us around who have been through it who will lend an ear.

Ditto re the preg test.

Just to add that whilst on the pill I used to get light periods and then every 3-4 months a horrendously painful one & passed clots, which I found out was fairly common. In fact it's part of the reason that I never went back on the pill after having ds1.

But well worth getting it checked out with your gp if not usual for you.

a pregnancy test might well be positive it can be positive for a few days after the miscarriage whilst the hormones stop being produced

have you been taking the pill back to back> if so you might have had a breakthrough bleed

but some women do have implanataion bleeds or small bleeds thorughout pregnancy at the time their period would have come

definitely need to see the doc, if it is a miscarraige , you need to be checked to ensure nothing is retained as that cna make you ill

biglips · 19/11/2007 20:30

But is it true that you can still get pg even if you had been taking the pill every day without fail? as i do know that the pill doesnt stopped you from getting pg

fireflyfairy2 · 19/11/2007 20:30

I agree with WMMC.

If you still have the clot, keep it.

I recall a friend taking her clot to the doctor to get checked, she was unaware she was pregnant & she started bleeding & this "clot" (later known to have been a foetus) shot out of her in the bath

Get yourself checked over xxxxxx

Yes, absolutely. You are not a time waster. You need to get an ultrasound urgently. Don't worry that you don't have it. It made me hurl to fish mine out and put it in a tuppaware box to take to the doctors.

lulumama · 19/11/2007 20:41

12 weeks foetus would be around 7 cm or so...a foetus is fully formed by then

i would definitely go to docs and describe what happened

let us know how you get on x

Heated · 19/11/2007 20:54

No that doesn't sound like a 'normal' clot and thus needs investigation. Hope all goes well with the gp.

When i was in early pg and having bad cramping etc i rang them and they were really good. Asked lots of questions and were reassuring. Maybe if you speak to someone with a medical field you can get a better idea of what to do. Whether you should wait for gp or get seen sooner?
