Ovulation/period Q’s after miscarriage

Just a quick question...
Have been bleeding and had positive tests for 5.5wks after miscarriage. Finally had a negative 2days ago! Still spotting a tiny bit though. Will I now ovulate when bleeding completely stops then period or could I go straight into a period?
First miscarriage so after some advice!
Thank you so much!

Hi @hollyjane123 I'm not sure on the answer to your questions but wanted to say hi as I'm in a similar position and seeking reassurance!

As I understand it (and may be completely wrong) you don't ovulate whilst you still have HCG in your system. I had a positive test 3 weeks after my miscarriage but two days later I tested negative. Exactly seven days after that I had a "period" but it only lasted around 24hrs, so not even sure it was a period in the truest sense of the word.

We desperately want to TTC again but I feel so confused by what my body is doing. This was our second pregnancy after we made the decision to terminate our first for medical reasons back in November 😥

I'm currently using the Clearblue Digital ovulation gizmo, so hoping it will give me some reassurance moving forward.

Anyway, I just wanted to pop up as I noticed you hadn't received a reply. Hopefully some more lovely ladies will pick up this thread and help us understand a bit more what our bodies are up to! xxx

My understanding is that following miscarriage it can take a few cycles for your hormones to balance back out to whatever is normal for you. First cycle after bleeding ends is quite up-in-the-air. You may ovulate but it may be later than a "normal" cycle. You may not ovulate at all. You may ovulate at the same time post-bleed as you normally would. It's gonna be down to your body and unfortunately you just have to wait and see - worst answer ever I know. If you symptom track then hopefully you'll get your usual ov symptoms at some point and go from there. But things might just be a bit all over the place til you get a proper period and kind of reset from there. I finished miscarrying on Thursday so I'm in limbo myself. I'm not writing the cycle off entirely but very much telling myself to expect nothing and looking forward to getting a period so I know where I stand.

Boredinthehouse12 · 25/08/2020 22:22

@Tulpabean can I just ask how you know you finished miscarrying today? Did you have a scan? I’m currently bleeding after a MMC and wondered how I’m meant to know when it’s over. The bleeding keeps starting and stopping.

LoubyLou85 · 26/08/2020 11:11

Hi @Tulpabean thank you for your reply it was really helpful for me. I'm so sorry for your loss ❤️ Limbo land is so hard 😔 and it's compounded by this lockdown, not being able to do the things we ordinarily would and see those we love in the same way to keep ourselves occupied.

Hopefully our bodies will get on an even keel sooner rather than later. For me that's most of my problem, not knowing what it's doing. We started trying as soon as the bleeding stopped but it feels a bit futile for now, with not having a clue what's going on. I guess we just have to wait and see.

@boredinthehouse I think every woman is different. My bleeding tapered off like a period and I could then pin point when the miscarriage stopped after a few days of no bleeding. I hope your doing ok, it's such a rough time. Mine was a MMC too and I feel so let down by my body. Not because the pregnancy didn't continue but because my body didn't tell me it had and did the exact opposite and let me think all was well (and boy did it 🤢)

Sending you all love 💗

Xxx

Thanks all for your responses :)

I had a negative ovulation stick yesterday and a positive smiley face today so guessing I’m ovulating now?! Hard to know as had some pinky blood today. Just don’t know what is going on do you!!

@hollyjane123 you're welcome! I'm CD10 and still on Low fingers crossed my high and peak are just around the corner xx

Cornflake24 · 26/08/2020 19:46

@Boredinthehouse12 I dont think there is an easy way, I had an MVA on 20th July and my miscarriage didn't end until 13th Aug due to tissue left in. I would say a negative pregnancy test is best way to know its over or blood tests to confirm your HCG level. My bleeding started and stopped but I still has positive tests, once I got a negative test everything stopped

Twcsteph84 · 27/08/2020 07:12

MC bleeding started on 3rd aug. (3 weeks after Us showed no heartbeat). Had heavy bleeding and had to walk to emergency where O&G managed to remove some tissues stucked at cervical Os. According to Dr, I should test negative 3 weeks after. Otherwise, may need to d&c to clear remaining. Tested negative early this week in followup check up. O&G mentioned that period should be within 1-2 weeks. Still waiting on my period so I can try again.

Cornflake24 · 27/08/2020 08:56

@Twcsteph84 omg I got tissue stuck too spent 30 mins getting half the contents on my womb removed, were your cramps horrific or was it just me? I have been neg since 13th aug so will tell you when my period arrives

Twcsteph84 · 27/08/2020 10:42

@Cornflake24, yeah, the pain was so bad (more like strong constant contractions), bleeding profusely and I endured it at home for 4hrs before decided to go to the hospital. Fortunately the O&G on call acted quickly, kept asking me to cough to dislodge the tissues. I didn’t go for surgery, they added medical management in the ward where more was removed. ☺️☺️ Since it’s my first pregnancy, Dr didn’t want to mess with my uterus surgically 😅.
All the best in your next conception.

Cornflake24 · 27/08/2020 11:10

@Twcsteph84 glad it wasn't just me, I had the MVA under local and honestly it being blocked at my cervix was a million times worse!

Hollyjane123 · 28/08/2020 11:43

I’m going into the doctors today as I had another clearblue positive yesterday :(
And still bleeding quite a bit each morning that slows down in the afternoon.
Just despair now!!

@Hollyjane123 how long has it been now?

LoubyLou85 · 28/08/2020 12:56

So sorry to hear that @hollyjane123 hopefully the doctors will have some answers for you

Hollyjane123 · 28/08/2020 16:14

It’s been 8weeks now :( I’m having an MVA Tuesday as I still have retained tissue!

OP posts:
Cornflake24 · 28/08/2020 17:53

@Hollyjane123 aww thats rubbish, I had an MVA and it wasn't that bad, hopefully they will get it all and then its over. Didnt you get a negative pregnancy test?

Hollyjane123 · 28/08/2020 19:17

I’ve had some negative cheaper tests but CB tests have been positive the whole time.
Was your MVA successful? Am really hoping that they will clear everything and I’ll start to get some CB negatives!!
How long was it till you recovered from
Your MVA? Hope you don’t mind me asking some questions!
Thank you 😊

@Hollyjane123 that is so gutting. Feel awful for you. All the ups and down of this journey are torturous. Whenever you think there's a bit of light at the end of the tunnel, this happens. Atleast it's not long til Tuesday. Fingers crossed it goes well and resolves everything and you can get back on with trying. Well done for getting through it so far. It's no easy task and sometimes I don't think we give ourselves any credit for surviving this stuff.

Cornflake24 · 28/08/2020 20:16

@Hollyjane123 id like to lie and say it was but sadly I had tissue left, however I did start miscarrying the tissue just under 2 weeks later. I had the MVA first though so hadn't passed any tissue. You have been bleeding so will be alot less in your womb so I'm sure you will have alot more luck.

I found the procedure ok just like a bad smear test, I was tender after more than sore, maybe stayed tender and my tummy felt swollen for about a week, I was back at work next day but found i felt a bit weird if I took it easy, wasn't really in pain though more just felt like a bruise. Any questions at all let me know, I spent ages reading up and was still nervous lol

Hollyjane123 · 28/08/2020 20:37

Yes I had a whole evening of heavy bleeding and passed a lot of pregnancy tissue and clots the few days after my medical management. So am hoping that there isn’t much in there and they’ll be able to clear it all properly.
Just desperate to move forward, think when this part is over I’ll feel like I can move forward a bit. Will be just waiting for AF then hopefully!!
I’m usually good with hospital procedures etc so am feeling ok at the mo, will be nervous Tuesday morning though probably! Am hoping the gas and air will help if needed!

Hollyjane123 · 28/08/2020 20:39

Thank you! You are so right, we are all so strong dealing with this all.
I’ve felt very down some days and almost like I’m suffocating with the stress/upset of it all but some days are better than others. I feel a little better today as I know why I’m bleeding still and hoping it will all get sorted Tuesday. Just can’t deal with it going on any longer!!

Cornflake24 · 28/08/2020 21:42

@Hollyjane123 I didnt use the gas an air, just stared at ceiling and tried to breath through it so I'm sure you will be fine without, the staff were great and the tea and toast after was brill.

I was glad when that was all over and I finally stopped bleeding, just waiting on my period now hope it arrives soon!

I wouldnt worry to much, just focus on it all being over Smile

Hollyjane123 · 28/08/2020 22:09

Feel like I’m always wishing my life away at the mo but I’m really looking forward to it being Tuesday evening and all over!!
Can’t wait to get TTC again!

@Hollyjane123 I'm the same, just wanted it to be over. Horrible thing to go through.
