Pregnancy of unknown location

So this is my second miscarriage but when I had an internal scan sue shooting pain on my right side and was spotting bright red blood they diagnosed it as a pregnancy of unknown location and was told they would have to monitor my bloods.
So I had a call back yesterday to say the HCG had gone down in my bloods which meant the pregnancy was non viable and I have to have another blood test next week to check again.
But all the cramping has pretty much stopped and I haven't bleed at all apart from when wiping which over the past 3 days turned to brown and now nothing and almost now like fertile cm. so over all not even enough blood or discharge to get on a pad.

Can your body just absorb everything and only bleed a tiny amount? Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I'm sorry you're having to go through this. It sounds like mine. But I spotted for a couple of days and the Day after my scan, i bled more because I think I had 3 different things inserted in me, one for the scan, one internal check and one was the one they use in the smear test. It was more bleeding. Then got a call to say my hcg went down a lot so I must have had a miscarriage.

I was around 6 weeks and didn't bleed a lot initially it was just spotting. I guess it depends how far along u were. I'd wait for another blood test to see what it shows. I hope you're alright.

Star1995 · 16/05/2020 08:55

@faithfulbird thank you for your reply. Sorry you have been through the same it really is shit.

last night I started cramping really badly and now I'm full on bleeding so I think my body is sorting it out itself. I think I was around 5-6 weeks which is why when I saw what my HGC levels where I knew what was happening. It kind of makes me annoyed how much all the nurses bang on about how rare it is and how they try to keep your hopes up which I think just makes it worse when you know in your heart it's over.

Sorry to jump on this thread:

Hi I'm new here and wondered if anyone can offer me any advice.
2 weeks ago I had a positive pregnancy test (2nd baby)
But this week on Monday I started to bleed.
Orgianlly I thought I was around 5/6weeks but after an internal scan and no signs of pregnancy yet they said I may actually only be a couple of weeks... I had no idea a test would pick it up that early!
Anyway I'm still bleeding lost some clots so immediately assumed a MC, but bloods tests has confirmed a rise in HCG levels but it hasn't doubled. But is in the 300s.
I am back again tomorrow for more bloods but I am still bleeding although it seems to slowing down a little.
And pain wise haven't really had much other than a period type cramp.
The hospital has suggested it could be an ectopic pregnancy so I am currently in limbo and feel exhausted from the all the not knowing and worry.

Has anyone else had similar and could offer me any advice.

Thankyou so much in advance!

faithfulbird · 16/05/2020 20:32

@Star1995 I was the same with the bleeding it just got a bit more after a bit. Yeah hate how the nurses talk about it. One of them was like 'NO NO I've NEVER had one but obviously I've got experience dealing with them'

I'm sorry we've all had to go through this. I've been here since I've had my miscarriage and have noticed so many women are experiencing the same thing every day. It isn't rare. But its not nice to have to go through....

faithfulbird · 16/05/2020 20:36

@Jolie23 hi really sorry I know it's hard not knowing and worrying. Have hope because you've got good signs with the HCG etc. I think with you it might be a waiting game because you're so early. Make sure you rest and wait for the hospital to get back to you. I've read a lot of cases where it's gone either way...but with yourself it might be a waiting game till they can see what's on the scan. Fingers crossed x

Jolie23 · 16/05/2020 20:52

Thankyou I'm just loosing all hope now I have a feeling its not viable but I'm just so worried about it being ectopic hoping tomorrow I will get some answers. Thanks again and sorry you have both been through a difficult time also

BasalGanglia · 16/05/2020 21:25

@Star1995 hi, I'm currently experiencing a resolving ectopic pregnancy and having hcg blood tests every week. I've been bleeding on and off for about 7 weeks but it's only light with no pain. I'd had no bleeding at all when they diagnosed me.

My hcg level was 5000 to start with and have been dropping steadily to 60 last week with no treatment. It's awful to go through and you have my sympathies.

Star1995 · 17/05/2020 01:58

I have been in a lot of pain all day and passed a few big clots and one was grey just like last time so I think I have passed it now and just hoping all my hormone levels have gone down when I have my bloods done on Wednesday so I can close this chapter.

@Jolie23 there is nothing worse then just being in limbo. I really hope you get your answers soon.

@star1995 I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I understand tjwh feeling of wanting to close this chapter. I am back at the hospital today and I'm just hoping my HCG has gone down its the best out in an already rubbish situation.

Thankyou for your support on this thread.

Can I ask @basalganglia what has your experience been like.
Did they diagnose yours through a scan if you had no pain?

BasalGanglia · 17/05/2020 10:11

@Jolie23 hi, I'll outline my experience for you (sorry if it's long!)

I got my positive pregnancy test in early February but booked an early private scan for March when I would've been 8 weeks as I wasn't having any pregnancy symptoms and wanted some reassurance. At the scan they couldn't see anything and suggested I may have my dates wrong so they offered to rescan me in 2 weeks time. At the second scan they saw an empty irregular testimonial sac only measuring 5 weeks when I should've been 10. This time they referred me to my early pregnancy unit and I started spotting that night.

The next week I had an internal ultrasound and they discovered I had a cornual ectopic (implanted right at the corner of the tube and uterus). Because I was in no pain and wasn't bleeding heavily they were happy for me not to have surgery. Usually they'd offer a methotrexate injection but didn't want to because of the covid situation, so I've just been having weekly blood tests until it resolves. There's still a chance it could rupture but I feel fine physically. It's hard mentally so look after yourself.

BasalGanglia · 17/05/2020 10:12

Gestational not testimonial 😬

Jolie23 · 17/05/2020 18:01

Been back to the hospital today more bloods HCG gone up again but only by 100 its not 480 they have said it should well be in the 700s by now.
Still no further along with any answers.
But I am still bleeding.
I am seeing my consultant Tuesday I am hoping he will be able to shed more light!

Thanks again for the support on this thread!

BasalGanglia · 20/05/2020 13:42

@Jolie23 how did you get on with the consultant?

Jolie23 · 20/05/2020 13:58

@basalganglia I'm just on my way to the hospital now it wasn't good news it's looking like a confirmed ectopic and I need the injection
Thankyou so much for checking in how are you?

BasalGanglia · 20/05/2020 15:15

@Jolie23 ahh sorry to hear that. It's awful to go through, especially right now because you can't have anyone with you at the hospital.

I'm ok thanks, just having weekly blood tests and waiting for my levels to get to zero eventually. They were 60 last week. I'm wondering why some people are being given the injection and I wasn't though...

Jolie23 · 20/05/2020 15:36

@basalganglia I dont think I am going to have the injection not today anyway I have decided to try and wait ( I think!) to see if nature can take its course just need to make a decision and if that's the case il be back next week for more bloods and to go from there
I'm pleased yours has been natural that's really what I am hoping for

BasalGanglia · 20/05/2020 20:04

@Jolie23 I suppose it's been better going without the injection in some ways. You can't drink if you've had the injection and I've needed a few drinks with everything going on! Also you can't try again for a while due to the effects of the drug. I'm 34 and this was was my first pregnancy so I'm keen to try again when we can.

Jolie23 · 20/05/2020 20:14

@basalganglia I didn't end up having the injection I just couldn't face it. My hormone levels are not high they are still below 1000 so they have said I can go back next Tuesday where they should have a clearer picture
I think because they can't defiantly say its ectopic 100% it's made me wobble and as long as its safe to u really do want to try and avoid the injection
It's reassuring to hear your were at 5000 and have been decreasing naturally.
If I become unwell or have any pain I need to go to A&E otherwise I will be back next week.

I think I have decided if my hormones are continuing to increase even if its not loads but no signs of coming down after 7 blood tests then I will make the decision to have the injection.
I really hope your feeling back to 'normal' soon and are able to try for your baby.

Please keep us posted.
And thankyou for the support on here. It's good to talk to people who understand what you are going through mentally and physically.

@star1995 how are you

Star1995 · 21/05/2020 16:55

@Jolie23 I'm okay thank you my levels have slowly decreased and I just had a phone call saying they are really low now so essential a negative and have been discharged which is good!

I'm so sorry that you are still having to go to hospital during this shitty time and that you are both still in limbo xx

OP posts:
BasalGanglia · 21/05/2020 17:20

@Star1995 that's good news being discharged. Hope you're ok.

My HCG today was 53 so it's still coming down, just very slowly!

Jolie23 · 21/05/2020 21:30

I'm sorry it wasn't the outcome you wanted @star1995 but happy you have been discharged.

I have been back to the hospital today and its looking like I'm going to need the jab tomorrow my levels aren't decreasing and I have had some aching pains in my groan today.
I desperately wanted to do this the more natural way but it's looking like This isn't possible

I'm also not bleeding now last week I bled and lost clots but my hormones are still rising.
@basalganglia I'm glad yours have decreased natually

thankfulbee · 22/05/2020 07:44

Hello all, sorry you've had to go through this. I'm hoping PUL/ectopic ladies can tell me I'm being stupid with what's happening to me.

I had an ERPC for a MMC 5w ago, but the reason I'm posting is because I think I may have had a CP around 1w ago. I had been testing on 10mIU HPTs and things seemed to be negative, but then I saw a shadow last week, had definite lines on Monday, and they were gone again on Tuesday. However, I'm still getting a shadow, and am tearing my hair out in frustration. I just want my period back.

So, what I'm asking is this possible CP doesn't sound like a resolving ectopic does it?

I know that HCG in those tend to be low and slow-rising, but I just don't understand why I still have HCG in my system. I've also been getting some ovarian/uterine cramps over the past few days. Aside from that I don't have any of the other symptoms from this page.

Thank you so much and wishing you all good luck with your recoveries xx

Jolie23 · 22/05/2020 08:23

Hi @thankfulbee at the risk of sounding stupid I'm not sure what all your abrevations mean.

BasalGanglia · 22/05/2020 13:52

@Jolie23 MMC = missed miscarriage, ERPC = endoscopic removal of products of conception, CP = chemical pregnancy

@thankfulbee I think a chemical pregnancy sounds more likely than an ectopic. Can you get in touch with your GP at all?

thankfulbee · 22/05/2020 14:42

@BasalGanglia Thank you for responding - I actually decided to ring my EPU this morning and they were very good and saw me straight away. They did a scan and couldn't see anything amiss, and their HPT came back as definitely negative, which was at least a bit of a relief. I'm just back waiting for my period to come now.
