Hi SamK79
I was scanned 8th March at 10 weeks and was also told I had an empty sac which was a very upsetting. I was given another scan for 10 days later (so yesterday) to just make sure nothing developed since the last scan, just in case I got my dates wrong. I was very similar to you in that they told me my sac measured just less than 6 weeks, but my husband and I were pretty sure we couldnt have got the dates that wrong.
Cut long story short, I did miscarry last Friday before i ended up having my follow up scan yesterday. The scan helped to confirm i had miscarried fully and nothing is left in there to require medical intervention luckily.
There may still be a chance the dates are wrong for you as i have read about irregular periods causing incorrect dates to be calculated. So it is best to wait for the 2nd scan, however for myself and my husband where it didnt work it, it did help immensely that we were mentally prepared for me miscarrying on Friday. I was more relieved that my body had finally recognised that there was no baby and started to do the right thing.
I think it is worth reading about miscarriages and what you might experience just so you're not shocked, for myself obviously it was horrible but manageable, because i had read a lot of threads about miscarriages I was less scared as I could recognise similar symptoms that other people had described and I could trust what was happening to me was meant to be.
One thing I would warn you on are possible contractions, I thought it would just be a heavy achey period, but i started experiencing contractions which I wasnt warned about by the hospital or nurses.
I've written more about it in a blog post here >>> www.womenontheladder.com/life/2019/3/19/my-miscarriage , as it helped me so much reading other people's experiences i want to help others who may have to go through the same thing and feel prepared. And also writing about it has helped me process what has happened to me.
As well as resting over the weekend, I've taken two days off work so far and am hoping to go back tomorrow, but everyone's body is different and some may take longer to recover than others. I would always trust your own instincts as you know your body better than anyone else.
I hope Ive been able to help and I wish you the best in getting through this tough situation.
