I knew something was wrong through the whole pregnancy.
Woke up this morning bleeding. Went to hospital, they pretty much confirmed it.

Is what I'm experiencing normal? Red blood and lots of very painful abdominal pain. Worsens when sitting on the toilet.

Am I right in thinking that as I had a scan Wednesday before this happened and sac and yolk sac were in the right place that it can't be ectopic? That's what hospital seemed to think but they didn't give a lot away.

I'm sorry treacle it's a horrible thing to go through. If you've had a scan showing the sac was in your uterus then you don't need to worry additionally about ectopic pregnancy. Your body needs to go through a mini labour to open the cervix and expel the contents of the uterus so even early on the cramps and bleeding can be severe. Have you taken some painkillers? If you are bleeding heavily enough to soak a maxi pad in 30 mins or if you feel faint or unwell then get back in touch with EPU. You may or may not be aware of passing the sac, sometimes it's lost amongst the clots, but normally bleeding s heavy until that passes then settles down to period like proportions, and continues for 1-2 weeks. You should do a HPT in a fortnight to ensure it's negative and contact EPU if not.

You will probably find the thread "tips for coping" helpful to reassure yourself that what you are experiencing is within normal. The info given out by hospitals is often woefully lacking on what it's really like.

I had nothing from the hospital. No advice or anything.
The bleeding is calming but cramps are still severe. I'm taking paracetamol at the moment. I have a scan Wednesday to check all is gone.

If you saw the sac in the right place then no it def isn't ectopic at least. I just had an ectopic, the bleeding was dark brown with lots of left sided pain, I was rushed in for emergency surgery. Thinking of you, so sad. Xx

Of you can take it, have some ibuprofen or co-codanol for better pain relief.

Yeah we had two early scans. No embryo just a sac and yolk sac. Lots of left sided pain but like you say I had a scan.
Thank you, I just hope I can get through the night. Does it matter taking more than 8 in the 24 hours?

You can stagger doses of paracetamol and ibuprofen, rather than take more than the recommended amount of either. I always find ibuprofen better for cramps anyway.

I'm so sorry treaclepie.

I had a miscarriage last week and I took maximum dose of paracetamol and ibuprofen and used 2 hot water bottles one on my back and one on my stomach. The pain was worse when I sat up so I led curled up in ball.

The miscarriage association is a good website for advice.

I'm thinking of you tonight, I hope you have somebody looking after you x

So sorry for your loss too. So I can have 2 paracetamol then 2 ibuprofen and repeat every two hours?

I have DH, we are muddling through together x

I think they are both 2 tablets every 6 hours if you are planning to take them for a 24 hour period (so maximum of 8 tablets in 24 hours) so I'd take 2 ibuprofen then 3 hours later 2 paracetamol and so on. If that's not enough contact out of hours GP for stronger prescribed pain relief.

Yes as suggested, combine ibuprofen with paracetamol or ibuprofen and co-codamol should banish the pain. Thinking of you x

I really don't think my emotions have caught up yet. It's my birthday monday so ive asked some friends to come over in the day. Really can't bear being alone yet and I'm definitely not going to work.

Thank you, I struggled last night. Got a me sleep between 2 and 5 and then again from about 6 til just so not too bad.
Bleeding a fair bit this morning and got some pain higher up in my stomach, not sure I this is wind?
Think I passed something with the last lot of blood. Sorry tmi, it shocked me really. I know it's probably a clot or the sac.

Not too good :( trying to get to sleep but in a lot of pain. All day had this new pain in my upper stomach as well as the lower pain.

Found it difficult today. It's my birthday tomorrow so hoping the pain eases off a bit. I have presents to open!

I can't wait to get to the doctors today. I'm in so much pain.
I don't know how much pain I should be expecting. Problem is I can't take any tablets or ill be going over the 8 in 24 hours rule.

treacle phone nhs direct. you shouldn't be in a lot more pain than simple painkillers can deal with, you need to be checked out and that needs to happen at the gynae department not your GP. Phone them now while the lines will be quiet and see if they think you should go in. At my hospital if you've been seen by the EPU they just send you straight to gynae for assessment if you are having problems. Hope they can help you soon

I haven't had any painkillers this morning though as it'd be too many. I'm going to have some now as my last ones were at 12. Technically had 8 yesterday so should be ok to have some now.

Will talk to DH then ring them.

I appreciate it was not how you planned to spend your birthday but better safe than sorry. If you don't feel better after normal painkillers then phone someone, please? Upper abdo pain doesn't sound right, miscarriage pain is from your uterus so in the same place, if worse in magnitude, as period pain. You've not had any reaction to painkillers in the past? Just wondered if you were not tolerating them? No vomiting or diarrhoea?

I rang them. They advised me to go to the gp. Since its out of hours they're getting a doctor to ring me.

The upper pain has eased it's all lower at the moment.
