Welcome everyone, pull up a chair! A thread for anyone who has suffered multiple miscarriages and is in need of company, information, moral support, tea or sympathy.

Can I suggest we start page 1 with a recap of where we are all up to, because my fuddled head can't keep track?

In the same place) sorry my phone has gone mad! I didn't think your GP would need to refer again?

DownstairsMixUp · 13/01/2014 09:42

squiz I don't think the worrying will ever stop for us! We'll concentrate getting to the 12 week hurdle and something else will probably give us a wobble. I got given an EDD of 3rd of September by the GP (my DS birthday!) There can't be many days between us can there?

TinyTear · 13/01/2014 10:09

ac what a sad story

would it be possible to do the implantation with the NK treatment?

Wishing you all the best xx

ac73 · 13/01/2014 10:09

Have emailed the IVF team at Guys and told them I want a meeting and that I want the ET asap. Will keep you posted.

squizita · 13/01/2014 11:34

Not Yash asked them to refer me via email - must be . However thankfully this morning I got an email saying this was a formality and she'd already pencilled me in anyway, plus the antenatal appointment would be with a specialist so they wouldn't got rushing me through before we even know if there's a HB!

Downstairs yes sounds like we're similar!

Just found out a colleague has been off with a scare. Back now and still pregnant thank God. I had a chat but almost didn't want to say "I understand" because it would hardly be very reassuring (having no kids as I do it's pretty obvs that if I said I understood re EPU the big bad ghost of miscarriage would pop up and scare her even more).

AC That sounds a plan. Guys don't have to treat you for Quenby stuff, Quenby doesn't have to implant you - they just have to keep each other in the loop!

Desperatelywanttobeamum · 13/01/2014 12:45

Morning all please help.
Sept 2005- 21 weeks mc
10 more mmc under 12 weeks
June 2013- 16 weeks mc
Currently pg but not sure how far I am as my LMP was 19.11.13 and scan last week showed just a sac and yolk.
I'm am taking 75mg aspirin and cyclogest.
I have had numerous blood tests as has my husband and all came back normal.

Currently pregnant with brown blood and pains and this morning red blood. Not getting the support I feel I should be receiving considering my circumstances.

Any advice On how to help me keep this baby!!!

squizita · 13/01/2014 13:17

Desperately how awful for you. :( First off if you have blood/pain get to your EPU, under these circumstances go via A&E if needs be and wait! I would suggest, if you're in London, going to St Mary's, Guys or Imperial as they are the top notch of EPUs.

I agree you should have some more tests. Where did you have your previous ones? After your story you are eligible for St Mary's for sure.

Justonemoretime · 13/01/2014 17:43

The EPU/Gyne at UCLH also offer an excellent walk in service. Good luck Desperately.

bakingtins · 13/01/2014 19:36

AC I'm so sorry to read all you have been through, nobody should have so much to bear.
I'm a patient of Prof Q and currently 19 weeks pregnant on her protocol after 4 miscarriages at 8-10 weeks. I know of people who have subsequently been diagnosed with NK cell issues who have had late losses due to placental failure, so it's possible that it's all linked. I think in your shoes I would use the SMARD free embryo and throw everything at the pregnancy in terms of reducing NK cells, but I appreciate it's very hard to decide what is for the best.
There is a thread on the conception board for those with NK cell issues called "TTC or pregnant on pred - thread 12" where a lot of ladies are patients of Prof Q or Dr S. It might be worth posting there too.

Desperately also sorry to read your very sad story. It is the pits that you are not being well supported after so many losses. I hope you have managed to get a scan today.
It is probably of no help to you in your current pregnancy, but if you haven't been referred to St Mary's I would push for that as they seem to be the most thorough of the recurrent miscarriage services. I'd also pursue the immune/NK cell issues route by seeing Prof Quenby in Coventry or Dr Shehata or Gorgy in London (think they only see private patients)
Someone upthread did get Raj Rai at St Mary's to test for NK cells on the NHS but I don't think that is part of their standard protocol.
You may also want to check out the pred thread I mentioned to AC

Thanks Baking. Can I just ask, did you get pregnant naturally and if so, were you on progesterone from day 21? I have followed this protocol for last 3 months but no BFP. Prof Q. has said I should now take progesterone from BFP. Just wondered what your experience was. Thank you!

ac73 · 13/01/2014 20:34

Desperately, so sorry to hear your story. Really hope you are being looked after. Xxx

LateBloomer414 · 13/01/2014 23:05

I don't have much in these way of advice that hasn't already been shared by those way more knowledgeable than me, but wanted to extend a hello to you AC and Desperately. I'm sorry you had to find us but hope you find the support you need here and in RL.

I've been having a busy few days throwing myself the biggest pity party. How quickly I am reminded that I am really not doing so badly after all. Blood results at St Mary's tomorrow, fx it's either something fixable or nothing at all.

Justonemoretime · 14/01/2014 07:17

Morning Ladies, this is a rather Sad question, I'm afraid, but its really bothering me. Does anyone know what kind of time/age an embryo might succumb to blood clotting issues? I'm being offered a repeat TEG test at St Mary's when (if) I get pg again. I'm worried that the test (at 6-7 weeks) would be too late for any treatment to be effective. My first two losses were both at about 6-7 weeks, HB both times at 6.3 ish, spotting then mmc at about a week later. The only time I got further was when I was taking aspirin and that loss was Turner syndrome. I can't help thinking that the aspirin helped. The TEG test can't be done earlier than 6-7 weeks. what do you think? Thanks.

bakingtins · 14/01/2014 07:24

ac yes I got pregnant on day 21 progesterone but prof Q did say it seems to make it difficult for some couples and after 3 cycles she would rethink. Has it taken some time for you previously?
Good luck for results LB
Just would the aspirin interfere with the TEG test? Is it an either/or situation? If you did come up positive would they treat you with aspirin and heparin and will anyone prescribe you those without a definite diagnosis? I don't know much about it but AFAIK they can only do the TEG test in pregnancy, I presume you are normal on the non-pregnant clotting tests?

OP posts:
Justonemoretime · 14/01/2014 07:50

Hi Baking, yes I'm normal in a non pg state and the treatment if the repeat teg was abnormal would by 150mg aspirin, no herapin. I was on 75mg from before bfp last time as local RMC said to take it as a precaution. it did lead to a clothes soaking bleed tho, not related to mc. Taking aspirin would affect the teg so I shouldn't really take it from bfp.

TinyTear · 14/01/2014 08:24

Good luck today Late
I got pregnant with a sticky one the day St Mary's told me all the tests were normal...

Just with that sticky pregnancy St Mary's (as all the tests were normal) did repeat one of them at 5 weeks (I think it was TEG)

They even told me to go to the private wing to get the blood taken to be quicker and not wait for the regulart tuesday/wednesday appointments

bakingtins · 14/01/2014 09:19

Have you asked them about risks/benefits of taking 150 mg aspirin anyway? I know some people are saying it can interfere with implantation, what about taking it from a BFP? Worth asking the question about taking it regarless or going for a very early test as tiny suggested.

OP posts:
squizita · 14/01/2014 09:33

Just why not phone Yash and explain your concerns - ask them to be discussed by the team. I did this about a cycle query and she emailed me back within 48hr with what Mr Aziz said. Mention you're concerned because the TEG feels 'too late' they may well fit you in.

Good grief I feel sick as a dog this morning, worried it's because I ate (solid cooked) organic eggs yesterday duh. No sickiness, just a feeling. OFSTED is in the area and I am slightly paranoid they'll come in on the day of my appointment (as I line manage, me NOT being there would be rather stressful for me as I'd imagine one of my team having a meltdown for which I would be answerable). Oh well cannot be helped. Might have to explain to the HR team what the medical appointment is though.

Notgivingup1 · 14/01/2014 12:37

desperately so sorry that you are going through this and I hope you are being well looked after. That's the very least you deserve.

late hope all goes well today and you get some answers or a plan. You are allowed to throw pity parties - I threw a massive one last week. It was epic!

JBrd · 14/01/2014 13:31

Hello everyone, and welcome to the newbies! Some very sad stories, I'm so sorry that you find yourselves here. May your stay be short and happy Smile

Just I had a thought about your question with the clotting, but I'm afraid I can't help either. But for my last 2 pgs, I was advised to start the heparin as soon as I got my BFP, so I'm guessing that clotting problems can affect the embryo at any stage? Although I'm not sure how that would work before the placenta starts taking over... (Gosh, you'd think I know this by now!). Is there anyone you could ask, at the EPU or a consultant? It's tricky if you don't have an issue with clotting when not pg (did they actually test this 'properly', i.e. run a full thrombophilia screen?).
I'm also not sure about aspirin anymore - there are very different opinions out there as to when starting to take it, while ttc or only once you have a BFP. My consultant wasn't too helpful about this either, she said she was going to ask the haematologist. Hmph...

As for me, I gave SMEP my best shot, a lot of action last w/e around my ovulation date. And I only managed to scrape by without getting a bladder infection, it was touch and go yesterday if it would develop - but I drank my body weight in herbal tea and think I've managed to avoid it.
Now for another 2ww...

squizita · 14/01/2014 13:59

Just - re clotting I was told by St Marys that my particular form first attacks the lining cells around embryo when it's just a ball of cells settling in, so to start Heparin ASAP. However if they've advised you differently, and it's the same docs, I guess it might be different? If pregnancy causes the sticky blood in your case then perhaps it would need a certain HCG to become a problem? But as I said before it can't hurt to ask them?

Justonemoretime · 14/01/2014 17:08

Thanks Ladies, I've emailed Yash at St Mary's and hopefully she will get back to me soon. I think there are a range of ways blood can be sticky, Squiz. I'm defo on the aspirin only list rather than the herapin. They did the full works twice, 6 weeks apart, JBrd. All still theoretical, however, as no BFP yet. Think there may have been a hint of pink this monring, not enough to call spotting, but at 10 (I think) DPO, maybe its a good sign?

bakingtins · 14/01/2014 20:27

Fx for a BFP at the end of the week then just and another the following week for jbrd
How are all the early pregnant ladies doing?
desperately how are you today? I hope your bleeding has subsided.

OP posts:
Desperatelywanttobeamum · 14/01/2014 20:41

Hi ladies,

I went to my local a+e last night as I thought they might help, but I just got told to be patient and wait till Monday when I have my scan. The bleeding isn't like a period bleed it's just when I wipe. Sorry if that was too much. I'm just so scared it's happening all over again.

I'm thankful for finding this site as I've had a lot of support from you all over the last 2 days. I started my own thread which a lot of people have commented and helped. I'm reassured I'm not the only one going through these problems.

Xxxx
