Help! I'm 42, 7weeks pregnant and bleeding

Hi this is my first time at using this! I have just recently miscarried I am now pregnant again, but bleeding now for 3days. I have a scan on Monday, but really worried I have lost this one too. Most symptons have gone(but I didn't really have many in the first place!)as of yet I do not have any cramps....just bleeding. I just wondered if anyone else out there has gone through this??
I have had 2previous successful pregnancies resulting into 2 healthy kids, but that was in my 20's! so it feels all new again!

I'm sorry to hear that you are having bleeding. It is very worrying, especially at the weekend when there is probably no way of getting scanned. Unless you live in london where one of the hospitals apparently has a 24/7 walk in EPU.
What sort of bleeding are you having? This will most likely give you your answer. It's good that you aren't having cramps though. If the bleeding is heavy and very clotty, that is less good than if it is light red spotting.

Many people have some light bleeding and it turns out ok for them. I have had two miscarriages with no prior bleeding whatsoever.

Good luck at your scan on Monday, I really hope that everything will be fine.

Thanks....the bleeding I'm having is just like a normal period, I know I would have been due about now, but it doesn't seem to be easing off!! it's horrid not knowing what is going on. Unfortunately I don't live in London.

Sorry to hear of your previous loss. With this pregnancy it could just be breakthrough bleeding if it is around the time your period would be due. It could go either way. There are plenty of women who have bleeding in the first trimester and all is well. But obviously it could be the start signs of a miscarriage. My 7weeks + miscarriages, once they have started, they have become heavy with clots quite quickly. The absence of clots and cramps is a hopeful sign. I hope all is well and that you manage to get some reassurance soon.

Hello! I'm also 42, 7 weeks pregnant and bleeding. We are not alone! I had a scan at 7 weeks exactly (last wednesday) which found no heartbeat, but I've remained hopeful as it's early days to see a heartbeat. However my spotting has turned into heavier bleeding and light cramps so it's not looking so good- damn! I had acupuncture on friday, with moxibustion (new to me- a heat therapy in this case to stop uterine bleeding). Still clinging on to hope, but it's fading. Tried over a year for this one & would be my 3rd mc since age of 40 :( . All I can say to you is that we managed to get pregnant, we are still fertile, and can try again if it all goes wrong. I so feel for you- if anyone can right now it's me. Good luck- sending loads of good vibes and hugs.

hi all thanks for kind messages....I'm afraid to say I lost it yesterday afternoon :-( It wasn't pleasant but mc never is, but least I know & in a strange way it was a relief, as I didn't want to have to go through another op. It's hard to think I was so happy and proud to be pregnant and now it has been taken away again. Least the sun is shining today. I'm sorry to hear butterybisuitbass your news, but I hope this time round you have better luck and it stays there. It's also nice to hear that I'm not only the only one wanting a baby at 42! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and hugs back to you too xx

Hello twinklenose I miscarried yesterday too. 7 weeks and I am 42 in August. I had a mc in January too. My symptoms were much stronger this time so was so surprised on Friday when I started bleeding. I am very sad & just want to be pregnant again asap.

Dear Twinkenose and Panashe, I miscarried last night. You know what, I'm just having trouble accepting that at 42 I may be too old, damn it! Where did the time go? Me too Panashe, I just want to be in the throes of a healthy pregnancy for once. Although, Twinkenose, I'm with you on it being a relief, all that speculation on whether you'll lose the baby or not drives you mad, it is no way to live. A mate of mine had her second child at 43 and there are many more success stories- lets stay positive. Take it easy and best of luck to you both xxx

Hi panashe,,,sorry to hear your news as well. Its horrid this, it has made me question whether I want to go through all this again; the worry is manic. I mc in May had one period then fell again. You just feel the old time clock is ticking away and this is your last chance! Silly really. I'm still bleeding, I know the sac etc has come out, just don't know how long the bleeding will last.... a quick recovery to you too xx

Trying again is a positive step and holding onto hope! which you should never give up on! no matter how old you are!!! your body will stop letting off eggs when it wants to!!!!

twinkenose and butterybiscuitbase how are you both today ? I've been awake from 5 with back ache and cramps. I am still bleeding quite a lot. I lay there thinking about age and how heartbreaking it will be to commit to another year or even two of tcc and have no baby at the end. I am lucky I already have dc, but have a new dp and we want a baby together.

I am very resigned to the bumpy ride and I am certain I want to carry on. I always said to myself if I had three mc I would stop and say enough is enough, now I've had two, it would mean the next time would be the last chance....so I think maybe I should go by my age and stop at 44 when from what I've read the chances of conceiving with your own eggs is minimal. And in the meantime accept each new pregnancy is a chance of a good egg, and keep in mind there are thousands of ladies having babies at our age

sorry to hear you lost yours too butterybiscuit. Stressful times.
I'm off to the hospital still in a bit, hopefully they will let me know that all has come away and I don't need to come back. Maybe too they will tell me something positive and that there is no reason why I can't try again! 3rd time lucky as they say!

I hadn't even been to the doctors to tell them I was pregnant, but I know my epu need a referral from gp before they scan me. I can't face that at the moment and might wait until the end of the week so I hopefully only have to go once. I think if I go today they will want to see me in a week to make sure there are no retained products.

Thank you Mama5isalive, for your supportive message, it definitely helped as you do wonder if it is madness to carry on trying. But as you say so long as there's a chance, why not do something positive?

Thanks also Twinkenose and Panashe. I went for acupuncture yesterday and she reminded me that 3 seems to be the magic number with the medical profession in terms of numbers of miscarriage, and they will startv to listen, ie. be more investigative so long as you stay on top of them. I was already on cyclogest and asprin and had had bloods and genetic compatibility tests, so I don't know where else we can go, but there may be something.

Meanwhile I'm so grateful for my darling DS, so life is good! Happy days

By the way ladies, I'd found re bleeding, since I was on asprin to thin the blood, it was so much more bearable this time, less heavy clotting and a lot lighter and manageable. The only heavy bit was the sac- perhaps talk to your GP about that as I obviously can't tell you to take it?!

To all you wonderful brave ladies. This is my first time on mn and I found you. I think it was meant to be. I had my little boy in my mid forties and he is now 4. There is 19 years between him and his sister. Don't ever think it is too late or you are too old. One day the time will be right for all of you. Don't try too hard to get there. Hi all! How r u all today? Well I'm on my long commute home from work. I went in today now wondering if that was such a good idea as I'm in extreme pain and still passing huge clots, is this normal?? I had it all removed last time. The hospital said everything had gone and looked healthy in there! So what's with the pain?! I feel that everything is being pulled downwards. Isn't it just lovely being a woman!!! It is so lovely to hear that u r not alone out there. Iv never experienced mc before this year and I never really understood what people go through, I am thankful that I have 2 healthy kids already but I would still love to b blessed with a 3rd. It's also nice to see that I'm not the only mad 40+ woman out there wanting another child and realising that I'm not a minority.
If I decide to try again I'll try out taking aspirin anything is worth a go! In the meantime I'm going to enjoy the rest of the summer knowing that I now can have a glass of Pimms!! X

twinken and buttery, just thought I'd pop in to say that I am 42 and now six months pregnant so it is possible! I was carrying twins but lost one at 7 weeks, didn't know at the time that there was more than one in there so thought I had miscarried altogether.
Fingers crossed you get sticky beans the next time!

Oh, and Twinken, take it easy! Don't go to work tomorrow if you are passing clots. You could get weak and pass out! Rest up!

I know it can be a mixed feeling to hear positive stories when your own miscarriage is raw, but I know that it did help me to keep on trying. I had three miscarriages in two years after my first baby, had nearly decided to give up having been told that my chances were low due to age and low fertility, was reading up all the positives on only children (there are many). I have never been so anxious as in the early days of my last pregnancy - but in February, at 43, gave birth to a lovely healthy girl. There really can be hope, give yourself lots of time and care, and good luck.

Twinkenose I also overdid it too today, I think combined with the heat too- felt very weak, passed clots and felt strained across the lower tummy. But we are women, what else can we do?! Try to take a sickie tomorrow as chipmonkey suggested! And yes, as for positives they come partly in the shape of glasses of wine and strong coffees- for a little while at least.

hopingtoo, hi- these positive stories are great. Perversely, I feel weird when I see pregnant women and babies, though naturally I am pleased it's working out for them- strange emotions- I suppose as you say it's just the rawness of it. I LOVE the end of your story. You do indeed give me hope. I'll have to come back to you about coping with being a new mum at 43!

Hi ladies - just reading your messages and my heart goes out to you all - I am 41 and just found out i'm 5 weeks pregnant, had a smc in dec 10 so very anxious about this one - also have a lovely 9yr old son. It's so hard just to try to carry on as normal and not stress about mc - I am not going to go to docs just yet as when I did this last time at 6 weeks I was sent for an early scan cos of my age and then as it was 'inconclusive' we had a few weeks of agony waiting to see if little one had a heartbeat - sadly at 10 weeks I was told it had died around 8 weeks and had ERPC week before christmas, really don't want to put myself thru that stress again so will leave booking in appt til 8 weeks I think. Good luck to all you lovely ladies who have experienced life - nicer than the term 'older' I think. :0)

I went for a scan today and lining is more or less back to normal and so I think the worse is over for me after a couple of really crappy days.

I am on a really good conception thread for 40+ ladies and it is very supportive and very welcoming for all tcc and we have a couple of ladies pregnant too Pamelaaaa ( are you a gavin & Stacey fan ?? )

Hope all are feeling well today - my days seem to be passing very slowly, even tho i'm busy at work! Just want a few more weeks to pass feeling great and I will be able to relax a little.... yes Panashe, my friends now call me that thanks to Gavin & Stacey.. lol x

Hi all. How r u all doing? Well I feel I survived the week starting to feel normal again (whatever that is!). It does feel very strange one minute you are pg then the next you aren't. And you keep asking yourself why me?? I have kept myself very busy at work which helps the wondering mind!& my DP has been wonderful.
Pamelaaaa ....I'm glad to hear you are keeping in there, it's horrid the waiting game to make sure all is ok. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you

Another positive story here. I had naturally concieved twin girls at 42. They are now 3years old, and i find myself 16 week pregnant at 45! We SO werent trying!!! Its a bit of a shock actually, but I will go with the flow and hope for a happy out come. Had an amnio on thursday and the prelim results are clear for the common trisomy conditions, so, so far so good. They also told me at the hospital that i was NOT the oldest patient in town, not by a long chalk, so there is loads of hope for people at 41/42/43, positively young things!
