Two week period- and going!

MadamePewter · 28/12/2019 10:59

I’m fifty. Up til now periods pretty much regular as clockwork, though very heavy

Got this one a week early and still going, though not heavy, two weeks later 😱

Is this menopause..? Anyone else had this?

@madame pewter yes I've been to GP who sent me for a scan which turned up nothing apart from a small fibroid.

Breathmiller · 24/02/2020 10:53

Thanks MadamPewter

My doctor is going to phone me back today and I'm going to ask her about that.
I am still bleeding but feel so much better in myself today and am able to function.

It may all be coincidence of course but I have been taking ibuprofen, vit b12 vit6 vit C tablets. My iron is low and I'm getting iron tablets from the doctor according to the receptionist.

I've also had a restful day yesterday and been eating lots of iron rich healthy foods as well as some lovely restoring yoga and meditati practices.

I hope everyone has a better day today.

Breathmiller · 24/02/2020 14:59

I just posted on my thread (by accident Grin) with this..

I have had a good result from my doctor. She is usually really good so I shouldn't be surprised.

She agrees that hormone treatment is not the way forward as I am clearly very sensitive to it. I had issues with the pill when in my early 20s on it and it put me off and then this extreme reaction last week to Norethisterone.

So, I am going in to collect my prescription for tranexamic acid and iron tablets. And she has already referred me for a scan.

I'm very pleased with the outcome today.

And I am feeling a lot better as well anyway. My bleeding has lightened ever so slightly and I have energy and feeling lighter mood wise.

Thank you all for your support. I will stay on this thread and update.

tibni · 24/02/2020 17:49

I've booked to work from home tomorrow so I can get to GP. Day of dashing to loo every hour with multiple levels of protection just isn't manageable. Black trousers, black long cardigan look today. Working from home not really approved of but I told rather than asked. Also only just worked over 8 hours which is a short day for me but I feel dire.
So will brace the 8am appointment rush and try and see a different Gp. Week till my scans at hospital and counting!

MadamePewter · 24/02/2020 18:00

@Breathmiller that all sounds really positive.

@tibni That sounds awful..but perfectly reasonable. I couldn’t have gone to work with the post drugs full flow. Hope you get to see a helpful doctor tomorrow.

Breathmiller · 24/02/2020 18:28

tibni
Yes, I agree. Very hard to manage work while thats going on.

Just the faff of having to get changed constantly is hard enough without the added part of feeling wiped out.

I hope you manage to navigate the morning appointment debacle and get a productive outcome from the doctors.

tibni · 24/02/2020 19:29

@MadamePewter I had no choice today, but at least it was an office day, somedays I am in court or at professional meetings which are harder to manage
@Breathmiller I've my fingers crossed I will get an appointment. It's a very strange group we all belong to. My DJ suggested that I speak to our dd when she's home as this seems to be the last taboo and as mum, sister and now I have had issues she should be warned!

Breathmiller · 24/02/2020 19:41

Yes, it's strange how it is still a taboo.

I'm quite lucky that I work around people and have adult daughters that are all quite open about it.

Even my 16 year old son yesterday was looking up natural ways to increase progesterone for me. I was very proud of him.
He will periodically come through and talk about phyto-oestrogens and suggest a food that is iron rich. He's a natural researcher. He is knee deep in research about how to help me. In between doing the hoovering and making me cups of green tea. Grin

Even the 8 year old boy has also been using it as a biology lesson on the female reproductive system.

MadamePewter · 24/02/2020 19:47

Oh @tibni it’s so bloody difficult.

And @Breathmiller, how lovely your boys sound. Mine does a sympathetic pat and flees 😂

OP posts:
Breathmiller · 24/02/2020 19:52

Ahh...don't be fooled. There's still an element of grunting going on. Grin

tibni · 24/02/2020 20:33

My ds is complex disabled so sometimes his affection can be a tad painful but it makes my day. My dd is currently studying year 3 of her degree abroad, we are very close but I don't want to worry her.
Dh is my rock.
@Breathmiller @MadamePewter your children sound amazing

Breathmiller · 24/02/2020 20:46

tibni hurray for husbands thst rock.

One of my daughters studied abroad for her 3rd year. I understand that being close but not wanting to worry her. Is she enjoying it?

MadamePewter · 24/02/2020 21:18

Although I have a lovely man, I’m a single parent which makes everything really hard: it’s difficult to be responsible for everything whilst all this is going on. Plus I’m anxious about what on earth is going to happen when I get surgery, and I only get paid for the days I actually work so worried about no income too...

OP posts:
tibni · 24/02/2020 21:30

@Breathmiller she is loving it. Planning to go visit her April/ May time.
Has anyone tried period pants? Googling and just not sure what to go for. Whatever they say I will not be wearing them alone Shock but thinking about a bit of added security.

tibni · 25/02/2020 11:30

Lovely gp, new tablets Provera. Additional blood tests ordered and wants me to get smear booked in while I'm having these tablets to stop bleeding.
I actually had to request and confirm that I was happy to see male GP due to personal nature of problem. Told them having seen the female GP previously I didn't want to see her again! I get why they offer female but I just want this sorting. Male GP was excellent but has told me that I will probably be a regular until we have it sorted. Possible further hospital appointments and investigations required but he will ensure that I'm comfortable and able to live while it's going on Smile
He did say he needs to rule out nasty underlying cause hence additional blood tests.

MadamePewter · 25/02/2020 12:42

@tibni great news 😊

TheYearOfTheDog · 26/02/2020 22:18

Hi all, @Breathmiller welcome to the club! wish it was a better club but still, it is reassuring knowing that others are experiencing these things.

I still have the provera box from when I was given 10 days' worth to stop flooding back in January, and I noticed that each tablet on that 10 day course was a much higher dose than each pill in the 31 day packet. 10 mg per day for the 10 day course as opposed to 750 mcg per day for being on the pill.

So my understanding of mcg and mg is not expansive I admit, but just wanted to highlight that in case flooding returns for any of you who have ruled out going on the pill becasue the 10 day course gave you feelings of dread and anxiety.

The dose per day is much lower if you're just taking it as a normal one a day for 31 days pill, as I am now.

I'm on day 10 of Azalia now, I feel pretty relieved. No bleeding at all, and I was warned there could be some if the uterus wall thins as a result of being on progesterone pill.

But so far, no problems at all, no stress, no bleeding, no headaches.
I did the online shop and didn't buy sanitary towels for the first time in AGES. Wow.
I feel like I have this issue sorted before I turn 50 too so that's great.

TheYearOfTheDog · 26/02/2020 22:43

Funny, reading sons suggesting food sources of phyto-oestrogens!
my son who is nearly fourteen will not grow up to be a man who is scared of a period! Between my daughter and me, there have been pads and tampons every where and endless discussions about periods and how we're feeling with the assumption that if he hears he hears.

My Dad would have coughed and rustled the newspaper loudly.

Llareggub · 26/02/2020 22:51

I’m glad I came across you lot. I have a CT scan on Friday, which was arranged after an ultrasound showed up a fluid filled cyst. I’d been to the GP regarding my heavy periods and crazy PMT.

The GP prescribed Cerelle, which resulted in a two month bleed. I’m now iron deficient (and vit D) so taking a script for that. I’m a bit worried about Friday but trying not to google.

I’ve been very fortunate in my experience with my GP. Appointments the same day, scans being arranged promptly and doctors who have taken me seriously.

I’ve been on tranexamic acid for years. I saw a GP about depression years ago following my divorce and randomly he asked if I had heavy periods. When I said yes he prescribed them and I’ve been on them ever since.

I thought I was in peri (I’m 45) but they seem to think it is something called PMDD. I have PCOS and I’m of the opinion it’s all hormone related and if I can educate myself I might get somewhere. Thanks to the iron and vitamin D deficiencies I am exhausted all the time and can barely make it out of bed.

Being a woman definitely sucks. The US scan was pretty interesting. I’ve had two babies and loads of scans and never knew I had a retroverted uterus.

MadamePewter · 26/02/2020 23:31

I just got a notification from my period tracker.. “your period could start anytime in the next two weeks” Exciting!!

OP posts:
Topseyt · 27/02/2020 15:02

Ha, I would have snorted at that period tracker. How about saying that it hardly ever goes away instead!!

I seem to have started bleeding again. It stopped for all of ten days and is now back with a vengeance. For how long, I do not know.

Interestingly, there is now another thread going from and OP whose gynaecologist seems to be trying to refuse to do a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic unless she agrees to have a mirena inserted at the same time!!

Why do they only ever tout he mirena as the solution to everything? Rarely anything else.

MadamePewter · 27/02/2020 22:06

Oh no, @Topseyt, that’s rubbish.

And that thread! I must make it clear at my pre op that I am not getting a Mirena. Though the evil doctor did not mention it in his letter to the GP, interestingly.

tibni · 03/03/2020 10:29

Test day for me, so far I've had bloods and smear. Even though I've had a week of meds to stop bleeding the nurse said the smear has restarted the bleeding and I may get spotting again.
2 scans in hospital later today.
I've booked a flexi day but have my laptop if I am inclined to do a bit of work.
Boiler totally died and today is first day plumber can fit another so I have decamped to one of my oldest friends and neighbours house while he is at work. He's my DC's godfather and confirmed bachelor so I'm doing a bit of cleaning to take my mind off all this and will have a bath here before the scans this afternoon.

MadamePewter · 03/03/2020 11:17

Oh @tibni what a week! Good luck with rest of scans. I felt better just to know what it was after mine.

OP posts:
tibni · 03/03/2020 12:03

Thanks @MadamePewter. Bleeding isn't too bad from smear but enough to feel uncomfortable - but at least it's done.
I need solutions now, I just can't operate at work the way I've been. Scans are next step to finding a solution 😊
