and I want to meet some of you

I'm there for 2 weeks, and am quite happy (and actually want to so that the DS's can see some other bits of Scotland other than Edinburgh) to hop on a train for an hour or so to do it.........

I know it's a long way off..........but thought if I started asking early I might get lucky and find one of you that I know (or even one I don't ) that was up for a meet-up...........

really

I'm so excited about coming up for 2 whole (well nearly it's actually the 2nd-14th) weeks with the boys.

This time it's a holiday rather than last time 2yrs ago when it was "I need some space to clear my head" (1st time H and I split)

lol - something like that.

Staying with my brother right out on the edge of Edinburgh, and intend to spend most of the first week (before the Fringe starts) doing other stuff - visiting friends of mine up there, meeting MNers, etc etc.

Then I have an old school friend who I added on FB ages ago but recently started chatting to loads more and she's going to be there - and is apparently going to have loads of free tickets for stuff (she has "contacts" ) so she's said I can have some so we can go watch some stufff and leave at the interval when the boys get bored without feeling guilty about having wasted money

If they misbehave I may send them off to join the circus

And I don't mind londenerrs on the pull - I'm single again don't forget........who knows the divorce may even been through by then (and london is much to me than Edinburgh so a nice Scotsman would be a bit inconvenient)

haha - that's true - just I'm not on the main-line to Scotland, I have to change twice before I get on the East Coast line.....bit of a PITA with 3 DS's to drag along.

Thanks - am just having coffee before I plough on and finish packing.

You can visit me. Glasgow is lovely!!!

ToccataAndFudge · 06/03/2010 08:07

although having said that.......the only place I'd ever consider moving to when the boys are still young/at school is Edinburgh

Actually I wish I could import the Scottish education system in my boys schools.

I went to school in Edinburgh and did Standard Grades, Highers and CSYS's

Didn't stop me getting offered places at good Universities not having "A levels" - and I really REALLY loved the fact that I got to study a broader range of subjects post 16yrs old. >

Never went to Glasgow much when I was at school in Edinburgh (we were pretty much free to do what we wanted at the weekends, unsupervised), applied for University there (and was offered a place) - but turned it down for Edinburgh (And then never went lol)

Toccata, I'm right out on the edge of Edinburgh too (south, so your brother is bound to be north ).

ToccataAndFudge · 06/03/2010 09:26

no he's south as well.......

not far from the Infirmary

Me too, but I arrive on 13th August.

weegiemum · 06/03/2010 09:32

Sensing a "meet the non-scottish mnetters summer meet-up" in August. Hooray!!!!

Schools here are back about 16th I think.

ToccataAndFudge · 06/03/2010 09:33

yes it's the 16th Weegies (I know this as my brother works in a before/after school club so checked the term dates before we decided on the dates to make sure he wasn't going to be working every day we were there.

Although I'll go off and do stuff just with the boys would be nice as we're staying with their Uncle if he comes along as well for bits

ToccataAndFudge · 06/03/2010 09:35

my brother is an "adopted" Scot - he's been up there for, ermmm, gosh must be getting on for 15/16yrs now (although was in Peterhead and Lossiemouth for a while before moving to Edinburgh).

He's a proper Yorkshire man that never lost his accent when we move "darn sarf" when we were kids so I think he's considered "Northern" enough to be accepted

weegiemum · 06/03/2010 09:37

T&F there is a fab bunch of Glasgow Meet-Up MNetters who I am sure would arrange to meet with you.

Even if not then I will - have 3 kids always keen to have people here in the summer to play (are 8 mins on train from Glasgow Central). Ours are 10, 8, 6 - think yours are younger but mine love little 'uns!

ToccataAndFudge · 06/03/2010 09:39

weegie - mine are 9,6 and nearly 3 - though the older 2 will be much closer to 10 (eeek!) and 7 by August.

The 3yr old is very confident (and scarily articulate lol) so loves the attention from older children

you can come and see me

ToccataAndFudge · 06/03/2010 09:41

ooo where are you -you're sort of rural aren't you (not that that's a problem of course - so long as there's public transport from Edinburgh to get there)
