This is making me grateful that mine came at 38 weeks (induction) and 35 weeks (massive, massive surprise) respectively. How are you doing Leggy?

StealthPolarBear · 20/08/2010 21:25

ah sorry this seems not to be a good time to say I found this thread just to see if Leggy had had the baby yet Blush

EasilyConfusedIndith · 22/08/2010 09:31

but she hasn't been back yet

LeggyBlondeNE · 22/08/2010 14:07

She's still here. MW tried and failed to do a membrane sweep today because damn cervix is too far back.

She's talking induction at +12 (Thursday) but I've decided to resist until Saturday. It'll be much easier to be resigned to it and not get worked up if I know I've given the home birth full opportunity to happen...

LeggyBlondeNE · 22/08/2010 14:21

hm, only my sister-in-law has said that hospitals rarely schedule inductions for weekends due to lower staff levels and the safety implications thereof... hm...

FrozenNorth · 22/08/2010 18:52

I managed to hold them off on the induction til Friday, then it ended up being monday because as you say they don't tend to schedule them on weekends. Would you be happy to go to +16?

Chocaholica · 22/08/2010 18:55

Hi Leggy, I really feel your pain. I was in such a sulk by the time I was induced that I kept stomping off on walks intended to make baby uncomfortable and decide to come and ended up falling over on a frosty path (winter baby) and terrifying myself! I had a sweep at 41 weeks and then a show but nothing came of it. At the RVI they induce usually at 40+14 or thereabouts - I was induced at 40+13. No idea about the weekend thing - worth finding out? When will you see the mw again?

About induction. I know you want to avoid it at all costs and I REALLY hope you do. But if it comes to it, I had read endless horrendous reports about it. I had the first dose of pessaries and within hours I was dilating and it wasn't so bad; I was bouncing on the hospital's ball and it was going okay. (Ended up as emergency section but that wasnt caused by induction per se and I wouldnt have needed the drip, etc).

Try not to give up on it happening naturally beforehand though- I think I did, I just assumed it never would happen and thus more or less invited induction...

Oh and good luck. Have fingers crossed for a speedily descending baby and dilating cervix.

FrozenNorth · 22/08/2010 19:15

(Just wanted to add, in agreement with Chocoholica, that my induction went completely smoothly, 6 hours from waters broken (no pessary as at 4cm already) to baby, so it doesn't have to mean a cascade of interventions). No doctors involved at all, just one fabulous midwife. Obviously I hope that it all goes off naturally for you though!)

LeggyBlondeNE · 22/08/2010 21:22

As my mum pointed out earlier, it would be +17 if I didn't do it on Friday, as there's the bank holiday, and no I'm not comfortable risking that as my due date is an estimate based on scan with no pre-conception cycle to support it as I got pregnant so quickly (although it agrees with the digital test I took way back.)

If there's any error in the due date then it's in the late direction so I do want to limit it to +14. Which I guess means holding out for Friday...

Thanks for the reassurance ladies. In the meantime will follow Indith's example (as I recall her saying) and keep bouncing...

StealthPolarBear · 22/08/2010 21:25

Keeping my fingers crossed that you have your baby by Friday (and chance is on your side :))

Chocaholica · 22/08/2010 21:45

Leggy, yes Friday sounds like a good deadline to set. And Stealth is right - chances are things'll get going before then. Happy bouncing. Well done for sounding so calm and collected!

foxytocin · 22/08/2010 23:13

you can call up your midwife early this week and request 'expectant management'. It means that every couple of days or so you get a doppler scan to see how the placenta is functioning. If the placenta is fine, the baby is fine. Especially re what you said wrt no cycle to back up scan date. You may find the baby is covered in vernix when she or he pops out. I was supposedly 10 days overdue with my dd2 but in reality I knew that I was no more than 7 days. The amount of vernix confirmed that for me.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/08/2010 07:53

Juney - have just seen an earlier message about your migraines. I was on beta blockers for them and they did work! But no drinking or TTCing with them, so had to come off them as DH and I are trying for DC2.

Hope you all had a good night out!

ButterpieBride · 23/08/2010 08:05

Can anyone recommend the following shops/stalls (pref in washy or newcastle, must be on a good bus/metro route):

Haberdashery
Cheese
Makeup
Bra/Corset
Weddingy crap (balloons or ribbons or something)
Breast pump (cheap, my electric one has broken, but I don't think I'll need one much longer as she is going longer between feeds)
Fish- namely a big salmon because I love them
Disposable camera development (no point getting them if they will cost a fortune to develop)
Ink cartridges
Plastic wine/champagne glasses for less than 10p a glass or for 10p a glass but really nice.

I have a...large event...on saturday and need the last few things but have left it a bit late for my usual solution of ebay.

:D

StealthPolarBear · 23/08/2010 08:42

Shock and :o Kara!!
BpB,, have just given my old breastpump to another MNer, so annoying!
plastic wine glasses - boyes??
Indoor market in durham is good for haberdashery and probably wedding crap, fish & cheese - maybe
Are you getting excited?

ButterpieBride · 23/08/2010 08:47

I'm REALLY excited!
Although we have lost 10% of our guests over the weekend as they are all too skint to travel. Should have thought of that before we booked our wedding for the end of the month, really.

Are there any ring sling shops around? I was planning on just tying my wedding pashmina thing, but I have fallen in love with my ring sling now. It is bright blue though, pretty much the only colour that really won't go.

StealthPolarBear · 23/08/2010 08:54

oh no!!
Not sure about ring sling shops, but are there any MNers you could borrow from? Or do you want one permanently?

foxytocin · 23/08/2010 09:08

join naturalmamas.co.uk and put out an ISO for a dressy-up ring sling you will get enough offers I think to make a choice and get it before the weekend.

you can also join UKbabywearingSWAP yahoo group and do the same lots of people cross post there too.

2nd hand is also cheaper but doesn't mean looking cheap.

LeggyBlondeNE · 23/08/2010 09:35

BP - JohnLewis in NL has a good haberdashery section. I got all my weddingy stuff (balloons, sprinkles, sugared almonds) online from Celebrations but I don't know how quickly they deliver.

I don't know if it's on a bus route, but Dainty Supplies in Washington is also good for such bits and pieces. They have a website but do much more of a range in shop. Could be worth a taxi ride?

For make-up go to Boots or a department store and get the ladies on the desks to give you a make-over to help you choose. A friend did that at Benefit but you may want something cheaper like No. 7!

I usually get plastic champagne glasses from Tescos now that Woolies is gone, but I can't remember the price. You can hire glasses and return them dirty from some places for about 10p per glass...

Thanks KST! And Grin at TTC no. 2!!!!

OP posts:
KaraStarbuckThrace · 23/08/2010 10:31

Yes I recommend Dainty Supplies, they are excellent!
Debenhams are good for bras and corsets.

EasilyConfusedIndith · 23/08/2010 11:16

Could you risk figleaves for bras?
For most of the rest I'd just go round Grainger Market, it seems to have everything! Or if you came into Durham there is an excellent cheese place at the market.

At the moment if you spend £5 in Boots you get a voucher for No7 make up so get £5 of make up, get your voucher then get the rest Grin

Leggy how frustrating. If it helps in any way with ds when the MW tried to do a sweep at 41 weeks all she could do was twiddle it around a bit. There was absolutely no sign at all of anything going on! Do you go to aquanatal at all? swimming is good, if only to take the weight off a bit. I went to the class on the wednesday, the lovely MW who ran it made us do lots of bouncing and 5am Thurs ds was born :). Of course in reality all you can do is relax and accept it. As others have said, not all inductions are bad.

LeggyBlondeNE · 23/08/2010 21:13

Hm... aquanatal is tomorrow and I'll probably be awaiting MW at that time ... but I could go down and bounce around in my own time...! Currently doing at least 2 hours a day on the ball though!

Butterpie - it also occurs to me that I have some bits and pieces of unused make-up I'd be happy to pass on depending on what you're after. Of course you'd have to get it off me sooner than later!

LeggyBlondeNE · 24/08/2010 11:01

Cervix is still closed, sweep couldn't be done, and I'm pencilled in for induction on Friday afternoon.

Still bouncing...
