Hi all, Just found your thread, I'm an older first time mum Dec 64. Quite surprised so many of us as whenever I have asked for any older mums out there (not this website), nobody replied, was getting quite a complex for a while.
Anyway love being a mum and have got over the wake up during the night stage DS is 14 months now and so precious he has been wanted for 10 long years and finally he arrived. Kept telling everyone that we must have read the instruction manual wrong for all that time.

spidermama · 03/03/2006 20:28

Hi. I would be joining you ladies but, you see, I'm nowhere near old enough. I'm not forty until .... Ooooh .... the beginging of April. (gulp!)

spidermama · 03/03/2006 20:28

And I still can't spell begining. Grin

brimfull · 03/03/2006 20:40

mim64,hi we waited 10 yrs for ds aswell,quite a shock isn't it!?

mim64 · 04/03/2006 09:17

Hi ggirl, Yes it was, when we lived in Germany we had several treatments of artificial insemination and icsi but they didn't work. When we returned to England we did consider treatment here but it worked out double of what we were paying in Germany, then in 2003 fell pregnant naturally but miscarried at 8 weeks and I thought thats it my one chance gone. Then exactly a year later fell pregnant again which resulted in my lovely son. I think I probably cope with some things abit better at this age but I not perfect by any means we both try to enjoy ds and give him the best, I don't mean material things but love and attention.

Novembergirl · 04/03/2006 14:55

Hi ladies,

Wonder if I might join this thread? My qualifications? Well, I'm a Nov 62 baby (who is still very young at heart) with a 13 month old son!

Cristina7 · 04/03/2006 15:16

Hello. I turned 40 a few weeks ago. I have a 6 y.o. DS and a 1 y.o. DD. I feel young, though.

janeyhills · 04/03/2006 15:49

Cristina7 · 04/03/2006 19:17

Janey - my DH is 5.5 years younger than me!

milquetoast · 06/03/2006 20:26

hello - no doubt that I qualify for this thread. 5/61 with a 1.5 year old! I usually feel young but so tired by evening, sigh. Am very very happy.

Arabica · 06/03/2006 21:26

I'm not the oldest any more! Yippee! (Sept 61; DS, 4; 18+5 with baby 2)

Steppy1 · 07/03/2006 18:52

...I'm a September 63... have two childred DS (5) and DD (3) so left becoming a mum 'til late. If you wanted somewhere central to meet up (and the chance to party like us 40 somethings know how to !) maybe Funky mamas might be of interest....it's something I run in Wiltshire... 150 - 200 mainly women come along to party the night away....if interested check out www.funkymamas.co.uk

lilibet · 07/03/2006 18:59

I'm another 63er. May 63

Arabica · 07/03/2006 23:26

Steppy1, your nights out look like fun. But--is it my 40+ eyesight or is there a huge bosom in the picture on your homepage?

joelalie · 08/03/2006 11:29

I'm 41 so I think I qualify Smile I've got 3 kids, 9, 6 and 3 (just).

goldenoldie · 08/03/2006 11:56

Looks fab, but a bit far for me - London based.

jen333 · 10/03/2006 11:33

Hi
Surely there's another new mother out there aged 48 ... or over!!????

Had my first suspect comment yesterday whilst shopping. Shop keeper .... "she's quite tall for her age - how tall are her parents?". I'm afraid I was a bit tongue tied and hummed and haaad until admitting that I was the mum and risking the shop keepers embarassment.
Love being an older Mum (and being a Mum again after all these years - 21 year gap)! It's like having two lives for the price of one!

jen333 · 10/03/2006 11:36

Arabica - huge engorged mammory gland you mean :o

Auntymandy · 10/03/2006 11:38

Iam 40! How come /i only just saw this thread?
I have ds15, dd13, ds11, ds3 and ds 17months

jen333 · 10/03/2006 13:30

Hi AuntyMandy you spring chicken you!
Do you feel you're treated any differently to (even) younger mums? Are there plenty of older mothers where you are? Mums under mid 30s seem to be a rarity here (N London). How were you treated during your pregnancy? I was expecting a lot of fuss - not one bit of it, infact I was more or less left alone during labour ... until things got a bit stuck!

Auntymandy · 10/03/2006 21:00

I dont think I was treated differently. Some of the risks were pointed out and duly ignored!!!
My friends range from 28 to 48!!!
Think age is just a number!
Dh is 28!

jen333 · 11/03/2006 16:31

I was just expecting a lot of fuss - but not one bit of it ... only difference was that I was not allowed to give birth in the birthing centres here - where you are given more attention in pleasant surroundings and the chance of a water birth (age limit of 42 I think). I ended up in a grotty room with a midwife who didn't talk to us Also, I had a nucal scan.
I too have friends of all ages, it's great to have older friends with grown up children and those with babies too.

maltesers · 12/03/2006 12:17
