El - I'm expecting Twins in December - which will make me 42. Any advice - apart from keeping my legs closed - too late for that!

chipmonk · 29/05/2005 18:35

Hi Goldenoldie! Congratulations! I think the best bit of advice I can give is to make sure you have plenty of help and support. Tucker is almost ten months old and I am still extremely knackered all the time. I didn't/don't have any family to help out and also got glandular fever shortly after he was born (with infected section, not fun) and my dh had to go back to work early on. Really draining with a 2 1/2 year old (he's 3 now) and a newborn. Put your feet up whenever you can. And another bit and I think is so important because we all forget or don't make time to do it, is to make sure you still have some time to yourself each day, even ten or fifteen minutes where you can take off your Mummy or Wife hat and just be you. You take very good care of yourself and keep us posted on how you are doing! Karen x

Lollyloo · 29/05/2005 19:55

Hi Karen, Poor Tucker, being itchy is bad enough for us grown ups to cope with but I'm glad to hear the spots are going! Poor you having to get up at 5.30am! Do you have time for a nap in the day? I've been lucky recently as Laura has been sleeping through until 8am, Yay! We've had some pretty rotten nights with her especially when she's been teething and as she's still breastfed, it's always me who has to get up with her!
Blimey I'm can't remember when my other 2 had tantrums and what they were like, it's so long ago. They'll be 19 and 17 old next month!
Congratulations Goldenoldie, good advice from Karen. It IS difficult to get time to yourself I know but it is important. Take good care of yourself and your little beanies and the best of luck to you for the future!
Angie x

Hi
Congrats Goldenoldie! My cousin had twins and says they're double the work but more than double the fun of one baby! She swears by TAMBA (Twins and multiple Birth Assoc.) as a really helpful resource - hope that there is a group near you.

goldenoldie · 30/05/2005 18:17

El - thanks I've seen the Tamba website - I will check for a local branch.

joash · 30/05/2005 18:52

HEY how come all you mums born in '63 have young children?
Mine are 24, 21, 15 and my GS is 2 1/2 - makes me feel ancient.

Lollyloo · 30/05/2005 21:20

Joash, I was born in '63 and have 2 older kids who are 19 and 17 next month as well as my little un who's 9 months and yeah I feel ancient too sometimes!

joash · 30/05/2005 22:07
  • not just me then?
chipmonk · 30/05/2005 22:49

joash I am a 65er and have a 20 and 18year olds and then 3 and 10 months! I have felt ancient for the past three years! And the thought that I have two out there who could make me a Grammie, is well, I don't want to think about it!

joash · 30/05/2005 22:51

DOn't know how you all do it - it took me over a year to get used to having another baby to look after.

Lollyloo · 31/05/2005 21:39

I must admit, I don't find it a doddle having a baby at my age Joash, feel about 90 today, my little un is teething again and didn't sleep much last night. Oh the joys of motherhood!

helsy · 16/09/2005 13:46

So, how do we all feel about defying nature then? Sure there'll be lots of opinions on MN today about the news that older mothers are risking their and their babies health, what I'm really getting wound up about is this idea that we all CHOSE to have babies later - I think one reporter referred to women "choosing to wait until they find the right partner" - ah, so I should have stuck with that turnip I met when I was 23 just to have babies at the right age?

unicorn · 16/09/2005 14:05

turnip ! lol helsy!!!!
quite agree though.
The thought of having kids with some of my younger 'conquests' er... doesn't bear thinking about.

savanna · 22/09/2005 21:01

Hello

I'm new to MN and am glad to have found this thread. I had my first baby at 41 almost 6 months ago.

Helsey, I was also riled by the newspaper report that states that all older mothers chose to have their babies later. Between the jerks and the commitment-shy men I dated in the past, I didn't have much of a choice.

So we are defying nature? What about 60-something men who father children with much younger women? I won't go there.

Since this thread is in the Meet-up section, will there be any meet-ups at some point? Just out of interest, where is everyone based? I'm in Buckinghamshire.

bakedalaska · 23/09/2005 20:46

I have found a thread with my name on it? 1961, with a 1 year old. I didn't realise there were so many 40+ mn'ers.

helsy · 24/09/2005 07:22

Don't live anywhere near Bucks I'm afraid. I think there are quite a few older mothers on here and not just on this thread.

savanna · 03/10/2005 21:47

Welcome to the thread, Bakedalaska.
Helsy, do you know what other threads older MNers are on?
Hope everyone is OK. There's been no new posts here lately.

Gilli · 03/10/2005 22:36

They're probably asleep! seriously, I'm a 1960 babe with a 14 yr ds, 12 yr ds, 10 yr dd and 3 yr dd......mostly its finr but youngest has just started kindergarten at 'big school' and I get really hacked off watching all the young mums bouncing around, playing tennis, doing triathlons (i'm not kidding) and generally over achieving while I manage to walk the dog, dye my grey hairs and slump with a glass of wine in the evenings!

Janh · 03/10/2005 22:43

Gilli, huge sympathy - I was a 1951 babe with (9 years ago to match you) DD aged 14, DD aged 11, Ds aged 8 and DS aged 3. (Now they are 23, 20, 17 & 12.)

I hated the school gate and the whole mum thing. Best way is to ignore the lot of them and do what you want

aloha · 03/10/2005 22:54

Loads of us on here! You just can't tell from the vigorous and youthful tone of our posts . I'm 42 ( How did that happen?)with a just four year old and an nearly eight month old.
Bugger triathlons! I wouldn't have wanted to do one at any age. They are all loons. I've always preferred a glass of wine or two and a sit down. My god, the hair's gone grey recently though. I blame the sleep deprivation.

helsy · 04/10/2005 20:04

Savanna, we oldies are on all sorts of threads - just noticed I'm not the only wrinkly around. My hair is grey and I must stop pulling it out because I think I'd rather be grey than bald.......... Luckily we live in an area where most of the mums at the school gate are over 35, so no worries there. In fact, we're much older than most of the teachers. Just off for a rejuvenating glass of red wine.

motherinferior · 04/10/2005 20:06

Oh yes, oldies a gogo round here

Callmemadam · 05/10/2005 22:59

Gilli here, just fancied a change of name - it's only taken me two years to work out the technology - thanks for the support, I was beginning to think I was odd! Went to a great party on Saturday and had a wonderful time lusting after a very attractive (happily married)man, dancing with lots of others (all friends, I hasten to add!) and generally having a good time:my beloved dh, who had had the snip on Friday btw, even drove! However, my triathlon - loving friend and hostess, whose 40th it was, didn't have a single glass of champagne even though she really wanted one...........Now I only had a couple of glasses but felt positively outrageous by comparison -

Cam · 14/10/2005 21:32

lol Helsy at older than the teachers, dd (8) has joined a new prep school this September and when I looked it up on the Good Schools Guide before looking around, I was to find that the Headmistress is a good decade (and some more lol) younger than me.

I almost felt like saying to her at our first meeting, are you sure you're up to the job (only joking!)

Actually her child is at the school and only a year younger than dd - she must think I'm a complete hag

habitat · 02/01/2006 20:38

Hi just found mn and one of the first threads I have come across is this one - I am a 1962 born - with a nearly 3 DS - great to find so many "experienced" mums - are there any of you based in the North Manchester Region?
