You may think you are the only one Mumsnetting in the North East but you are not. Come on and meet foxytocin and a few other lovely mumsnetters. Sign up quick so you can help decide where and when.

Indith, SPB, BT, Lackadaisy... I am baaa-ack.

And, I don't know if they still do but they used to have half price day on the Wednesday. Perhaps worth looking into.

Hi Stealth. I'm busy reminiscing about my teen years now. I'd love to move back to Durham but not possible

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2009 13:45

What shows at the sands??
Durham is a lovely place to live, isn't it?

muggglewump · 09/04/2009 13:48

Shows as in fair! It's a Northern thing isn't it? That what I've always know fairs as.

It is fab, I didn't appreciate it much growing up, but now I see how lovely it was.
I'm not remotely religious but I used to love the sound of the Cathedral bells on a Sunday. I could hear them from home if it was a still day.

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2009 14:02

ah right.
Where abouts were you?

Indith · 09/04/2009 14:22

Lol SPB I'd forgotten that! Ooooooooh so tell me all about it, is it really a lovely place to live? It just seems fantastic! Can you reassure dh that it isn't too isolated and the bus to Durham is fine? I have moved in in my mind already, am going to be gutted if it doesn't work out, the community seems really lovely.

Which house...erm....I'll e mail you!

Indith · 09/04/2009 14:33

Typical, I left on Very Important Business (Neighbours) and now SPB has gone

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2009 14:39

just down the road from me! And I think our neighbours are moving there soon, their house is currently the one with all the scaffolding outside (it had no front until a few days ago).
It is a lovely lovely lovely place to live and we don't have any regrets about moving here. When you open the windows you can hear sheep or peacocks, rarely people or traffic. You do hear noise from the football club until lateish on Saturdays I think but it's not unreasonable and I think we're closer than you'd be.
Isolated...erm...it is, sorry. There are plenty of places more isolated - show him a few places in those villages other side of Stanhope There is a bus into Durham, I think it's every hour and takes about half an hour (??) (was about 20 mins from esh winning). Also, the nearest shop / post office is esh winning, a good 40 mins round trip if you're walking. If you have a car, you'll be fine. If you need to get anywhere in a hurry, IMO, you need one, sorry.
I'm going to really really enjoy my maternity leave walking around the area (was just on the back end of ML last time). There are just little country paths everywhere.
Just get another car. It will be fine. Are you still a student, and if not do you have a job - where? It's commutable to Durham, Spennymoor, Bishop Auckland, Sunderland and Darlington (although that one could be a problem in winter trying to use the back roads).

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2009 14:40

Will have a look out of a house with a for sale sign outside when I go past tonight!

Indith · 09/04/2009 14:45

maternity leave? flipping heck I'm behind the times, congrats!

40 min round trip to EW is about what I thought and that is fine by me as is the bus. Isolated to me would mean nothing at all to do. I don't have a job, dh works in Gateshead so should be fine. Not planning on getting a car for me, the lady selling the house says there is a toddler group in waterhouses, there is one in EW, lots of walks, can get to Durham, tis fine by me! I hope tesco deliver though

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2009 14:52

Thanks!
Gateshead definitely fine as well - in fact probably better than sunderland as you can avoid the A1 / A167 almost entirely. DH used to do EW -> Metro Ctr pretty much, and that took about 45 mins at the worst.
Yes, nice toddler group in Waterhouses on a Tuesday and one in EW on a Monday I think.
Tesco do deliver, and if you fancy it we can order together and go halves as often as we can as I'd happily pay for it if delivery was half the price! Waterhouses also seem to do a lot of community stuff (more than EW when we lived there) - cake stalls, meals etc in the Village Hall and there's a cinema which shows stuff from time to time.
Move in before Christmas, we went to the children's service last year at the church and it was lovely.
Look tell your DH you have to move, I want you to!

Indith · 09/04/2009 14:57

Oh I do want to move, I really do. Dh will be happy about the commute. Right off to feed dd and then cart the dcs into town to post dd's passport application.

BouncingTurtle · 09/04/2009 15:02

If the 28th is easier, than I can do that afternoon. DS is in nursery in the morning, but depending on when I am working that morning I might be able to pick him up a bit sooner - but I think realistically it'll be 2pm before I can get to Dalton Park.

How does that suit everyone?

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2009 15:25

2pm would suit me too - T has an appointment at the hospital at 11.15 so we'll probably just come straight from there.

muggglewump · 09/04/2009 15:35

I lived in Pity Me SPB.
I still dream of moving back but unless I can do it before DD (7) starts Secondary School it won't be possible.
I have already picked out many a house on Rightmove though, for when the lotto win happens you see

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2009 15:38

Do it!
What's stopping you? Tell us and we'll fix your problems!
(or ignore me - I'm getting overexcited )

foxytocin · 09/04/2009 15:55

getting rediculously excited over a meetup on her doorstep

OP posts:
muggglewump · 09/04/2009 16:09

Ah money issues SPB. Single Mum, just had to give up my awful waitressing job and go back on IS, so really I am trapped.
Of course I hope I get a much better job and I have a good 4 years to make the move so hopefully it will be possible in that time.

I'd go back to the same area (Fram/Newton Hall/Pity Me) as I heard fairly recently from another Mnetter that Fram is still a good school and it's where I went, plus it's the area I know.
As a non driver it would be the best for me as it's so accessable on Public Transport.

Indith · 09/04/2009 17:10

2pm is ok but I have to be back in the centre of Durham for 5 to pick ds up. Dh home tonight though so I'll ask about the car.

BouncingTurtle · 09/04/2009 17:33

That's fine, don't want to be late back anyway.

So the meetup is

Tuesday 28th April
2pm
Dalton Park.

Where shall we meet? I suggest outside Crabtree & Evelyn?

Can we have a check on who's coming, just in case there is anyone who we haven't seen in RL before! Don't want to miss them

Me(BouncingTurtle)
Foxytocin
StealthPolarBear
Indith
BettySwollux

Obviously most of us have met before, but don't let that put anyone off!!

BouncingTurtle · 09/04/2009 17:37

Just in case anyone needs directions

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2009 17:41

I can get to DP ok but might struggle to find the specific shop (but realise we do have to meet somewhere ) are there maps like the metro centre?

StealthPolarBear · 09/04/2009 17:41

and is there only one car park and everywhere's easy to get to from there?

BettySwollux · 09/04/2009 21:42

Ooh, there's loads happened while I've been away!
I can make 28th at 2pm.
Have you all met before then?

geordieminx · 09/04/2009 21:55

SPB Its dalton park... its not really a thriving metropolis.... you'll be fine... there is a starbucks and a thorntons

As you were ladies

StealthPolarBear · 10/04/2009 08:36

Well I did think that when I'd driven past it didn't look quite as big as the metro centre
Betty, I've met Indith and BouncingTurtle, and looking forward to meeting you and foxytocin!
