It's just me & my DD right now but I'm hopeful that other Plymouth mums will find us. I'm 32 yrs old, my girl is six months & we're ready to be sociable. Who else is? Looking forward to finding out

Hi Fran - is that the group at Salisbury Rd Baptist Church on Fridays? Wierd if it is - I went for the first time last week. DD was too tired to stay for the singsong at the end, but I hear it's a real treat We could meet you at whichever group it is, as we've been trying to find a nice one to go to. Are you going this week?

19fran76 · 10/06/2009 11:13

Hi Annie, we go to Helping Hands Toddler Group, Open Doors International Language School, 28 Woodland Terrace. It's almost next to the park. We tested a few before finding this one. I felt it had a warm, welcoming atmosphere & that I felt comfortable chatting with the other mamas. Also: Quite a few babies at this group so not just toddlers.

A lot other groups we went to were like walking into well-established cliques & were either mainly granny- dominated/competitive yummy mummy undercurrents/chavtastic . I expose my prejudices, no?

Doh! I should add: Open at 9:30, we normally rock up at a lazy 10ish or so. We are going this week.

OP posts:
anniemac72 · 10/06/2009 12:49

That sounds great, thank you. We've been to our fair share of chavtastic groups, can't face another! The one we went to last week was total chaos with toddlers on bikes zooming over small hands. I'm sure my DD will love it when she's a bit older though! We'll try to come along on Friday then. 9.30 is toooo early for us - DD still snoozing off her brekkie at that hour, so 10 is probably more realistic. Look forward to meeting you!

nevergoogledragonbutter · 10/06/2009 14:20

hello, thanks for the goodluck vibes.
have taken one car load of stuff to the charity shop and one load to the dump so far

quick lunch break and i'm back to it.

it's so true about removals men being much quicker at packing because they don't stop to ooh and aah, and 'do you remember when...', and oh wow, i can't believe we kept this..awwwww.

must stay focused.

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2009 18:51

So who had heard/read the news in the last 2 days .

Hope no-one is affected by it

nevergoogledragonbutter · 10/06/2009 19:18

i've only seen the headlines really.

have crimes been committed against children at the nursery?

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2009 20:58

I think from what I have heard, a woman has been arrested and charged with sexual assault and making and distributing indecent images. it appears from the police statement that they identified elements of the images as being that of the nursery, ie the photos were taken at the nursery, so presumably they were children who were there.

The police said in a statement today that they would find it difficult to identify the children photographed as the photos were mainly torsos not face shots.

It makes me feel sick. I know it would have been awful whereever it happened, but it makes me realise, this woman could have been working in any nursery in Plymouth, in DDs nursery. AND we had seriously intended buying a house near the nursery and it would no doubt have become DDs nursery. There but for the grace of god...the parents must be sick with worry.

I do keep thinking 'innocent until proven guilty' etc, but the police were quite adamant that specific evidence was identified which resulted in the charge.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 10/06/2009 21:21

how awful.

PavlovtheCat · 10/06/2009 21:26

I try so hard to be non-judgemental, wait til we have the facts, this does not mean all nurseries are unsafe, DD was not at risk do not be paranoid. It is my job to be impartial about it all. I hear horrible things daily in my job and I am able to switch off for the most part.

I wonder why not this? Guess its so close to 'home' so to speak.

Anyway, on a lighter note...hows the clearing out? We did our loft last week to prep for the loft conversion now underway. We did 4 runs to the tip in our landrover with seats flat, have a full car load for the 'bootsale' that will never happen, in our bedroom currently, a car load of books to be sold, again in our bedroom, and about the same again of stuff we need to keep, partly in our bedroom and partly in friends garage - we are sleeping in a store-room right now. BUT, we have a skylight in a loft already Progress that is. Only another 9 weeks to go.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 11/06/2009 08:29

two trips to the dump
two trips to dame hannah's shop
3 ebay listings

barely making any headway

contemplating buddhism.

19fran76 · 11/06/2009 10:05

Yep, total detachment sounds a fine prescription under the circumstances NGDB Relate to the stop, pause & reminisce school of packing. Good workrate, even so. Breathe deeply, visualise the clutter-free finish &....as you were

P.S. Do it for me, an online stranger . We could be moving soon.

Pav, hearing of abuse towards children is always horrid & haunting, more so since becoming a mother. It is deeply unsettling that it exists. I do feel for all affected by this.

oooggs · 11/06/2009 12:32

Pav - our loft was finished about 2 months ago - It was hell but results are fantastic.

The boys bedrooms are on my profile, there is also a hall, stairs & landing and a shower room which I haven't photographed.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 11/06/2009 18:43

I've been wearing a pedometer and yesterday managed to walk 11km without leaving the house.
Impressive if i do say so myself.

Today i've been creating a presentation for work and have only managed to rack up 3km. grrr.

19fran76 · 11/06/2009 22:30

I took a peek at the photos of your loft Ooogs, it does look great. Wow, what a lot of space you've claimed for your family. That must be very satisfying .

NGDB, is this a recent hobby/pastime or have you been attached to your pedometer for a while?

OP posts:
nevergoogledragonbutter · 11/06/2009 23:42

recent.
so recent infact, that i go it wrong. it was 11,000 steps not kilometers.
duh.

i am trying to lose weight and i want to see whether i am as active on my work days as i feel i am.
i think i'm actually more active on my days off. going by my week of recording {geek emoticon}

PavlovtheCat · 12/06/2009 10:42

Oooggs - do you mind me asking who did it? I am always curious to hear of other builders.

Sounds great. Unfortunately ours is not really big enough for shower room, it will be a big room without it, too small with.

PavlovtheCat · 12/06/2009 10:50

Just had a look at piccies - great room . I hope ours looks as good.

We have had the skylights put in, makes soooo mch difference already. Builders are re-enforcing everything and steels are going in today (yeah right! was meant to be yesterday!).

(grrrrr) at my DH though. He made himself a cuppa, and when he was halfway through I asked if I could have a coffee (dont usually drink it atm) and he said 'bloody hell pav I just made one' then that second the builders arrived and he said 'you guys want tea?' made them tea, took it up to them. No coffee for me though!

oooggs · 12/06/2009 21:14

he was Trussed Lofts, then Arbor South West and I think he has renamed again!!!!

The plasterer was fantastic and that was really makes it (oh and our decorating of course )

19fran76 · 12/06/2009 21:52

It was a pleasure meeting you Anniemac

OP posts:
19fran76 · 12/06/2009 21:55

NGDB, I was advised on MN to 'embrace the geek'. Feels good, don't it?

OP posts:
anniemac72 · 13/06/2009 19:27

Great to meet you too, 19fran76. Maybe there'll be a group outing sometime - would love to come along. Meanwhile, I'll definitely see you at the group again - thought it was lovely. Must think of a more interesting nursery rhyme for next time!

19fran76 · 13/06/2009 21:54

I don't know about a group outing Annie . I love the idea but you're the first person I've met through this thread & you've seen evidence of the persistence that took for yourself

I am glad you liked the group & we will see you there again. At least you didn't threaten to maim toddlers with hot coffee . Then DD smashed a plate in a charidee shop on Mutley . I saw an arm strike faster than a bolt of lightening on the edge of my peripheral vision. Grab, clear shelf & drop. A developmental first .

PavlovtheCat · 15/06/2009 09:22

Hey, glad a couple of you got to meet! Meetups always take a while to organise in my experience, as people have different things going on.

It will happen I am sure, if we want it to. Perserverence is key

yorkies · 15/06/2009 20:24

Hi Ladies
I'm new to the site and a new mum. I would be interested in your next meet up when you next have one as I'm on maternity leave until december.
