Are there any Diss(ish) new(ish) Mums on MN?

throckenholt · 13/11/2004 18:05

I live near Long Stratton, and there are a few others around.

SenoraPostrophe · 13/11/2004 18:36

Used to live nearby.

Doesn't really count I know, but I will be staying nearby (Eccles) for a couple of days over Xmas. Have dd (2) and ds (who'll be nearly 1). Any days out recommendations? We'll have lots of visiting to do, but it'd be good to have another plan.

Willowmum · 14/11/2004 10:54

I believe Monsters in Diss is good for toddlers, although my DD is only 6 months old so I haven't been. Days out for us normally involve getting out of Diss

Throckenholt - have you used this site much before? This is my first time!

Hi Willowmum,

yep - I have been posting on and off for a year or so. Usually very friendly, very informative, sometimes big arguments flare up.

Hope you like it here !

Willowmum · 15/11/2004 11:21

I'll look forward to the arguements then! One of my NCT buddies has just moved to Long Stratton. I don't know it very well though, I work in Norwich so spend a lot of time sitting in my car trying to get through LS but don't actually stop.

Hi Willowmum. I live not too far from you. Im in Stoke Holy Cross (about 4 miles from Long Stratton). 3 kids 2ds 1dd. Only been on here for a couple of weeks. Its all a bit daunting really to me.

Willowmum · 19/11/2004 13:45

Hi jusu - I know Stoke Holy Cross, I use it as a bit of a cut through on the way to work.

I know what you mean about this site, it can be difficult to jump into the middle of a conversation sometimes. I always seem to see interesting conversations too late to add to them!

I have one dd, 7 months old. I've just gone back to work (3 days per week, off Mondays and Fridays), dead on my feet at the moment!

Hi Willowmum, welcome to mumsnet! I live in Diss too. My two are a bit older than your dd. My ds is 4 and my dd is 21 months.
I've been on here about 6 months or so. It's addictive!

Willowmum · 27/11/2004 11:13

Wow cupcakes - am amazed there is life in Diss! How long have you been here? I moved down from Warrington about 3.5yrs ago, bit of a culture shock moving from urban north to rural Norfolk but am ejoying it now, good place to bring up dd I think.

cupcakes · 27/11/2004 13:03

Hi - neither my dh or I grew up here but it seems nice for the children! Small enough to be quite friendly and familiar but large enough to have one or two amenities (intercity link!!) and suchlike.
We also moved here just over three years ago - from Norwich. We already had ds and thought it would be a nice place for him to grow up. Now that we've 'downsized' a little we are thinking of going even more rural and moving to a village...

Willowmum · 27/11/2004 18:45

Don't think I could live anywhere smaller than Diss, at least we have a few restaurants, pubs etc. Not that we get to go to them these days. Have you seen the Xmas lights yet? Exactly what have they spent £12k on?! They've used last year's strings of lights again and put up a ropey tree by the post office - I spent a fortune on raffle tickets at Party in the Park as well! Quite like the floating tree on the Mere though.

romantick · 30/11/2004 23:04

thanks for all your help and advice

romantick · 30/11/2004 23:06

the money for the lights willowmum have probably gone on the men who put up the lights.

Willowmum · 01/12/2004 12:35

The Diss massive membership increases to 3! Aren't we doing well?

Does anyone go the local NCT branch open house things?

OP posts:
throckenholt · 01/12/2004 12:46

I have met a few of the Diss NCT crowd (I have helped out at a couple of sales) - they seem friendly enough. I don't go to them because I live up near Long Stratton and go to a local coffee group up here.

Willowmum · 03/12/2004 11:32

I've not been to any of the local NCT meetings, they're only about once a month and I always seem to be doing something else, difficult now I'm back at work as well. I still meet up with my NCT antenatal classmates in Norwich though.

Just been into town - the Xmas lights have fallen down! Currently draped all over the market stalls. Maybe they needed to pay a bit more for the men who put them up - get a better job done?!

Has anyone in this area been to Gissing Hall? I'm looking for a wedding venue and this has been recommended to me as a fairly relaxed and informal place - any experiences?
