Great new Foxi! Really pleased for you.

Crowns make a big hole in the bank balance don't they QC?!

Welcome back Ele

Have a great holiday SJ.

ComeOVeneer · 10/09/2007 21:45

Foxie, I would really really loved to but you know what the situation is re dh so it is looking more and more unlikely there will be a number 3 .

SushiMummy · 11/09/2007 08:07

Morning all.

Fantastic news, foxie! I am so glad things worked out so brilliantly for you.

CoV, can I come to admire your Kitchen and say farewell to Nanou (altho, I've never met her in RL), please? A lift will be very much appreciated. Any space, QC, foxie?

DS still not well, he had diarrhea and conjuctivitis caused by the same virus. DH is looking after him today.

Hi Mellow, Lemondade and Ele! And of course, everyone else!!!

ComeOVeneer · 11/09/2007 09:52

Of course you can Sushi (afaik you are already on the list for the 13th). Hope ds mkes a speedy recovery.

Well I am sitting in a quiet house all by myself. I dropped ds of at nursery for the first time this morning, and he was happy as Larry (whoever Larry is??) for me to leae him, so my little baby is out in the big wide world without me for a full 3 hours. If I'm honest I am actually feeling rather anxious and keep waitning for the phone to ring asking me to come and fetch him, or there is some sort of problem.

sfxmum · 11/09/2007 10:27

hello good morning all

have very snoty toddler today, but t least no nightmare, just cries of 'mummy tissue'

sushi hope yours feels better soon, sounds horrid.

COV - question if I may, I understand you bake your bread, was thinking of doing that, and do it occasionally but was wondering if it would be wise to invest on a bread making machine, maybe the Panasonic?
I like different kinds of dough, seldom do straight wheat white. any advice greatly appreciated. TIA

hope you all ok today

ComeOVeneer · 11/09/2007 10:34

I use a bread maker most of the time. I have a Panasonic (it is about 8 years old but still going strong). I make all sorts of different types of bread (white/wholemeal/seeded/sundried tomato etc). The other thing you can do is use the bread mkaer to mix the dough up then bake it in your normal oven, saves on the hard labour and enables you to make rolls, more "rustic" looking bread etc. If you havee one with a timer you can set it the night before with the ingreients in then come down in the morning to freshly baked bread. YUM

sfxmum · 11/09/2007 10:40

YUM indeednothing really beats fresh bread, many thanks.
might ask in-laws for it as Christmas present. think they will be pleased I am showing domestic tendencies

next step make my own past more regularly, it's a slippery slope

foxcub · 11/09/2007 10:41

CoV I'm sure he'll be fine. My DS1 had his first sleepover a couple of weks ago and I was waiting for a phone call all evening, but he was fine! Your DS will be having great fun - all those toys to play with!

Sushi - Deffo have a space for you in car

sfxmum · 11/09/2007 10:41

pasta pasta

I don't make up my own past

sfxmum · 11/09/2007 10:46

apologies for self centerdness I am sure ds will be fine, it's a big step mostly for mums

ComeOVeneer · 11/09/2007 10:58

I know he will be fine. The silly thing is this is n't my first time as ds is the youngest, but I am feeling it more than I ever did when dd started nursery and school. I think there is a special bond between mothers and sons, especially as the time of being able to show affection between the two of you is probably short lived, before you just become an embaressment . I adore both of my children equally but I think as it is more and more unlikely we will have any more, I am mourning the passing of babyhood more keenly with ds.

Although (TMI) I was nice to be able to go to the toilet this morning all by myself .

ComeOVeneer · 11/09/2007 11:01

LOL sfx, you will become domesticated like me (tis indeed a slippery slope). I now make my own bread, pasta, cakes, biscuits, quiches, truffles, florentines etc. Have also dabbled in sushi and I make my own mince and will soon be embarking on my own sausages once I have ordered the skins .

sfxmum · 11/09/2007 11:18

we are both keen on doing things from scratch really, dh is quite enthusiastic especially in involving dd, he is looking at allotments but the waiting is huge.

my mum run her own small business had 3 kids did own baking jam all sort of chutneys and put up with my dad, quite an achievement.

stepfordwife · 11/09/2007 11:31

morning, all
how is everyone diddling?

cov - know how you're feeling. dd settling in at nursery and crying when i leave her. of course, she's fie when i ring up an hour later, asking if she's ok.

sushi - poor ds. hope he's better soon.

right, better do some work to salve my guilt/justfify nursery fees. ho-hum
toodlepip

ComeOVeneer · 11/09/2007 11:31

We have allotments just down the road and I have put my name on the waiting list (but it is likely to be years). I would like to try my hand at chutneys and pickles but not so keen on jams, simply because we don't eat them in this house.

ComeOVeneer · 11/09/2007 11:33

Steppy, I am indulging in some me time this morning (as it is the first day and all, plus I can't start any tasks just in case the nursery calls and I have to drop everything and go to him ). He is doing 3 sessions a week so pleny of time of be more productive later in the week.

stepfordwife · 11/09/2007 11:36

cov, enjoy!

Kewcumber · 11/09/2007 11:50

my best bread recipe.

Wholegrain bread.

Take one Marks and Spencer and about £1

Pick up delicious bakers multigrain sliced bread, give lady at till £1.

Eat.

It's from the same recipe book as my much loved (though ignored on here ) haddock recipe.

Hi

(This is StarryStarryNight in her new Latin inspired gown)

Have ANY of you volunteered as Tsarina for Richmond? You lot are a gold mine of local information, so you should....

StellaPolaris · 11/09/2007 11:55

And COV, have you settled in your new kitchen yet?

ComeOVeneer · 11/09/2007 11:57

Ah but is it still warm KC?

The thing is KC I have the time to do this kind of thing being a SAHM (plus I find it strangely therapeutic). In my pre child days and when I was working full time M+S was my best friend too.

ComeOVeneer · 11/09/2007 11:58

I have starry, although waitng for the builder to come and do the tiling so I can then finish it off with a lick of paint.

StellaPolaris · 11/09/2007 12:00

I bet it is lovely to have the hassle of the build firmly behind you at least...

hi SPI have only lived here for just over 2yrs so really know nothing.

KC - m&s is full of tempting treats.
never underestimate the therapeutic value of pounding punching and kneading dough

cov - my mum used to make tomato and pumpkin jams. and my MIL often burns her lovely thick marmalade making it all gorgeously toffee like.
