Just thought I would get this up and running before the old one is full.

OP posts:
sfxmum · 07/08/2007 17:10

i just could not do that sorry but i need a life. am very pro child centered approach but watching them for signs of evacuation and holding them over the sink is a bit much for me.

does anyone actually remember those explosive newborn poos? on no no no

stepfordwife · 07/08/2007 17:11

paddle...don't guilt-trip about disposables. before you know it, you'll be potty training dd and can go on that first mother-daughter "buying pants" trip.!
it's a very sweet milestone, actually.
excepot today, dd was demanding "duck pants". managed to fob her off with some heart/stripey/bunny ones

foxcub · 07/08/2007 17:25

Dd is very particular about which pants she wears and will only wear "ballet shoes" pants (classy)

I find it quite hard not to ridicule the pooing on the floor method, presumably none of these women have to work for a lining?

I'm too much of a control freak to let my kids regularly poo on the floor.

Mellow - The babyledweaning would really suit DS2 - as you saw, he is trying to grab food from the DCs and tries to grad the weaning sppon from my hand. It recommends 6 months for holding food, so I will continue with the organic mush, with some baby rice added as you suggested, and then give him some soft finger food he won't choke on. Something tells me he will be rather good at feeding himself. He is showing a lot of interest in food atm and is a big hungry chubber

stepfordwife · 07/08/2007 17:37

yep, ds2 is a natural, foxie. dd seemed to go straight from mush to practically what the rest of us eat

stepfordwife · 07/08/2007 17:39

...especially your fab NEW floor, foxie, eh?

Paddlechick666 · 07/08/2007 17:39

pmsl @ Evacuation Control

Just re-read my own post and now have some weird mental images regarding babies, nappies and emergency Fire Warden type vests and hard hats running around shouting "Don't Panic! Leave the building calmly and quietly! Do not use the lifts or the toilets!!!"

stepfordwife · 07/08/2007 17:40

well, paddle. gwad knows you'd need a hard hat with all that shite flying around!

stepfordwife · 07/08/2007 17:42

warning: warning: BABY ABOUT TO OPEN HER BOWELS. THIS IS NOT A DRILL!

sfxmum · 07/08/2007 17:55

Shock Grin

xoxo · 07/08/2007 18:23

good lordy. I leave for a few minutes and it's all gutter talk now

glad to see we're all such classy birds

stepfordwife · 07/08/2007 18:26

i may be in the gutter, dear oxo, but i'm staring up at the stars...
to paraphrase that irish fella

stepfordwife · 07/08/2007 18:29

dear lord, the irony of it..dd is sitting on my desk (why oh why do i kid myself i can get anything done with her around?) babbling from dr christopher green's toddler taming.....

foxcub · 07/08/2007 19:03

Is it a self help book?

sfxmum · 07/08/2007 19:10

doesn't he advocate spanking?

stepfordwife · 07/08/2007 19:18

don't think he actually advocates it - more accepts that in real life, there are going to be parents who smack their children- and they're usually perfectly loving parents - and he thinks the odd corrective smack is pretty harmless. oh - and i think maybe he does advocate it if it's to save a child from danger.
overall, he thinks it's usually a pretty ineffective discipline tool, though..

mini-lecture over..
penelope leach next?

stepfordwife · 07/08/2007 19:20

foxie, if it was a self-help book, she'd more likely be reading:'toddlers - 100 easy recipes for you and mum.."

hey, how's the lodger?

sfxmum · 07/08/2007 19:26

i like old Penelope, dh was the one who read Taming Toddlers but was not impressed, not sure exactly why but remember he told me something about smacking

stepfordwife · 07/08/2007 19:33

yes, penelope is one of my faves, too.
quite like christopher green's practical take and sense of humour

sfxmum · 07/08/2007 20:01

foxie - dd was telling us at dinner about playing with your dd, she told us that your dd was saying 'don't write on walls, use the paper'
so
apologies if she did, am not sure what happened as this is what i tell her when she does draw on walls

steppie - will have a look then if dh has not flogged it on ebay yet

foxcub · 07/08/2007 20:14

sfx - DD was repeating the lecture I give her!

She realy enjoyed herself having some girly time. After you left she put on a Cinderella DVD and was telling Mellow's DD, "..This film is for girls only. NOT, for Boys. OK ? "

Steppy - he's the perfect lodger in all respects apart from one. He sleeps here, doesn't use the kitchen, and is either out or in his room reading/playing on his playstation. I wish he would take his shoes off in the house as both DH and myself have asked him to - twice.

Steppy don't laugh!!

foxinsocks · 07/08/2007 20:52

how weird - could have sworn I posted on here!

Have any of you been to the Marble Hill Adventure Playground for the over 5s (not the one at the bottom, the top one)? I haven't been and was wondering what it was like!

Also haven't made it to Kew yet - but I'm not sure if the beach will just appear like a giant sandpit to my two (not that there's anything wrong with that!). Weather is supposed to be lovely tomorrow.

mellow2 · 07/08/2007 21:21

Foxie,
Dd woke up for her nap and started looking for your dd and she was upset for about half an hour until she was distracted by her new nursery rhyme video cd.

mellow2 · 07/08/2007 21:22

woke up from, even

foxcub · 07/08/2007 22:30

mellow - fickle eh?

foxinsox - the over 5's playground is great. You have to pay to get in (not much about £1.50). Its a bit awkward if you have younger ones, as they can't go in with their siblings. My DS1 went to a party there and loved it!
