Brand new thread for July.

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 09/07/2007 13:38

foxie there are whole sites dedicated to lactating for adoptive parents. Have failed in my duty not trying but I did find the idea a bit odd and I beleive that breast milk artificially produced is not as nutricious. Can't beleive many 1-2 yr olds would be able to START breastfeeding at that age.

Kewcumber · 09/07/2007 13:39

"I never touched a drop of breastmilk and I turned out OK"

Thanks for that Foxie - I feel so much more reassured now . Actually none of us three were my mum never produced a drop apparently. Could put my weight problems down to that (however tis really due to cake)

SushiMummy · 09/07/2007 13:55

Thank you Lemon. DS has been eating for England (or Japan) lately. We went to Pizzaexpress last night and he finished the whole Piccolo course including the icecream then he said 'more?'.

QC. V impressed with your Japanese again! yes, he'd be too young to be called SushiSan, more like SushiKun (like Master Sushi).

Kewcumber · 09/07/2007 13:57

ooh must a note of that Sushi - what age would you pregress to being San (roughly). But lets be honest - your English is a little better than my japanese so your admiration is a bit mispolaced (though none the less welcome)

Kewcumber · 09/07/2007 13:58

"a bit mispolaced" on that basis your English is better than my English

foxcub · 09/07/2007 14:15

Saw your Ds this morning Kew, he looked a bit tired. You been keeping him up again?

SushiMummy · 09/07/2007 14:16

lol QC!

In fact I call DS 'Yuta-kun' which is his middle name and will continue calling him with kun attached till he gets married, I think.

SushiMummy · 09/07/2007 14:19

or he has his first girlfriend.

Kewcumber · 09/07/2007 14:35

Yes Foxie, I kept my little treasure up until 8.30 last night then woke him again at 2.30am. Had to wake him at 7.10 to get him up in time for work (mine not his).

Sushi - I can imagine lots of boys stay -kun to their mothers for many years. My mother lectured me about the need to keep giving DS the AB's until the end of the course. She laughed when I reminded her that I am a 42 yr old mother. She still thinks I'm 5 sometimes.

quokka · 09/07/2007 14:36

yes still here learning the ropes of this city!

I bf ds1 for 8 months then only managed 3 months with ds2 but had a couple of months stored in the freezer so can say he went for longer . I have rl friends who went on for ages and some that couldn't do it all - whatever works best for you and buba! Lol picturing QC trying to get a milk supply going, but my mil said it has happened (she was a nurse)

Well ladies I have relented (it didn't take me long) and am hiring a maid . Have decided to take advantage of my situation and maybe study while I have some help here. Have been thinking of becoming a doula for a while so might take the plunge! They are used alot here as there are so many expats, just need to find out how to get qualified. ulas are really popular there as well.

Kewcumber · 09/07/2007 14:38

what the hell is an ula?

hello Quokka - we've missed you. about teh maid though (very un PC)

quokka · 09/07/2007 14:39

not sure what happened to my last sentence but it should read. Dh dropped into the convo last night that we might move to the states next as the company he now works for is american. Doulas are widely used there.

The computer monitor is on the window sill and have a keyboard on my lap! Need to get a desk asap!

quokka · 09/07/2007 14:40

did you see my post on the cowboy and indians party?

quokka · 09/07/2007 14:41

a Doula is like a non medical midwife giving support through pregnancy birth and after care

Kewcumber · 09/07/2007 14:51

no - where is it? Are we invited?

Kewcumber · 09/07/2007 14:51

I know what a Doula is you donk, just hadn;t come across an Ula before!

quokka · 09/07/2007 15:02

someone started a thread asking for ideas for a C&I party and someone got on and said that its not very pc. The correct term was "native american". I reminded them it was a kids party not a political debate. But I have backed away, I'm not going to get involved!

foxcub · 09/07/2007 16:38

Doesn't have the same ring about it though does it? "Cowboys and Native Americans" party?

I'm fine about C&I but would make sure the DCs don't go as Colonisers!

Kewcumber · 09/07/2007 16:40

I'm fine with C&I but would make sure DS went as a cowboy to ensure no racial sterotyping - in fact would make sure he was sheriff.

Anyone go ta pirate costume I can borrow for him (even just a hat) our company awayday is pirates and DS is going...

sfxmum · 09/07/2007 17:17

hello everyone

we just had an lovely time at kew with in laws thunderstorm and rain included we timed it just right to be at cafe consuming coffee and cakes

re BF it is very emotive i had huge problems to get going dd had bottles for the first 3days much to my distress.
but really we do the best we can and the main thing is to love and care for them. i second lemon sushi-kun and gherkin are lovely.

quokka doula is well worth it, go for it. i think for my next i will hire a doula or an independent midwife.

rosmerta · 09/07/2007 18:44

Hi everyone, finally made it up to and back from Yorkshire in one piece! Also had my course today so am feeling a wee bit tired!

Sushi, I failed at bf as well! I'm finding the whole bf/ff particularly interesting atm because of my course, obviously its something we have to cover for the classes but how do you make sure its balanced?

SushiMummy · 09/07/2007 19:06

Thank you, sfx. Your DD is lovely, too. She speaks so well for her age, especially for being bilingual.

Sounds like we are doing a good job, aren't we, QC? [smug emoticon]

I made it sound like DS is so easy to look after which is far from the truth. He's a fussy eater and demands his fruit before and after meal (often that's all he eats!). He still has at least two bottles of milk a day at this age.

lemonaid · 09/07/2007 19:18

We've definitely got a pirate hat somewhere that you could borrow -- in fact somewhere we have an entire costume that DS got for his birthday and has shown no interest in, but that would be too big for your DS.

SushiMummy · 09/07/2007 19:20

rosemerta, I found those bf/ff debates v interesting too. Japan is a huge pro-bf country where you get all the support you need, we even have 'milk doctors' to ensure all new mums have stress-free bfing. But there is no 'division' between bf and ff like here. It's great you can bf but if not, you are still an adequate and competent mother and this is not the message I got in England, sadly.

Kewcumber · 09/07/2007 19:44

My Ds is an angel. Have to concede it is probably his genes but he has been such a cutey today - despite crying when I dropped him off, he obviously loved being with the other kids again after a week of being with boring old mummy and Nanny!

Sushi DS is also a fruit monster [smug emoticon] though given the choice he would also be a chocolate monster.
