I'm moving to St. Leonards in Exeter, and have a 13 month old baby.
Would love to hear from anyone in the area to find out about baby groups or meeting up for a coffee...

all the best,

x

hi

i'm new on MN, but am moving to exeter from manchester in the next couple of months - hopefully anyway (you know how slow it all is).
I did post on the "nurserys" board last night, requesting info/help about nurserys in the area, but having seen this post, thought i'd try again here.
i have 2 daughters of 3 and 1, we are moving into the St James area.
All help greatly appreciated!
thanks

hi

thanks for replying, even if you've not got nursery aged kids, where are good places to take them? nice parks, activities and other places where i can meet people (without looking too desperate!)
cheers

hello i have a dd 15m and we live in Heavitree area. There are quite a few nice places to go and some parks with good swings at heavitree and clifton hill - but i am terminally unreliable I keep getting my name down for these exeter meet ups and never turning up! i deserve getting my wrist slapped and possibly my mn hat confiscated. sadly it looks like i will be moving away soon and so i will never get to meet essbee, fennel, franca et al

hi

we moved from Manchester to Exeter a year ago and I have 3 dds. One is nursery age (3) but somehow I don't go to loads of toddler things as I have 2 infant age dds too.

places to go with toddlers - lots of parent and toddler groups, see other recent Exeter threads, there's one called Devonshire Dumplings, lots of us on there are new to the area, and I know people on there go to toddler groups around St James and St Leonards areas.

ah cool, so it looks like exeter's the place to move to then?!

we're really excited about it, it seems like a dream come true really (although at the moment it feels more like just a dream) being near seaside and country. I can't wait for the 3 yrs old to lose the manc accent and get a good west country one!

fennel · 14/05/2007 10:24

whereabouts in Manchester are you moving from?

My dds had a bizarre mix of Manc and Devon accent for a while but I think it's settling towards the Devon one now.

we're moving from south manchester (west didsbury to be exact), i've been in manchester for 16 years now, so we felt it was time for a change. Also, with having kids etc, it'll be great for them to grow up somehwere like that, we've also managed to get a house with a garden which is pretty exciting in itself!
what about you? where did you live and whats been the most notable aspect of moving down there?

fennel · 14/05/2007 14:38

We lived just down the road from you then, in Northenden. Maybe we've already met, I lived in Manchester 14 of the last 15 years before we moved here.

we really notice the sunshine here, people here complain about the weather but they just don't know how good it is compared to Manchester! we also love the sea, beaches, moors, all of it really.

And we like the city being smaller, in Manchester it took so long to get to the city centre, but also so long to get out of the city. here we are in a separate village which is very pleasant but we're still only a couple of miles from the city centre.

odder · 15/05/2007 19:54

so you've pretty much moved from city centre living to a village in a few years, sounds good.
we toyed with the idea of moving to a village, but for now we're very pleased to have got somewhere which is just 10 mins walk into centre of town, we're not quite ready for country living yet!

thanks for your help

We spent 5 months living in St Thomas in a rented house before we moved "out" to a village.

We dithered about whether to buy in or out of the city but we have been in cities so long we thought we'd try something different.

It was more of a culture shock for us moving from Exeter to the village only 2 miles down the road than from Manchester to Exeter. but we are reassured that it's no distance at all to come into Exeter, we come in and out all the time.
