A new thread for the new year

OP posts:
quokka · 14/01/2007 11:06

Not sure if theres going to be a collection, for one pressie? Nanou mentioned a little trampoline? If its easier then pressie doesn't have to be given at the party. For people that don't know or can't remember ds2's name its Billy.

quokka · 14/01/2007 11:40

my dh gambles on anything to do with sport!

MrsBigD · 14/01/2007 12:14

dh's gaming is geeky role play gaming you know collectible play pieces and cards. His current fav is called dream blade

OP posts:
Paddlechick666 · 14/01/2007 12:17

how about something like this

it's only £30 tho and I was thinking we'd all stick in a fiver so.......

if people were keen to do that then we could just get vouchers for anything left over.

or a big cushion to break Billy's fall LOL!

my dh is big on Flat racing, learned at his grandfarther's knees. He lays rather than bets and we paid for our wedding and honeymoon on the proceeds one year!

now he plays poker, with varying degrees of success depending on his frame of mind. he's chasing the big one!

quokka · 14/01/2007 12:29

I think it may have to be a bit bigger as ds2 will want to jump on it as well and he weighs 16kg what about this one

quokka · 14/01/2007 12:30

meant ds1 will want to jump!

sfxmum · 14/01/2007 12:32

quick break from study, finally dh got it together to take dd out bless him says he will return with dinner.

there is no gambling here dh is quite weary of any sort of debt/ gamble his grandfather was in banking and issued warning from cradle i think. he does like the geeky stuff big on D&D in his time, these days not so much.
i have a relative who really has a serious problem which has had severe consequences.

on activities for the week will finally get dd to music thing at mothercare tomorrow and i need to go to town at some point during the week and i am sure Kew will feature somewhere

sfxmum · 14/01/2007 12:34

oh that looks like fun! trampolines and swings should be made available for grown ups too great stress relievers

quokka · 14/01/2007 12:36

I agree sfx, our friends have a huge one in their garden and we always get on it (the adults) . It does help to have a very supportive bra on after 2 kids though!!!

Paddlechick666 · 14/01/2007 13:24

quokka, that looks much more like it.

will investigate further, am happy to buy online and people can give me their donation if you like.

i used to love trampolining, i think pud said there were classes at brentford but can't quite remember.........

when dd is bigger and if we ever have a bigger garden i'd love one of those huge ones!

sfx, glad your dh is bringing home the dinner and you're getting time to study.

gambling is a double edged sword. rule of thumb, never bet what you can't afford to lose. dh "lays" which basically gives him a bigger chance of winning.

as for the poker, he plays Texas Hold 'Em and it's a 20 or 50 quid buy in. He plays satellite games to get free entry to the big ones.

Last year he won an all expenses paid trip to Barcelona to play in the European Poker Tour. I think he'd love to turn pro but he knows i'd never go for it.

Anyways, dd needs her nap so i think i need to encourage her!

mellownomore · 14/01/2007 17:29

PC,
Enough winnings to pay for a wedding and honeymoon! Dh has only made £100 at the most LOL.

If you're happy to buy the trampoline, then I would be happy to pay you back when I see you coming Sunday.

I come from a family of gamblers but I'm not lucky at the gaming table so I don't gamble.

Quokka,
Dh bets on footie but not as much as on horses.

quokka · 14/01/2007 17:44

the luckiest I've ever been gambling was at Sydney casino, I had lost all my money so went to the atm, where there was $400! Whoever had been there before forgot to take the money. I waited for a while to see if they would come back and they didn't!

snowmum · 14/01/2007 17:51

Quokka, you lucky thing! The best freebie I ever get is the occasional bit of loose change that people leave behind in ticket machines!

DH doesn't gamble but I did like the odd flutter when in my young, free, single days when I actually had some disposable income!

Err..do you have space for me and DD to come along next Sunday? I know its v late notice. Also, where is it?

Paddlechick666 · 15/01/2007 10:05

just a quickie:

I'm making an exective decision and will order the toddler trampoline for Quokka's ds2's birthday present.

It's £35 incl postage so split between all of us that should be quite reasonable.

Hope all agree! Am hoping to get it in time if I order today

Paddlechick666 · 15/01/2007 10:09

roll call for the birthday - please add or correct if I am wrong!

Paddlechick + dd
Mellow + dd
Pud + ds
MrsB + ds & dd
Uwila + dd & ds
Foxie + ds & dd
Snowmum + dd
SFXmum + dd
Nanou + dd
Trying2bgood + dd & dd

if i'm correct that works out about £3.50 each!

happy to make it a fiver a head tho and Quokka can use the remainder for that big cushion!

sfxmum · 15/01/2007 10:35

that sounds good paddle thanks for organizing it. can anyone tell me address please.

btw hope you ok

MrsBigD · 15/01/2007 10:55

yup I'm in good idea and good organising PC. I'm defo slacking as the 'German Leader' but being a SAHM is seriously cutting into my MN time!!!!

OP posts:
foxabout2pop · 15/01/2007 13:41

Paddle thanks for organising that for Quokka - will give you my money when I next see you

I won £83 on the lottery once, but had to share it with 13 other people

Also won a box of cigars at a Labour Party raffle

When I was on maternity leave with DD I tried to become one of those Compo queens (who do compos rather than work and win houses etc), but the the most I won that year was a box of Nemo party bits - which came in useful for DS's 4th birthday party actually

foxabout2pop · 15/01/2007 13:42

DH does the pools and regularly gets cheques for ....78p, 65p etc

snowmum · 15/01/2007 14:46

Paddle, that sounds great. Will give you money on Sunday.

Childs play cafe is here . I'll be driving from Richmond if anyone wants a life thats along the way.

snowmum · 15/01/2007 14:48

Lift!

Sorry, that should read "if anyone wants a lift thats along the way".

pudding77 · 15/01/2007 14:49

Thanks for organising that Paddle, will give the money to you on Sunday!

Paddlechick666 · 15/01/2007 15:43

I'm okay for a lift thanks, but I could use a life for sure!

I'm heading over from Isleworth via Brentford to happy to do the taxi thing also.

3 spare seats and most rear facing seats fit as well.

sfxmum · 15/01/2007 16:18

snowmum i might take you up on lift offer, i have a car seat, but will check public transport options first. thanks

paddle that is really good will bring cash along, do we need to bring anything else?

my day plans completely turned upside down dd dropped something heavy on my foot and all i can say is, i am glad it was not on hers, still not sure all bones are intact ouch ouch ouch
and really must not swear in front of child with parroty tendencies

foxabout2pop · 15/01/2007 16:49

Snowmum - I could do with a life too

We'd like a lift but you won't have room for us too - 3 of us - unless you have a huge people carrier
