chocky as in The Midwich Cuckoos?

pudding77 · 14/11/2006 21:21

Same guy wrote Chocky & Midwich Cuckoos but Chocky was made into a kids tv programme - little bit scary!

Well, guess I'm still one of the young 'uns then! Darn, I'll have to put that cardigan back & tip the horlicks away

sfxmum · 14/11/2006 21:27

i remember dark side, even saw pink flyed live at some point.
but what i really liked was Fraggle Rock (we got this on foreign land) take your cares away, worries for another day....la la la

pudding77 · 14/11/2006 21:39

oh, I liked fraggle rock as well!

Paddlechick666 · 14/11/2006 21:52

John Wyndham wrote The Midwich Cuckoos along with some other weird sci-fi. I still have his books!

I liked Fraggle Rock too - Sprocket the dog yeah?

sfxmum · 14/11/2006 21:56

unsurprisingly i have a sizable collection of old and new sci fi books not only am i middle age i am a geek too oh what my daughter will have to overcome

harktheheraldfoxessing · 14/11/2006 22:18

sfx how old were you when you saw Pink Floyd???

sfxmum · 14/11/2006 22:29

can't quite remember but late teens i think, it was after my mum died and before i went travelling the 2nd time so maybe 19, all so long ago blimey nearly 20yrs i know it was in Lisbon or maybe Cascais.
around that time i saw Iggy Pop cutting himself on stage.
its at times like this that i know i will not tell my daughter half the stuff i have done

trying2bgood · 14/11/2006 22:48

pudding77 - fraggle rock, button moon? You must be of my generation. I also loved dungeons and dragons and Mr Benn. I am certainly not going to own up to middle age for a while, I am still in denial that I have left behind my twenties............

sfx - not to worry I am also a geek, love buffy, angel, battlestar galactica, stargate to mention a few! Nothing wrong with a bit of escapism!

sfxmum · 14/11/2006 23:00

escapismtrying2bgoodyou are not taking this very seriously now are youyou mean the intelligent metaphor for the strife of our time surely

MrsBojangles · 15/11/2006 06:40

sfx be patient with T2bG she is young you know and still trying to assimilate the art of paraphrasing 'properly' . So what's your book collection? you a Heinlein/Asimov or a Philip Jose Farmer/Terry Brooks girl?

Paddlechick666 · 15/11/2006 07:36

oooh sfx, you an me both! our dds may have to support each other thru their traumatic childhoods to come lol!

i'm a heinlen freakl, started off with asimov but no more. partial to a bit of bradbury too.....

Mr Ben is borderline t2bg y'know!

sfx, if you don't mind my asking, how old were you when your mum died? my dad died when i was 17.

morning all btw!

MrsBojangles · 15/11/2006 07:49

Oh joy another Heinleinian spill the beans which one of his books is your fav?

sfxmum · 15/11/2006 08:00

oh dear what have i startedi like books period so the collection is fairly ecclectic, a lot of them from when i had the time to go to charity shops.
i read a lot of other stuff too don't you know but there is something about sci fi which really gets to the heart of things before anyone else even started to consider it

hoxohoxohoxo · 15/11/2006 08:03

Morning all, woke up at the crack of dawn again here in the Waltons household.
Had time this morning to read sj's journal: have you guys read it?
Honestly, tears in my eyes and lump in my throat.....
With that and Soapbox's thread I';ve come over all emotional [hmmm]

harktheheraldfoxessing · 15/11/2006 08:37

Hoxy - I've read it about 10 times and print off all the updates for my childminder (Sue's chilminder to be)

I have been in tears too. She seems to have cheered up a bit though doens't she, more back to her old self again, which is good.

It must be such an emotional rollercoaster for her, specially as she's been waiting for such a long time.

Uwilalalalalala · 15/11/2006 08:48

When is her court date?

pudding77 · 15/11/2006 09:38

morning all, have read a bit of sci-fi in my time, a friend introduced me to heinlen but really hard to get hold of his books, even in the library. My ds will have to get over both of his parents being geeks as we love stargate, star trek, battlestar etc etc! On top of that, we're both pc-savvy so he's got no chance really has he

Read Sue's update yesterday, I don't know her but she seems a bit happier than she did earlier. Fingers x for court

MrsBojangles · 15/11/2006 09:45

pudding77 I used to have ALL the Heinleins LOL but during last move sold them. I know sacrilege And our kids are already hooked on Stargate (lets' watch the monsters mama/papa), Star Trek etc.

anybody could post the link to SJ's site again please? too tired to scroll through all the varying threads to find it

sfxmum · 15/11/2006 09:46

it must be hard for Sue all the anxiety, bonding process, uncertainty and the reality of it all i guess.

hoxo - we are a bit of all in a bed household too, i think our bed is bug enough for when/if the 2nd child comes along

apparently west London is the repository of geekness, i feel a convention coming on

i am off to Kew soon, as soon as i feel less sick, and no i am not but sure feels like it today maybe it is just my sore throat.
anyhow does anyone want to come along? viruses and germs not withstanding

MrsBojangles · 15/11/2006 10:35

oh I finally got to watch the first 2 episodes of Torchwood... ooohaaa

Uwilalalalalala · 15/11/2006 10:43

Sue and Junior Update

MrsBojangles · 15/11/2006 10:54

Paddlechick666 · 15/11/2006 12:31

canot believe you SOLD yours! i have some of the original artwork books that I managed to inadvertantly steal. borrowed and never gave back.

Pud you can buy a few of his titles at Waterstones.

sfx, yeah i like reading full stop so have a pretty eclectic collection. one advantage of return to work is reading time. currently on Death of an Ordinary Man and it's breaking my heart tbh.

also sorry didn't mean to pry re: your mum. know what you mean tho.........

love StarGate, Star Trek, Torchwood, 5th Element, etc etc - getting the picture?

Uwila, thanks for shoes - forgot to say.

MrsBojangles · 15/11/2006 12:38
