Been here 7yrs now have 2 ds's 2yrs and 6months and am married to a pom so looks like I'm here for the long run! The closest I get to an aussie now is watching neighbours (I know its quite pathetic). Anyway if there are any others who fancy a catch up, I'm in west london?

Hi Quokka
it was cool to meet you yesterday too
Your two boys are so cute, how could they have scared me off motherhood
Our offer got accepted on that house so we are really excited now, just waiting for the builders report and stuff and then it should be all confirmed!

Kaybee7777 · 07/09/2006 18:21

oh and yeah I got home fine, it was def quicker going through london, thanks for the lift to the station!

quokka · 07/09/2006 19:20

not a problem kaybee, how exciting about your house! Fingers crossed for the building report, have you seen pictures by the way?

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 07/09/2006 22:48

Yeah we've seen pictures and my best friend went to have a look at it too which helped!
Fingers crossed for the exchange rate, damn nzd seems to be moving the wrong way for us now which is so annoying!

Kaybee7777 · 11/09/2006 09:41

Morning
Did you have a nice weekend quokka?
Anyone else re-appeared ???

quokka · 11/09/2006 13:08

Hey kaybee, don't worry I'm still here! Frantic weekend, visiting inlaws and enjoying the last of the sunshine .

It seems that whenever I suggest a meetup people tend to disappear . So I think I may start a new thread "roll call for aussie mums in London, who just want chat". Also I think I freaked out Sydsnow as every thread I've been on lately she's been on. I joked I wasn't a stalker but not sure if she believed me .

I was going through some stuff the other day, and I have a gorgeous fleecy snowsuit that you can borrow for baby. It's size is up to 3 months, and it's cream with baby blue trimmings and gingham lining. Also have steam steriliser, bottle warmer if your interested in borrowing them?

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 11/09/2006 13:59

Oh thank god, I was starting to worry you'd disappeared too !!! Why are people so afraid to meet up, it's not that scary

Thanks so much for offering to lend us stuff, it's really nice of you I would love to borrow all of it ! Does your offer to borrow the carseat still stand, as that would be fantastic too ( as long as you've definately finshed with it by the time we need it

quokka · 11/09/2006 14:51

of course its fine . Next time we meet up I suggest a car! Let me know what else is on your list and I'll see if I've got it. Actually I have got loads of clothes if you want? Just about to sort through it all. They grow up too quickly!

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 12/09/2006 13:57

LOL yeah I think a car will definately be needed!

Other exciting things on my list include moses basket stand, mobile, baby monitor and just your usual nappies, bottles, nappy bin, changing mat etc. Sigh. So much stuff for one small person
Would be a bit worried about borrowing clothes in case I forget which I bought and which were borrowed!!!

Saw something funny on my way to the library, a woman had put her child in the shopping basket bit on a pushchair! Very strange.......

Astrophe · 12/09/2006 14:01

I'm miles from London so can't see myself ever getting to a meet, but just wanted to say 'hi' to you fellow Aussies as I haven't seen this thread before.

quokka · 12/09/2006 16:23

Hi there, where are you and where are you from? Don't worry about meeting up, everytime I mention it people tend to disappear . Maybe they're just pretending to be an aussie!

OP posts:
quokka · 12/09/2006 16:26

Kaybee forget the nappy bin they're crap! I had one and got rid of it and just use nappy sacks when I need to. Also they do not keep the smell in they rather than make it worse

Astrophe · 12/09/2006 16:30

I'm in Derby -DH got a job here and we will stay for about 3 years total (been here 9 months).

I'm from Sydney and I REALLY miss it. There are no good cafes in Derby and theres nowhere nice to shop...and no beaches, obviously.

I have a DD 2.3 and a DS 6 months...I'm 26 tomorrow!

Where are all of you from (sorry, haven't read the whole thread).

Astrophe · 12/09/2006 16:31

oh, just read my post and realised how negative i sound! I do actually like it here, but am just missing home a lot.

cori · 12/09/2006 17:14

I have not disappeared, just being lazy. Still want to meetup, are we still on for the 30th

quokka · 12/09/2006 17:46

Astrophe I have ds 2.3yrs and ds 7 months and I was 30 last week! Happy birthday for tomorrow! Where abouts in Sydney, I lived there for a while.

Cori you should be ashamed of yourself! Anyone would think that you've had a baby recently . How was the hols?

OP posts:
quokka · 12/09/2006 17:52

Forgot to say I'm from Perth, but lived in Sydney (Bondi, Paddo) and Melbourne as well. Well if you want a shopping trip you can always come to London, just leave the vegemites with your DH one Saturday . I'll do the same and we'll pretend were a year younger and spend lots of money!

OP posts:
cori · 12/09/2006 20:32

Corfu was great, weather was beautiful and beaches were just how I like them, flat with no surf to speak of. Yeah am a bit of a wuss when it comes to the beach, I prefer the Med to the Pacific ocean. No chance of being dunked or eaten by a shark . Astrophe, what you need is a European mini break, so you can realise some of the benefits of living over here. Get DH to whisk you off to Paris alternatively you need to come to London. I dont even know where Derby is exactly.
I am from Newcastle (NSW) orignally, DH is from Sydney, I also lived in Sydney for a while. Bondi, Paddo etc.

Astrophe · 12/09/2006 23:56

Yes, I do need a European mini-break! But I am breastfeeding. Aaarggh! DH has to go to France in March next year so we are planning a holiday for then (with the kids) and a summer holiday without them to celebrate weaning (whenever that may happen!) Derby is dead cntre of the country - in the middle of the midlands. Its actually quite pretty (not the city itself, but the countryside) and the people are friendly, but its just such a backwater when it comes to restaurants, cafes, culture of any kind. I went to Birmingham to go shopping the other week (its about an hour south of here) and I felt so at home in the big, modern, bustling shopping centre!

Can you believe I've been in England 9 months and have not been to London!!! Its tragic. (I have been before though, don't worry). I really like London. Do you girls like living there? I'm not sure I would, much as I love it. I also love SPACE!

I have grew up in Neutral Bay and lived in Lane Cove with DH since we got married 4 years ago. Quiet possible we will end up in Newcastle though when we go back as DH is in Aerospace engineering and BA are there I believe.

quokka · 13/09/2006 08:37

Astrophe know what you mean about space. If dh office moves to Victoria Staion then we might move to East Sussex. Have a big yard with some chooks down the back . Also hoping that the schools might be better? We have one school in our catchment area and its terrible, just didn't think about stuff like that when we moved .

Cori, did you have a sandy beach or pebbles? I hate pebbles with a passion and dh hates sand with a passion! Its always a battle to choose where we go on holiday.

Anyone know of a a nice cottage in the country to rent for a week with an Aga in Nov? Preferably I would like it NOT to have velour sofas with floral wallpaper and a kitchen that hasn't been updated for 20yrs . Oh, and it can't have carpet in the kitchen or the bathroom!

OP posts:
quokka · 13/09/2006 11:37

Just had a call from the nieghbour and as ds1 is the only child her dd knows, he is the only child invited to her birthday party and I would feel horrible if he didn't go. Anyway I'm babbling, the party is on the 30th, the same day as the meetup. Do you think we could look at another day?

OP posts:
Kaybee7777 · 14/09/2006 13:21

No probs quokka, I just realised my friends are having their joint 30th birthday party on that day too
How is your week going? I am having a cr*p day, the exchange rates have just got worse so now our house is costing more

Kaybee7777 · 14/09/2006 13:41

Oh and Hi Astrophe I am a Kiwi (us antipodeans have to stick together!) I am in London and have been here 4 years. Am 30.5 weeks pg with my first baby......roll on Nov !

quokka · 14/09/2006 15:52

Oh no kaybee shame about the dollar .

Cori if your lurking would it be ok to reschedule the 30th. If not then I could still go to Kew in the morning?

OP posts:
cori · 14/09/2006 15:58

Yeah thats fine. I could probably do a week day meet up, but would have to leave by about 2.00pm ( to be on the safe side)
