Been here 7yrs now have 2 ds's 2yrs and 6months and am married to a pom so looks like I'm here for the long run! The closest I get to an aussie now is watching neighbours (I know its quite pathetic). Anyway if there are any others who fancy a catch up, I'm in west london?

Cori have things got better?

Eidsvold would like to think that one day we would move to Oz but am quite happy here and DH is very close to his family as he is the only child now. I don't think I could take the grandchildren away from them it would break their hearts. My mum and dad have got loads of gran kids over there.

Hi Everyone,
Just found this thread. I'm from Sth Aust, been here 8 yrs. Have an English husband and a 2yr old DD.Livng inEast Lon,Leyton so not far from kaybee7777. Just discovered I'm pg again about 6wks and feeling rubbish. Would love to meet up and sit around scoffing timtams, twisties and cherry ripes!! I have convinced my DH to move back to Oz so we will be selling up at the end of next year. I can't wait!! I really need to be near my family now that I have my own DD.The phone, email and webcam are just not enough!!
My mum was her for the birth of DD so I am sure she will be here for the next one too, she won't be able to stay away. Still haven't told her yet and hate that I can't tell her face to face.

quokka · 17/08/2006 17:40

hi aussie girl congrats and welcome . You and Kaybee should hook up, try sending her a cat. We haven't set a date for the meet up but it looks like it maybe in sept. Thinking Kew gardens, which is a bit of a trek for you guys but well worth it.

Hi there,
Aussie Mum-to-be here. So surprised there hasn't been a bigger response to this one!
I'm due in April, so just getting used to the whole concept at the mo.

quokka · 18/08/2006 11:08

Hi SydSnow welcome. How many weeks are you? Kaybee is expecting also. Where abouts in London are you? So may questions, but I get excited when I find another aussie as we seem to be rarity!

quokka · 18/08/2006 11:11

Aussie girl is also expecting! So looks like there will be lots of little vegemites around London

Hi aussiegirl and sydsnow!
I live in south woodford, aussiegirl, so we are practically neighbours!

SydSnow · 18/08/2006 15:11

Only 7 weeks, so early days.
I'm living in Chelsea.

quokka · 18/08/2006 15:34

Congrats, I loved being pregnant and I'm sure I'll have another but in a couple of years . How long have you been here for? Is you dh aussie or a pom?

If you want to buy a pregancy book try Birth and Beyond, it covers everything and it has the most beautiful pictures. It's not as clinical as some out there, but it's heavy, so not something you can read on the tube!

Hi Quokka,
I was born here and lived here till I was 5 Mum's English, Dad's Australian). Have been living back here for a year and a half now. DH is Aussie.
DH has bought me a number of books already, but thanks for the advice. I think he buys them more for himself than for me and he has begun to start most of his sentences with "Did you know..." followed by his latest revelation - quite sweet really!

quokka · 18/08/2006 15:51

WOW my dh takes great pride in the fact that he read obsolutely nothing. When I had ds1 he was shitting himself he had no idea what was going on. Everytime the midwife said something I would have to translate for him

SydSnow · 18/08/2006 15:57

Def won't be my problem! By the time he's finished he'll be able to administer an epidural and perform a c-section!

quokka · 18/08/2006 16:15

great love it! If you want a really light pregnant read then kaz cook does a book called the rough guide to pregnancy and its hillarious

Hi to all the newbies. I actually met another Australian mum in RL yesterday, but unfortunately she is going back in September.

Quokka, I have finally booked a holiday. We are going to Corfu for a week leaving the 28th of August, back on the 5th of September.

quokka · 18/08/2006 16:54

Cori, that sounds great. We went to corfu last July with ds1 and it was lovely. Have some lamb chops for me

OP posts:
SydSnow · 18/08/2006 17:08

Just got back from Corfu a couple of weeks ago!
Where are you going to stay?

quokka · 18/08/2006 17:21

I can't remember where we stayed but we never left the villa, it had a huge garden and pool. Dh was sent out to get food and icecreams (I was pregnant with ds2)

We are staying in a resort. Calimera, has anyone travelled there with babies? DS is 3 months old, and is mixed fed. He has about two bottles of milk per day, just wondering if the water is safe or if Evian water is readily available?

quokka · 21/08/2006 16:25

defo use bottled water. Even the locals don't drink the tap water. It's so cheap over there, makes you wonder why it's so expensive here!

Hi all you Aussie Mummie's in London-town! I am an Aussie mum in Edinburgh and if you think it is hard to come by Aussie's in London, you should try it up here. They are all travelling and the only mum I have met is SOOOOO quiet - made it hard for conversation!

Anyway, obviously I am too far away for a catch-up but keeping in touch and hearing your stories online is great!

I have a 15 month old girl and I come from Sydney. I have lived in Edinburgh for 5 1/2 years and am off to Oz to introduce the baby at Christmas (any suggestions for a peaceful flight??)! I am married to a funloving Scot and while it is a great month to be in Edinburgh (Festival), I am really looking forward to having a true, hot Christmas!

cori · 22/08/2006 21:58

congratulations Tamara, welcome to our aussie 'clique' I took DS to Sydney when he was one. my top tip is get a night flight, baby will probably sleep for the first half the flight.

aussiegirl · 22/08/2006 22:53

Welcome tamara,
We took our dd to Oz when she was 5mth old and would definately reccomend a night flight and even a stopover with a night in a hotel. Believe me I know how exciting it is to get home quickly but a decent nights sleep in a bed is priceless...
We flew JAL and they were brilliant, amazing, fabulous. Especially when they upgraded us to business class. Yeehaa!
Also take more food, snacks, drinks and calpol than you think you will need, that is if you are allowed by then. Get a bulkhead seat with a bassinet and try to check in early and you may be given an extra seat if the flight isn't too full.
Prepare to walk the aisles often, get dirty looks from other passengers (even before you have taken off!!)and not be able to watch TV because the bassinet stops the tv folding out.
No matter what happens good or bad it is all forgotten the moment you get to show off your beautiful baby to your family. Wear waterproof mascara!!
