Been here 7yrs now have 2 ds's 2yrs and 6months and am married to a pom so looks like I'm here for the long run! The closest I get to an aussie now is watching neighbours (I know its quite pathetic). Anyway if there are any others who fancy a catch up, I'm in west london?

kiwi, why don't you just ask them to buy 6-12months. That way you know what they'll get you. I find the first 6 months they grow so quickly and its easier just putting them in white baby grows. I find peple buy the smallest size as they are usually the cutest! I have so many first sizes that they never even got to wear

Kiwibella when are you due?

Most of the clothes I got from Oz were size 0 which seems to be 0-3 months over here.

I agree with Quokka on the newborn stuff, tis so cute but waaaay easier to have them in babygros at this stage. My dd hates having anything pulled over her head so babygros which button up the front are much easier and have easy access to the bum and nappies

KaybeeandZak · 03/01/2007 19:24

mellin, I find that sizes from home are smaller than here... My friend sent over a jacket from pumpkin patch in nz in newborn size and I could barely fit DS in it! And whenever I send her stuff from here it's way too big for her DD.

I have been given sooo many cute outfits for DS in size 0-3 and i have no idea how he is going to ever wear them all! He isnt too bad having stuff pulled over his head, so if we are going out I put him in something cute, but mostly it's just baby grows all the way...

KaybeeandZak · 04/01/2007 12:23

Oh and it would be good to try to get together soon, somewhere in the middle would be good! Not sure where, but I am sure we could brave the tube some time soon!

cinnamontam · 04/01/2007 19:49

Hey ladies,

Very glad to come apon this thread. I'm am Aussie from Perth living in Putney (married to a Melbourne boy) and 5 months pregnant. I lived in Melbourne for 9 years before we moved to London 2.5 years ago. Bought a house now and I'm preggers so I guess we are here for a little while longer. Not sure if you do any meetups but would love to catch up with other Aussie and Antipodean mum's and mums to be.

Tam

quokka · 04/01/2007 22:39

Hi Tam, I'm from Perth too. Been here 8yrs and married to a pom. Lived in Sydney and Melbourne before that.

Have 2 ds's one is 2.5yrs and the other is 1 at the end of the month .

I'm in Gunnersbury, so not too far from you and your more than welcome to come to the next meetup. No date yet but we're trying to find a place in the middle of east and west london thats baby/kid friendly and has good cake

Mellin · 05/01/2007 09:35

Welcome Tam! I am an Aussie too, live in Fulham so we are nearly neighbours. Have a dd who is 9 weeks.

I went to the Natural History Museum in Kensington on the weekend and thought it would be a great place for a meet-up. But it's in the west. So how about the British Museum? Anyone been to any of the cafes there? Might be a good place, and about half way between us all (near Holborn).

KaybeeandZak · 05/01/2007 11:24

Hi Tam, I am the odd one out, the Kiwi from East London!

British Museum sounds cool, but am worried Zak's constant screaming might echo through the entire place

quokka · 05/01/2007 11:40

We could go to those posh loos opposite Slefridges where you can get a massage, and they have baby facilities! Costs £5 but I think you can stay there as long as you like .

Can you imagine dh saying "what did you get up to today"

"oh just hung out at the toilets on Oxford St, it was lovely."

Have a look here

OP posts:
KaybeeandZak · 05/01/2007 12:24

hahaha looks very posh, cant believe its £5 to get in!!

cinnamontam · 05/01/2007 16:57

Sounds great everyone. I'm still full-time at work so I guess any catch-up would need to be evenings during the week or weekends but whatever you organise I'm there with bells on.
Have car and Oyster card and will travel...

The loo's at Selfridges sounds rather good Quokka - would definitely be up for that. Won't be able to afford massages when I'm on maternity leave so may as well get in as many as i can now

kiwibella · 05/01/2007 21:10

hey, Kaybee... you not the only Kiwi living in East London!!!

Great to see you here Tam - I am from NZ and have been living here with dh and dd (10) for three years. We are now expecting a likkle kiwi at the end of Feb... and, if hubs has his way, we'll be here forever

quokka · 06/01/2007 12:07

Hey Tam where do you work? Maybe we can meet you on your lunch hour?

Where abouts in Perth are you from, and how old are you (hope you don't mind me asking)?!

I'm from Mount Lawley, and am 30yrs old, wouldn't it be funny if we knoew each other .

OP posts:
cinnamontam · 06/01/2007 19:36

Hey Quokka - I work in Mayfair just off Berkley Square. That anywhere near you?

I'm 29E (35 . I went to WAAPA in Mount Lawley and lived in that area for about 4 years then moved to Melbourne for 9 years. Still love that area. Swish n' Chips is the best fish and chips around i reckon and I used to got to Fresh Prov all the time when I had the munchies up late studying. Would be great to catch up you. I was in Perth for a week just before Christmas seeing my family and I went for a swim at City Beach the day I flew back. Next day back in London shopping on High St Ken with DH trying to keep awake and had a big cry in the middle of H&M cause i found sand in my belly button...made me soooo homesick.

quokka · 07/01/2007 09:31

Tam I'm a sahm so work from home, but if we find somewhere in town close to you then we can try to hook up? It's hard on the tube with 2 boys under 3yrs.

I'm a bit out of touch with Perth now, haven't lived there for 15yrs!

My dh proposed to me on Cottesloe beach, couldn't go swimming because there had been shark attacks!

KaybeeandZak · 08/01/2007 11:25

Sounds scary!!
Would love to come along to celebrate his 1st b'day, will have to see how mr grumpy is behaving by then though!

quokka · 08/01/2007 12:59

Kaybe have you started doing the baby massage? I have a friend who is an aromotherapist, who does some great baby blends. She can post stuff out to you, but it helps to know how to massage baby.

OP posts:
KaybeeandZak · 08/01/2007 13:52

too embarrassed to take him out in public
I thought you were supposed to wait till they were 6 weeks? i do plan to try and take him to baby massage but keep forgetting to find out about the places near by

quokka · 08/01/2007 14:11

Nah you can do it now. Have you tried a dummy?

OP posts:
KaybeeandZak · 08/01/2007 17:19

Yeah but he spits them out. Another mum i met on mumsnet has lent me a dvd called happiest baby on the block, which has tips to calm a hysterical baby. Have started trying them out today, so DS is now swaddled, in his moses basket, listening to radio static !! And fast asleep This is his 3rd sleep today, so that is pretty good for him. Long may it continue

KaybeeandZak · 08/01/2007 17:20

Oh and he is almost 6 weeks anyway, on Wed! I just can't believe it - where has the time gone....
Made an enquiry about baby massage class just down the road, it starts next week or the week after so might be full up, but we'll see

oh and sorry I forgot about you kiwibella when i said i was the odd one out - baby haze!!!

Mellin · 08/01/2007 18:08

Yay on the sleep Kaybee, whatever works hey! Do you have a bouncy chair? DD loves hers and will fall asleep in it at will. Magic.

We've tried loads of different things, but I reckon it's only in the last couple of weeks that she's settled down and is sleeping much better. I think she's just realised that sleep is GOOD and not to fight it so much. This change has miraculously coincided with her grandparents visiting from Oz. They think she is an angel. So I'm sure she will revert to previous behaviour once they leave.

Just booked our flights to Oz today. Leaving in March and staying for 2 months!! Quokka am already stocking up on Medised!

O2BMe · 08/01/2007 23:52

Hello ladies,

Have just found this thread. I'm an Aussie from Rockhampton, QLD living in Teddington. Been in London nearly 7 years. Married to another Aussie - we were married before moving over here. Have a DS who is 8mths old today. Currently a SAHM and hope to stay that way. Know of only 1 other Aussie Mum living near me but would love to meet up with more.

Look forward to hearing from you all.

quokka · 09/01/2007 08:50

Hi O2BMe and welcome, the more the merrier! I'm from Perth been here coming on 8 years and no sign of going home.

Have ds1 2yrs and ds2 1yr at the end of the month! I'm in Gunnersbury and we sometimes meet up at Kew Gardens. Usually have loads of free passes, unless my ds1 decides to kidnap my purse .

We're looking to meetup somewhere in the middle of east and west London next - any ideas?
