I'm bored so here's a new thread to organise our August meet-up

Uwila suggested
10 August or
24 August

I can do 24th

fatfox · 25/08/2006 22:51

I thought Kagool was a mediocre pop band from the 80's?

"Its too hi-dee-hi, sssh shhh, why-di-why". Surely you remember?

sfxmum - are you attending the meet on 31 August, as the lovely suejonez's residence? You'll see us all in our kagools.

Had anyone been in Weather Vain on Sandycombe Road, Kew? Its a porno shop, masquerading as a rain coat shop.

Or so I'm told..

Uwila · 26/08/2006 08:17

Ah, like the jac in a sac thing they sell at Millets. Almost bought one about a month ago. In fact, if you really want to know how sad I am, I was going to buy one fore each member of the family, then I decided just to spend all that money on a nicer jacket for DH.

So, Sue, any news on travel dates? Is anyone else interested in Kew Gardens followed by the fair on Sept. 02???? Pop over to the Kew Garden thread if you are.

Paddlechick666 · 26/08/2006 08:37

okay, i'm new so bear with me but I can never seem to find the other threads when they're mentioned!

I think I'd like to go to Kew on Sept 2nd but I looked on the Meet Ups page and I searched all threads for Kew Gardens and turned up zilch.

Please help a poor struggling newbie!!

PC666

ps: it might be coz i've gone box blind. it's a bit like snow blind but not so fun coz it involves brown removals boxes........
WILL IT EVER END?!

suejonez · 26/08/2006 10:08

suejonez · 26/08/2006 10:13

Fatfox - had heard the same thing about the mac shop , I dare you to investigate, I'm sure you need a new mac...

Uwila, no dates yet, I'm trying to prepare for 15 Sept as thats the earlier I would possibly go so that any date later than that would result in a haven of peace and serenity Chez Jonez (hah!)

MrsBigD · 26/08/2006 10:19

fatfox that was Kajagoogoo at least that's the phonetic spelling and boy did I suffer when they were in top of the pops...

Did someone say they could lend me a snowsuit age 12 months to take to KAz with me - someone did but I can't remember who?

AAAAARRGH - I seem to have having phantom pregnancy hormones and am losing my marbles.

MrsBigD · 26/08/2006 18:11

yes I'm sure I saw somebody offering you a snowsuit... brain not working either though and that's without 2.5year pregnancy.

I'm sure I've got one somewhere! Dark Blue and padded as. I'll have a look and if I can find it I'll bring it Thursday.

OP posts:
quokka · 26/08/2006 19:23

Don't have snowsuit but do have Gap warmest coat. Got feathers in it and fleece lining so really snug. It's beige, I'm limited with colurs as ds1 is a gingernut . Let me know if you want me to bring it on Thurs.

Uwila · 26/08/2006 20:12

I have a very cute (if I do say so myself!) 12 months two piece snow suit. It has overalls/dungarees and matching coat with detachable hood. (so if junior decides to have a wee on the overalls, you still have a the coat to keep him warm. It is really cute and hardly worn. My DS has of course outgrown it so you are more than welcome to it. I'll bring on thursday if you want it. Let me know. Do you know that 12 month clothes are the target size now? I'm sure I could dig out loads more 12 month clothes if you want.

suejonez · 26/08/2006 21:52

I'm aiming for 12 months as even if the baby is a bit older they will be small. Orphanage children have a delay of about 1 month for every three they're in an institution (as a rule of thumb).

I sprecifically need a snow suit or something very like it as you are expected to provide one for them to leave the orphanage.

Perhaps you could all bring a selection and I'll choose "best in show"

(thanks, though, very kind everyone)

Uwila · 26/08/2006 22:07

Do youknow yet if it's a boy or a girl. I seem to recall you think it will probably be a boy.

suejonez · 26/08/2006 22:08

I'm told 90% likely to be a boy (will be so shocked if its a girl!)

fatfox · 27/08/2006 07:57

Suejonez - you seem to have a wide range of snow suits to pick from now . the difficulty will be choosing...which one, um, shall I go for the feather lined, or the navy? . If I can't a chance tomorrow, I'll have a dig for one around too.

If s/he is a girl she can where boys clothes anyway can't s/he, on the way back here etc.

Its so exiting - you poor thing, you must be on tenderhooks waiting for that date to come through.

Re. Weather Vain; well I did go in there when I was about 18, as a dare from my um actually, as we were both curious about it. They had a rail of rubber rain coats, and a mysterious and grubby looking curtain, behind which lots of men kept going. I think they must have had videos behind there, but was too scared to go behind and look.

I'm tempted to go in there for a laugh, and pronounce very loudly, in my best Kew voice, "hello young man, do you still sell those lovely naughty magazines? I do so love a bit of spice in my life, don't you?"

eeerrr, anyway....

Hi Paddlechicks - It would be great if you could join us on 2 Sept for Kew Gardens

Quokka, I now what you mean about gingernuts - I have exactly the same problem myself - I can't wear navy as it makes me look too pale, can't wear red, pink makes my face look ruddy etc. When we were looking at schools, I was worried that if I had ginger babies their hair might clash with the school uniforms! My fave colour at the moment is mocha/palish brown, which I feel compliments my complexion rather nicely

Mrs BigD - Glad I'm not the only one who's old even to remember Kajagoogoo !!!

Uwila · 27/08/2006 08:50

MrsBigD, I've just left you a message on your mobile re photo shoot schedule.

bumpmakestwo · 27/08/2006 11:23

I remember Kajagoogoo but was a little embarrassed to admit it but hey the majority of us have admitted to having a fettish about rainmacs so I know we are amoungst friends!

Ohhhh .. hello everyone from a regular lurker on this lovely board Are people meeting at Kew Gdns tomorrow as DD and I were thinking of popping along, as it happens!

Paddlechick, I am a 38 yr old mum of 19 month old DD - also living in Isleworth and I have been back at work since March. How are you finding Isleworth?

Paddlechick666 · 27/08/2006 21:59

phew, finally dd has gone to bed!

after a busy afternoon at a lovely picnic in Richmond Park you'd think she'd have flaked earlier!

FatFox, thanks. I''ll keep you posted re: 2nd.

Hi Bunyanvillas, I am LOVING Isleworth so far! Had a nice walk over to Richmond yesterday arvo with a bit of a frenzy in ELC. Must've been the caffeine rush!
Spent this arvo chilling with old friends that haven't seen since Xmas.
Had a fabulous Thai take-away delivered Friday night.
We're back in civilisation for sure!

What's up with the flight-path tho? Some days it's really quiet and others it's like they're landing on the roof at 5:30am.

Got any advice on childcare locally?

Cheers
PC666

MrsBigD · 27/08/2006 23:00

I think the 'official' Kew get together is 2nd September.

I'm meeting Uwila tomorrow in the attempt to get her lo's to pose long enough to make a good portraits. Failing that, lots of candid action shots with high zoom . I will succeed!

OP posts:
bunyanvillas · 28/08/2006 07:15

PC, where'dya get the fab thai takeaway from? Yes, Isleworth is very underated although a fabulous coffee shop wouldn't go amiss. As for the flight path ... I think it depends which way the wind is blowing! Which seems to generally be in our direction! My dd has been going to Whitton Day Nursery since the age of 13 months and she loves it. I'm pretty impressed with the whole set-up there. There are other, more local nurseries such as 9 months - have a look on the OFSTED site for the list plus that all important OFSTED report. I also met a few childminders in the area but didn't meet anyone I wanted to leave dd with (hence the nursery decision). No doubt they are all nice people and very good at their jobs - I just didn't click with them. It's such a personal thing! You can find a list of childminders on the surestart website.

fatfox · 28/08/2006 08:38

Hi Chicks - sorry, can't advise on childcare in Isleworth as its not our area. However, have used several nurseries (private and public) and childminders and experience was:

Private nursery: Lovely organic food but far too expensive
Public nurseries: Much cheaper and both were fantastic
Childminders - didn't like the first one and she fibbed/cut corners etc
Current childminder is a GEM, I would trust her with my life (as well as with kiddies) and she is vey flexible about my funny work hours - also does school run etc

My advice is just go with your instinct on this. Your gut feeling will tell you which choice is right when you go to see nurseries/child minders. If you see one and it doesn't feel right, trust your instinct.

Paddlechick666 · 28/08/2006 10:46

hi Bunyanvillas

it was Gourmet Oriental, we had a fiesty chicken pad thai and a mandarin duck which were fabulous. the mixed box appetiser was a bit disappointing. their menu is like a book, you can get Thai, Chinese, Japanese all from the same place. Delish!

we tend to walk down to St Margarets for coffee and cake - hark at me sounding like a local after 5 minutes....

FatFox, thanks for the tips. Not sure difference between private and public nursery but am doing research now.
Have emailed some childminders from netmums.com and joined thenannysharers.co.uk so will see what transpires.

Will definately be following instincts.

Happy Bank Holiday All.
