Righto, we're at that time of the year again where a Christmas Piss Up in London Town is needed. I propose a date a few weeks before so as many as possible can join in - how about Saturday 23rd November.

This has only been mooted last night, so I've not even got a venue as yet, but I have some ideas. I will, of course and usual, try to make it an easily get-to-able-near-a-traveldodgy place so that those that come into London can take advantage of cheapy rooms in advance.

So...please can y'all start putting names down so I have an idea of numbers initially and I'll get cracking with a venue in the next week or so. Further down the line I'll put the usual FB Group together (for those who are both on FB and happy to join) - I won't be posting the venue on MN as I'd prefer the hairy of hand not to know. Those not on FB I'll chat via PM near the time.

Oh my lord at IT sourcing. Do you have to deal with Oracle and SAP?

Valpollicella · 28/09/2013 21:31

Porto you lovely thing not sucking up at all

How much is it over there?

Hepsi. am tgere. trufax Grin

Portofino · 28/09/2013 21:31

Oh yes - we have that shower of shite in too.
Charge 100s of thousands to present a generic PowerPoint saying we can save loads on our laptop budget by buying shit cheap ones instead.

Portofino · 28/09/2013 21:34

Yes to Oracle and SAP and I get MIcrosoft for added enjoyment.

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 21:36

Because we are public sector they just see pound signs and think we are all as thick as two short planks and don't know what we are doing.

The problem is public sector IS full of complete doughbakes and so I don't blame them for chancing it.

But Jesus the millions and millions of pounds which is spent on consultants. I used to read Private Eye and think it was all a huge exaggeration but it is just the tip of the iceberg.

I will shit up now and stop boring everyone to death on a Saturday night.

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 21:38

Shit up? Marvellous typo, getorf, marvellous. Hmm

Oh yes oracle and their 98% list price discounts.

And Microsoft with their Byzantine licensing programme designed to catch you out and discombobulate you in order that you spend more than you need to or even worse fail an audit.

Portofino · 28/09/2013 21:38

My company is 51% state owned. They are just waking up to it really.

Bimblepops · 28/09/2013 21:39

Ooh, I used to do that delightful job too. Happily I was made redundant when I was on Mat leave with DS1. Shame!

marriedinwhiteisback · 28/09/2013 21:39

I felt fat and old Gav. Wurzel gummage my backside Grin. And less of the worse than HR - my DD was once asked what I did by her form teacher and she said ever so sweetly "she's in charge of performance management and quality Miss" she's quite cute my dd; she tells her friends I sack teachers.

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 21:40

Oh I am going to carry on anyway and bore the thread I am sorry.

I HATE it and want to go back to working for companies which make aeroplanes and where the projects I work on are actually THINGS WHICH ARE MADE like aeroplane wings or cockpit displays and I speak to lovely geeky engineers from Texas

Portofino · 28/09/2013 21:44

LeGav, I was short listed for a job at Boeing. I was so upset to not get it. You and I need to get together when NOT drunk and network. Wink are you on LinkedIn?

HepsibarCrinkletoes · 28/09/2013 21:45

Suppose I need to make a list now.

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 21:45

Fat and old my arse married.

Portofino · 28/09/2013 21:48

Do you want me to FB, Hesp? Trying to be helpful vs pissing on your chips...

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 21:50

Oh god to work for Boeing. I used to work for GE aviation and treated Boeing like they were GODS.

I applied for a job at Airbus and got it, but by the time I got there they had sold the manufacturing division to GKN (still a wonderful company to work for). I loved the airbus attitude to suppliers which was effectively a Gallic shrug and 'we are airbus, you need to do what we say'. I was lured by the money to automotive and thence to the public sector and now can't go back because manufacturing is so poorly paid in comparison, stupidly.

Sorry to bore the rest of the thread, Porto you and I could moan for HOURS. I am not on linkedin, I am making a Luddite stand.

BellaVita · 28/09/2013 21:51

Married you are one big fibber! You are not old and no way are you fat.

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 21:53

She is a fibber isn't she Bella?

marriedinwhiteisback · 28/09/2013 21:54

Christ I can imagine.

I always fantasised about working in the city in the 80s in LIFFE with coloured blazers.

LeGavrOrf · 28/09/2013 22:00

Hepzibah you can delete cuntyxuntastico from that list because that was me on a namechange Grin

marriedinwhiteisback · 28/09/2013 22:01

Now the LIFFE boys were something else. Remembers a restaurant called School Dinners being wrecked and my bank being delivered a very big bill and the head of the trading floor swearing a lot and storming to the Head of HR Grin.
