Have asked before, is there any body out there. I feel as if no one lives in Streatham. If yo do, don't be shy. I can wait to meet others around here.

no, went to Wales and had a lovely time. I'll email you about meeting up. isnt this fun!

Let's try and catch up very soon xxxxx

Verso · 16/06/2006 16:37

Woohoo! :)

I'm off home shortly as our server is down (hence the naughty MN-ing during the day!) so will look forward to the email. Have a great w/e!

(Sorry for the thread hijack, everyone else Blush.)

Hallgerda · 16/06/2006 21:50

Verso, I'm afraid you've been talking to some competitive parents. It's not worth looking at state primary schools until your daughter is at least 2, or even later if you're not interested in a nursery place. If you're right by Hillside Gardens then your local primary school is either SW or H - my three sons are at H and doing fine. SW has a good local reputation. So don't panic!

Verso · 16/06/2006 22:17

Oh good to hear we have some time yet. I did think it was a tad premature! Has anyone read "May Contain Nuts"? It's quite silly (and annoying) in parts, but bits of it are spot-on about the whole competitive parenting thing. You know, like 'my baby only eats hand-knitted muesli' or 'my baby doesn't just sign - she signs in Serbo Croat'... snort

Of course, I would never be guilty of 'bigging up' myyyyy child... >innocent emoticon

Hallgerda · 17/06/2006 18:39

Verso, there's a "May Contain Nuts" thread \linkwww.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1377&threadid=181459&stamp=060615171126\here}. I agree the book was a bit silly, but spot-on on competitive parenting and some aspects of the secondary transfer process (which I've just been through with DS1). And doesn't it make you feel glad to live in the right part of South London Wink.

Hallgerda · 17/06/2006 18:40

Whoops! Messed up that link - sorry. Should be \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1377&threadid=181459&stamp=060615171126\here}.

serenity · 20/06/2006 11:05

just bumping for anyone else who might be around on Friday!

Hallgerda · 22/06/2006 08:13

Bumping for tomorrow

Hallgerda · 22/06/2006 17:38

I went to Hillside Gardens today and found that the entrance near Hillside Passage and the John Company pub is closed for tennis court works, but the other two entrances (off Hillside Road opposite Downton Avenue and off Kingsmead Road) are both open. For those who do not live close to the park, parking is probably simplest near the entrance by Downton Avenue.

I'm looking forward to seeing those of you that can come tomorrow!

mafalda1 · 22/06/2006 20:10

Hope you can all make it. I will be the one with 1 girl age 4 and 3 boys ages 6 & 3.
See you then.

Hi. I'm going to have a look at DD's new nursery tomorrow so won't be able to get there until 5'ish. Will any of you still be there at this time? If so I'll certainly come along.

Hallgerda · 23/06/2006 12:51

I'm quite likely to be there at 5pm, Non25, but regret I cannot give a 100% commitment as one of my three children may have other ideas or need the loo!

I hope the nursery visit goes well.

serenity · 23/06/2006 12:53

I'll probably be there at 5, I don't need to leave until about 5.30

Blu · 23/06/2006 12:53

Sorry - I'm a 'no'. Have had to change school-run shifts with DP because of work.
Have a lovely time, and really sorry not to be meeting those of you I don't know, and catching up with those I do.

serenity · 23/06/2006 12:54

Sorry to here that Blu, hopefully we can arrange something else soon?

Verso · 04/07/2006 22:14

So how did it go? Or are you all not speaking now you've actually met?

Hallgerda · 05/07/2006 20:52

LOL Verso! Yes, mafalda1, serenity and I all met and got on fine.

I know you'd like a meet-up over a weekend sometime - I almost certainly won't be able to make it, but I'm sure plenty of other people would like one. If you're worried about treading on anybody's toes, don't be. Go on - suggest a time and place! You don't need to do anything else. It might be a good idea to make it after 21 July as the end of term is rather busy for those with school age children what with school performances, sports days, fairs and the like.

cp1980 · 12/07/2006 22:03

I live in Streatham Common and would love to meet up when your next doing it. At 25 I'm the only one of my friends with a baby and I really need adult company before I start talking like a Playschool presenter.

Hallgerda · 14/07/2006 16:53

Welcome to the thread, cp1980! Don't worry about sounding like a Playschool presenter, but see your GP immediately if you start to resemble a Teletubby. I'm stuck in the end of term whirlwind at the moment and I suspect many others are, hence the lack of activity here.

mafalda1 · 15/07/2006 22:42

Hi there every one. We all seem to be tied up at the moment. My son has finished for the summer so have been trying to keep him entertained. I am around most days for the next couple of weeks. So if anyone fancies a meet up let me know.

mafalda1 (and anyone else near Hillside Gardens), do you know about the Woodcraft Folk Lambeth Playout sessions, 3.30 to 5.30 on Thursdays (the notices in the park suggest that there may also be a 12.30 to 2.30 session, but that didn't happen last Thursday). It's going on in other Lambeth parks and estates as well - I posted details on this thread .

Streatham Pool is charging 50p per person - adult or child - for swimming over the holidays - the day is split into three sessions - 10 to 11.45, and two other sessions between 12 noon and 4pm and you pay to go to one session. Yes, I know there's a fair bit wrong with the place (cold water, can't park anywhere near, general flakiness) but it's not a bad deal...

NickieSW16 · 14/08/2006 14:24

Hi Streatham mums .. I'm new to the area and have 2 girls, nearly 3 and 1 and another one on the way. We've only lived here 3 weeks and I've been back at work for 2 .. so I haven't had much of a chance to get to know the area. Feel a bit isolated though as I never see anyone pushing a buggy around ( GLeneldon/Stanthorpe roads). I would love to come and join you next time you meet up though. I have noticed that all the nice things to do / cafes seem up around Streatham Hill and I live more towards the common - does anyone else live in my area ?

cjs76 · 15/08/2006 20:03

Hi Nickiesw16

I live near you on Ellison Road - I have a son who is nearly 2 and no 2 is due today - no sign yet tho!! would be happy to meet up soon once no 2 has arrived

NickieSW16 · 16/08/2006 13:15

Great ! Good luck with the impending birth and I'd like to meet up when you're a bit more settled with 2, I found it a bit chaotic for the 1st 6 weeks or so, then my husband tore his achilles and I had a nervous breakdown as I went from 1 to 3 babies in 6 weeks ..
No, you'll be fine, thanks for the message. My email is [email protected]. maybe you can let me know when you'll be free and hopefully I'll be on maternity leave by then.
