Have asked before, is there any body out there. I feel as if no one lives in Streatham. If yo do, don't be shy. I can wait to meet others around here.

mafalda1, it looks as if most people can do after school on Fridays. I'd guess that 4pm would be a reasonable time - I could manage earlier. However, I may have to leave early this week as DS1 will be returning from his school journey sometime between 4.30 and 6pm. As belgianbun can't make it this Friday, would next Friday (23rd) be a better idea?

serenity · 12/06/2006 20:42

We've got a birthday party this friday, so I'd vote for the 23rd too. 4pm sounds fine.

I work evenings, so I can't do anything too late anyway.

mafalda1 · 14/06/2006 13:09

Yes next friday 24th June, sounds fine at 4pm. Anyone else feel like coming, just add your name to this list.

What did I miss there then?

OK, I'm definitely on for next week then Smile

redjulieb · 14/06/2006 15:13

Hiyya - I'm in West Norwood too and would love to meet some people in the area. We use Hillside Gardens a bit, and Brockwell Park. Can I join in the meet up - is it Friday 23 4pm ?- whereabouts??

I've lurked on your threads a few times BB. {smile]

You all seem to have very little ones, and I know the current meetup is dead on school pick up time so never quite made it on there with my big galumphing kids Grin

Verso · 14/06/2006 21:24

I'm in Streatham too :) but can't make your meet-up (if I were to be so bold as to introduce and invite myself I mean) because I work full-time. I'll be with you in spirit though! Grin

redjulieb · 15/06/2006 08:45

Hello Belgianbun !!! Yes, I never seemed to make it to those Forest Hill meetups. I can sometimes make Thursdays (not today though!) and always Fridays. What days are you around Belgianbun?

There always seem to be probs meeting up - with everyone having various commitments and school, work dates etc. Is a weekend meet up an impossibility for you guys - Verso, Hallgerda, Serenity, Mafalda - anyone else??

Anyway, I could do this Streatham one next Friday - if that's ok with those meeting?? Dunno where it is though!

serenity · 15/06/2006 10:32

We're meeting in Hillside gardens, but haven't said exactly where yet. I've never been there so it'll have to be down to one of the others to name a place. Everyone's welcome Smile

Hallgerda · 15/06/2006 11:25

How about meeting somewhere near the circular table in the dog-free (well, free from the ones that read notices anyway...) sloping grassy area just below the one o'clock club? The children can play with balls, frisbees etc. round there if they wouldn't rather go to the playground (which you can see from the round bench, especially if your children are wearing colourful clothes!)

redjulieb, of course you're very welcome. The meet-up is on Friday 23rd June at 4pm in Hillside Gardens (watch this thread while the precise location is determined). If you look down the thread to janinlondon's posting of 10 May at 12:00 you'll find a link to the Streetmap page showing where the park is. You raised the possibility of a weekend meet-up. Weekends are a little awkward for me as they're very much "whole family time" and tend to be taken up with expeditions, shopping, cricket, visiting relatives etc.

serenity, mafalda and belgianbun, you've been to meet-ups before, so we need your advice on the etiquette. How are we going to recognise each other? Does one bring some food/drink? (Bear in mind that Hillside Gardens does not have any loos apart from those in the one o'clock club, and no cafe either, just a dodgy water fountain. I imagine the one o'clock club probably would allow desperate toddlers to use their facilities, particularly if offered a bribe, but they close at 4.30 sharp).

serenity · 15/06/2006 12:12

As it's an after school type of meet up rather than a lunch meet up I wouldn't worry about food/drink other than anything you'd normally bring for your own tbh.

This is MN, we have no etiquette! Normally it's pretty easy to spot people as they'll be looking around shiftily, but I've done balloons, hair ribbons, descriptions and never missed anyone yet! I think I'm fairly recognisable - tall (5'11) long reddish hair, overweight Blush with two DSs (tall 8 yr old, string bean 6 yr old) and pita 2.7 DD (tall, permatan, mad mad curly brown hair)

Blu · 15/06/2006 12:18

I'm going to tray and come! I have met Serenity before..meeting round the table is a good idea.

Verso · 15/06/2006 20:17

OMG! I can't believe you're meeting in Hillside Gardens. No fair that I'm at work (boo hiss). I live reeeeeeely close to there. Do I know you lot already, I wonder?!

Ooh, can you do one at a weekend at some point? Redjulieb I would be there like a shot! Grin

mafalda1 · 16/06/2006 00:10

Hi there everyone.
The round table sounds good at Hillside gardens.
I always take drinks for the kids as I don't like them drinking the water there.
I can do meet ups at the weekend.

Don't worry about recognising others, we always look lost. I will be there with 4 kids 3 boys and one girl, ages 6, 4, 3x2.
See you al there.

I think the weather next week is meant to be nice, but it might be an idea to have an agreement on what happens if it rains. So, rain at the time we're meeting = postponement?

serenity · 16/06/2006 10:10

clicked too soon...,

Also wanted to say that I've got a big group meeting at the top Streatham paddling pool at 12.30ish on wednesday if anyone's interested. Me and another mum are supposed to be taking over the running of our schools M&T group, but it's all gone hideously wrong because the CRB checks are taking forever and we can't run it at the school until they come through (last organiser left at short notice at Easter, haven't been able to meet since Sad) Anyway we've arranged a big 'playdate' at the pool as an interim measure, and any of you are more than welcome to join us Smile

Blu · 16/06/2006 10:13

hello Verso! Do you have a primary school age child in the area? Give us the initials of the school!

Hallgerda · 16/06/2006 10:33

I agree with serenity that it would be best to postpone if it's raining at meet-up time.

I am about 5' 7" tall with long light brown hair going grey, and will be there with three boys age 11, 8 and 6, all with fair hair, who will probably disappear into the playground or the football pitch and not be seen for dust.

I hope the CRB checks come through soon, serenity! Good idea to take advantage of the paddling pool before the drought order takes effect. I'll decline your kind invitation as I don't have a toddler and I'll be going out all day on Wednesday for a birthday treat, but have fun!

Verso, I think it's quite likely that you know at least one of us if you have children of primary school age (I suspect we have reasonable coverage of the local schools between us all...)

Non25 · 16/06/2006 14:05

Hi. I'll make a brief visit to Hillside next Friday. Look forward to meeting you all.

redjulieb · 16/06/2006 14:26

Great, I'll be at Hillside Gardens with little D, who has just turned 2, hope there are some others around that age for him to meet.

Will look for you all at the round table at 4pm - weather permitting. I've never managed a meet up before, so it's a bit exciting!!

For those who could do a weekend maybe we could try some saturday / sunday picnic (sounds like it needs to be somewhere other than hillside gardens if we need access to loos) - any ideas?

Verso · 16/06/2006 15:48

No, my DD is only 14 months old, so not quite ready for primary school yet Wink - although someone told me we should start thinking about waiting lists and catchment areas etc soon Shock. Is this advisable? Which school(s) are good in the area?

sandradee · 16/06/2006 15:52

verso - I think you know me......hello how are you!!!

Verso · 16/06/2006 16:33

Hello, sandradee! I think I know you too! If you're who I think you are, then you quite recently went to Wales... (if you're not, then you'll now quite probably think I'm a nutter!) Grin
