o.k. I'm bored at work so thought I'll start another threat trying to organise gettogethers :)

With or without kids... I'm game

The latest Ealing thread was considering a zoo visit of some sort when it gets a bit warmer... and now it's gone and gotten colder!

Will do, Uwila I know exactly the ones you want, I happen to be using two (well-worn) ones here that I brought with me! I can certainly get those (I do miss having Target &/or Kmart nearby we can explain to our Brit pals that they're like Very Large Woolworths, or maybe the very biggest Tescos except not quite so much groceries). I'm sure they're at the Kroger near my house, too. Would you like some replacement valves as well?

Thanks for the clues about bus stops etc. I studied the 65 bus route and I gathered that it probably gets within a block of the Orleans, or possibly right in front of it depending on whether it goes up Bond St or the High St in the northbound direction. (pause -- I just checked more closely and I guess it does go up Bond St.)

Jeez, you guys make it sound like you'll need to hire a fork lift for Boopert or something. But then, that's what I felt like when pg. I gained an extra 40-50 lb in fluid alone, without even preeclampsia or anything. I felt like a @#$%! hippopotamus, and even had to wear nursing pads before giving birth because my (normally small but Very Excited! to do something Useful!) boobs were getting squozy and letting down at random moments, for a couple months before delivering ds. Aren't hormones fun!

MrsBigD · 15/03/2006 18:03

Haven't amended yet but will do so tomorrow. Have to go past EB anyway.

So now that we have the 6 april sort of sorted.

Are any of you ladies bored on Thursday 23 March (when dh has abandoned me to go on a course and therefore we had to move Old Orleans boohoohoo) between 16:00-17:30 or thereabouts? I am going to do my first book party. they recommend to have a friends and family event first and I realised I am such a sorry non-socialite that I only have friends on here!!!! RESCUE ME! Grin

I'll bribe you with tea/coffee/cookies. they even have some French kids books in their catalogue! And Spanish and limited German and some other weird and wonderful languages :)

So how about joining me for an Ealing mums/mums-2-b meet with kids and some 'literary' endeavours? DS has also usurped one of my demonstration books!

(if I actually lived near a nice Big Tesco at the moment (or had a car), I wouldn't have anything to whine about. Unfortunately in inconveniently-posh Richmond, there's just a Tesco "metro" and smallish Waitrose. At least there're Woolworths in Twickenham & East Sheen.)

MrsBigD · 15/03/2006 18:07

Yanks... Tesco deliver Grin

Blush uuuhhh....by cracky, you're right!!! Blush
I knew that, (hard to miss the signs with big letters in the stores!) but for some reason I always forget about ordering online etc. But I always forget about doing it in the states, too, so it doesn't really have anything to do with living here. It's just me...

YanksUponThames · 15/03/2006 18:44

And yes, MrsBig (or should I say MrsD?), I actually would be interested in coming to your book party thing if I can either find appropriate storage location for ds (possibly dh), or bring him along. And I know what you mean -- I too am a sorry non-socialite, which is one of the reasons it took me few months to discover mumsnet etc. and get out & about a little bit. (Grim winter weather didn't exactly help either. And the sun going down at 3 in the afternoon; must admit that this particular aspect of being at 51 degrees latitude was one of the harder to get used to, if you didn't grow up with it.)

MrsBigD · 15/03/2006 19:05

Yank... bring ds!
A) It's not as if I'll lock my kids on the balcony for the event so they're out of the way... hmmmm now there's a thought... Grin; and
B) it's kids books!

Also that way your dh will have an eve to himself and then he can't moan when you are coming out on 6 april :) Grin

OP posts:
MrsBigD · 15/03/2006 19:47

btw Uwila those cups look good :)
I'm always surprised when I go back home that the kids stuff is much nicer there than here Grinespecially when it comes to drinking cups. I find most here are way too difficult to drink from for lo's.

then again my friend who'll visit soon from Munich thinks the stuff over here is nicer... hehehehe

I cannot keep up! I wish mumsnet threads could send me a summary of what is happening! I never have any time to read threads properly! So, it is 6th APril at 7pm at old orleans? Will check with dh that he will be home that night and then I should be able to turn up albeit late! And Unicorn, where are you?

YanksUponThames · 15/03/2006 20:29

MrsBigD yes, that sounds like a plan. Dh is already moaning in any case has spent past few days (hanging/flopping about our 3-room flat)with the flu and tedious fever, feeling very knackered and peevish. Meanwhile ds and I had already just got over some coughing virus and so far are not succumbing to whatever tiresomeness dh is moaning about (or, we already had the same thing and didn't moan about it so much Smile).
At any rate, we are hopefully finally no longer contagious...

MrsRecycle · 15/03/2006 20:35

Thanks for arranging MrsD - sorry I can't do the book party - a bit too early for me. Mind you my dd2 would love a french book - she went up to bed saying Bon Nuit tonight. It's amazaing what a pair of PJs with "Bonjour" do to a 5 year old.

Oh and Yanks - I've been to K-Mart! I used to love the fact that it was open all hours and you could get anything there. When my canadian ap was over she was all excited as Asda was owned by Wal-Mart and had a day trip to our local one. She was back an hour later totally disappointed.

trying2bgood · 15/03/2006 20:50

mrsbigd - tah for that! feel a bit more informed now! Can't make it to the book party, partly as I am really trying to cut back on books, I buy so many and my home is full of them, am selling off as many as i can on ebay now, for pennies mind you!!!!

Mrsrecycle - what is the story behind the name? sorry if you have explained it earlier!

BTW mrsbigd - are you a battlestar galactica fan? I think it is one of the best things on telly! Am a bit of a sci-fi geek!

MrsRecycle · 15/03/2006 21:40

Trying2b - I was previously 21stcenturygirl but as I'm pregnant I'm eating like a horse (for the last time) so if anyone has any food left over I recycle it. So I changed it to MrsRecyle and like it so much haven't change it back. So watch your plate on the 6th!

Also as Yank put it so diplomatically (NOT) I'm not so much of a girl anymore - more a Grandma (in age only though!).

MrsBigD · 15/03/2006 22:23

Mrs Recycle.. you can always drop in later or I'll just bring the language books leaflet with me on 6th and you can have a look. Not a big choice in French books but fun for little ones.

Trying2bgood... sort of watching Battlestar from episode 1 onwards and now in season 2. Have to say it'sa bit slow and dark for my liking. Though am with you I'm a sci-fi geek too... wading through Stargate SG1 atm and catching up fast
