o.k. I'm bored at work so thought I'll start another threat trying to organise gettogethers :)

With or without kids... I'm game

The latest Ealing thread was considering a zoo visit of some sort when it gets a bit warmer... and now it's gone and gotten colder!

Dh cooks from scratch. I actually bought some oven chips (being pg, it was an obvious choice!) but dh refuses to 'cook' them for me. Says he would rather do a nice casserole or pasta dish for me. Hmmmm. Whos the wife? (He thinks he's the new Gordon Ramsay)

Leave my boy with a bunch of beer swigging men? Not a chance. Last time i left them in charge came home to find ds asleep on sofa in his clothes. Dh had forgotten to put his pjs on....
And his friend has no kids and really has no idea about life. (Bit of a loser!)

MrsBigD · 05/04/2006 15:45

MrsR re the pizzas... cuts down on delivery costs ;) And I have to admit to being a lazy cow when it comes to lunch at weekends for the kids as especially dd loves chips and nuggets and she can do with the calories :) I know my nanny feeds them 'well' during the week Wink

Snowboo... easy solution... put ds into his pj's before you leave Grin

I'll chck 23rd with dh and let you know. Would be nice to see somehting outside Ealing Grin. Then again I haven't even been to the bunny park yet!!!

Well, pizza can be a great food for kids IF you actually cook it (i.e add some pureed veg and mix into the grated chees before you melt them all together so they can not be separated and veg fed to dog). Trouble is when one can't be bothered to add the healthful ingredients. Chees, tomato sauce and crust don't really count as a nutritionally balanced meal. However, the more time I spend typing this the tastier pizza sounds.

Uwila · 05/04/2006 15:59

My DH made Shepherds pie once. It was like soup under the mash. BEfore he started cooking he asked me if you were supposed to cook the meat before you put it into the oven and I knew I was in trouble then.

So the deal in our house is I cook, he cleans.

MrsBigD · 05/04/2006 16:20

ok I admit it... our household doesn't always eat a well balanced diet. And when I make salad it's not balanced either... dd nicks all the tomatoe and ds all the cucumber leaving dh and me with the lettuce! Grin

We now have totally "homemade" pizza in our house - including the base - thanks to you Uwila!

Dh does do a good shepherd's pie - fries the mince, adds a tin of baked bean and tops with spuds. His gravy is actually the best - he makes it with tomato ketchup.

SnowBoo · 05/04/2006 16:39

MrsB!!!! Not been to the Bunny Park??? Quite shocking Shock

I actually work round the corner but only go there when its cold. Have no idea why...Maybe i should try when its warmer??

Can anyone give me an easy but tasty pizza base recipe? Have tried a few but disaster.

MrsBigD · 05/04/2006 16:46

buy one ready-made and put on the toppings Grin

SnowBoo · 05/04/2006 16:48

Isn't that cheating? Grin
Where do you get them? Only found some scanky looking ones i wouldn't even give to my dog!

MrsRecycle · 05/04/2006 16:49

Buy a breadmaker - or get a really kind and generous friend to donate hers to you Smile

Uwila · 05/04/2006 16:50

Buy a read made pizza, puree carrot, onio and spinach, mik it up with grated cheese, put it on the pizza, add a bit more cheese on top, and cook (or reheat).

This is of course most effective if your kids like cheese.

SnowBoo · 05/04/2006 16:51

The only person i know with a breadmaker is my mum. She won't part with it! I'll ask MIL if she would like to buy me one.....

Well have to go and pick up ds from nursery and then collect dog from MiL. Had her shaved today so should be interesting! (The dog that is!)

Uwila · 05/04/2006 16:51

I like Chicago Town pizzas, which you can find in Tesco. Chicagoans make the best Pizza. Grin

MrsBigD · 05/04/2006 17:04

we've got a breadmaker we don't use :) I have this rare talent that even in a bread maker I produce rock hard kill the birds with material... not fit for consumption Grin

Hi again! Yes, I'm on for tomorrow! Dh is getting very much better rather quickly and is actually being rather decent about feeling up to minding ds for the evening. Things are looking up a bit. About @#$%! time....

Yes, I am interested in books...

Ds held up today for an astounding amount of time at the Petersham Rd playground (one of the ones nearby here, that has quite a big sandpit)...got us both tired out. Glad I thought to put sunscreen on both of us first, too.

Hey I have a bread machine! Cheapest, bottom-of-the-line Toastmaster model. And have made rather good cinnamon-raisin bread & pizza dough (using recipes in the instruction book) with it, too. Except it's back at my other house, and it's wired for 120V US plugs...(don't think it would appreciate being plugged into 230V)
I did discover that even small variations in (a) yeast freshness, (b) amount of salt (too much inhibits yeast growth), and (c) amount of lemon juice or other acid (also inhibits yeast growth), can all make a big difference between ending up with something edible vs. hockey pucks.

YanksUponThames · 05/04/2006 23:19

And yes, Chicagoans make the best pizza. Not that they'd let you get away with saying anything else. Grin Must admit they apparently pioneered the modern version of pizza thick as a brick.

But it's great. (As opposed to Cinncinnati, where people do unnatural things to chili.)Especially since about six pounds of cheese suits me just fine.

Hope everyone's feeling better, and I look forward to meeting folks tomorrow and everybody else later on!
Need to crash now.....will check back tomorrow before boarding the 65 bus.....

MrsBigD · 06/04/2006 13:06

Hope everybody is still on for tonight :)
I'm shattered but I WILL BE THERE! Grin

Oh... I have 2 Easter activities books... anybody interested? Just so I have a vague idea what to bring :)

:) Otherwise I might put them up on ebay Grin
