Anyone else live in or near Exeter? Probably not the brightest question to ask at 3am, but maybe someone will reply during sensible hours

Can I crash your party? I'm about 12 miles from Exeter but know hardly anyone outside my own village! Would be great to meet some new people. Am around most days: have two children in school and 1 in pre-school, though mostly just in tow (he's 2.11). PG x

Somanykiddies · 10/01/2006 17:46

Ponygirl, more the merrier. Not sure when people are pitching up in the area, guess we should just keep an eye on this thread,

madmel · 15/01/2006 21:41

Hi

A bit late for this, sorry, but I'd be happy to meet up with anyone. I live in Exeter, but am really a Manc in exile! Have 2 DDs both at school. Thursdays & Fridays are good for me!

fennel · 20/01/2006 21:10

hi madmel. we are from Manchester (not origially but been living here for years) and moving to Exeter in a few weeks time.
i think we'll be coming in mid March.

Meanoldmummy · 20/01/2006 23:01

I live in St Thomas, Exeter....anybody making meet-up plans I'll be interested

teddyedwards · 22/01/2006 12:19

fennel, Lympstone is nice. Often see windsurfers on the little slipway there as i ride past on my gee gee.I am a registered childminder in Exmouth so anyone moving this way who needs before and after school care let me know.I may consider other hours but i cant do babies as i have 5 kids from 17-1 years and it would just about finish me off looking after a baby. My youngest has been a bit of a nightmare baby, although she is loads better now.

fennel · 23/01/2006 10:27

Meanoldmummy can i contact you? St Thomas's is one of the areas we are considering living in and it would be useful to know a bit more about living there.

Teddyedwards thanks for the info. Lympstone does look very nice.

city itself or village? we are dithering and we don't know any of it well enough to decide.

teddyedwards · 23/01/2006 20:35

hi fennel, L ympstone does have a train station. Trains are roughly 10 to and 20 past hour.It is 5 mins drive to Exmouth and about 15 mins drive from Exeter. BUT would not like to estimate time in rush hour- train is best bet if you are working in central Exeter. The central station is called ' central' but there are also stops at st davids, and other places on the outskirts. Cant give you a list as i dont use the train much.

alonalona · 27/01/2006 13:32

Hi I'm in St Thomas as well and would love to meet up - any suggestions where?

fennel · 27/01/2006 13:34

hi alonalona, can't meet up as don't live there yet but is St Thomas's good to live in?

alonalona · 27/01/2006 21:59

hi fennel - we really like it, we've been here nearly 3 years and have settled well, its easy to get into town, the quay and also to get to the sea and more importantly compared to other areas in exeter house prices are reasonable.

where else are you thinking about?

alona

fennel · 28/01/2006 21:30

hi Alona

we are considering really the areas along the river - we like water. Topsham as DP is an avid windsurfer, though it seems more expensive, st Leonards as it's between the city centre and the river, and St Thomas as it seems really conveniently located. and has big relatively cheap houses. we can't decide, we don't know the area well enough, we have to come down again and check it out i guess. Dp will be working in the SW of the city - that trading estate area is it Alphington and i would be working in the Uni so we want to be sort of convenient for those places by bike or train really. but with reasonable local schools, parks, things for toddlers etc. swimming pools, that sort of thing.

alonalona · 28/01/2006 22:17

fennel, you really need to come and walk around and look for yourself - that's what we did when we came looking - we walked all round st davids, st james, mount pleasant, heavitree and st leonards ending in st thomas and as we wanted somewhere with a reasonable garden we could afford, we chose st thomas. Re your situ, Alphington and Marsh Barton are very close, and you can cycle along the river to get to st davids and the uni pretty easily - what age are your kids re schools?

hi alona, thanks

we have been a couple of times in the summer and autumn, to look round, and i have a friend in Kenton. we are coming in a couple of weeks to do the looking round the areas again now we are certain we are coming. the girls are 5, 4 and 1. but knowing that people with children living in an area like it is quite useful.

alonalona · 30/01/2006 19:42

fennel, if you want any specific info on st thomas pls feel free to email me on alonakemmett at yahoo dot co uk

Hattsmum · 03/02/2006 10:36

I'd recommend Alphington too - the primary school is on the Ofsted 'outstanding' list for this area, and it's accessible. I'm in Crediton at the moment, hoping to move to Ogwell/Ipplepen soon because DH has a new job.

fennel · 20/03/2006 10:57

bumping this cos we're living in Exeter now, since last Friday, and i was wondering if anyone feels like meeting up. we're living (for the moment) in between St Thomas and Alphington.

thanks for the advice everyone, dd1 and dd2 started at Alphington school today - it does seem nice.

TearsBeforeBedtime · 20/03/2006 10:58

I should (fingers crossed) be staying with Essbee in Exeter 20th to 27th April, if anyone fancies meeting up then? I'll probably do a separate thread anyway once I've got the train tickets booked!!!

TearsBeforeBedtime · 20/03/2006 19:48

.

TearsBeforeBedtime · 20/03/2006 19:48

I'm the MNetter formerly know as MTS, if that makes any difference Grin

JanH · 20/03/2006 20:11

hello, fennel Smile

I'm going to be visiting essbee the first week of May (unless it's somebody's birthday in my family) (it isn't, but I nearly booked to go down the first week of April and it's DD2's 21st on the Wednesday - you should have seen her face when I told her Blush) so if there's any chance of meeting up then that'd be lovely (would like to meet your girls too!)

ponygirl · 20/03/2006 20:27

Hello, I'm still here too and would love to join you. I'm about 12 miles out of Exeter, but it's a mere hop, skip and a jump for me. Anything to get out of the village, tbh...

getbakainyourjimjams · 20/03/2006 20:45

Let me know where and when - I may be able to meet up. Depends on how many children I have and how much help and where you meet.

TearsBeforeBedtime · 20/03/2006 20:47

I'm certainly happy to be flexible baka, to meetup somewhere that's convenient for you iyswim (particularly if I can twist essbee's arm into driving us around Grin)

fennel · 21/03/2006 08:16

I'm very flexible too, are we talking weekday or weekend or evening?
If it's a weekday, Wed or Fri is best for me.

i can do with or without children, or with a select sample - just dd3 in the daytime who's nearly 2, or all 3 if it's weekend.

hi TBB (formerly known as MTS) and JanH, it would be good to meet up again when you're down.

incidentally does anyone know of a pet shop in Exeter? we need to find a hamster and cage urgently.
