Hope this works, a shiny new thread girls - come on in Smile.

OP posts:
WhatWouldLeoDo · 11/12/2011 15:37

I hope the rest of the performances go well! I'm a bit Xmas Envy of all these Christmas performances as DS won't be in his (only the year above him in his pre-school) although he does have a Christmas carol concert which I'm looking forward too.

Xmas Grin on the bugaboo Gig! What colour? That Christmas book you linked to looks lovely! I've put it in my 'future purchases' private wish list on Amazon - I've now bought far too many Christmas books and dvd's this year (dvd's of films which are of course all on tv over the next few weeks). I managed to get a Christmas Postman brand new on ebay for a sensible price but I also got a copy with a cd of 'One Snowy Night'. We went to see a show of one snowy night at the weekend which was really well done.

I must go wrap some presents while DH is out with DS so just a quick wave to everyone - Deb, don't think I didn't notice you posting in Christmas Xmas Grin Xmas Wink

LaGuerta · 11/12/2011 19:09

Urghh: currently sewing a roman soldier costume. This is the most advanced sewing project that I have undertaken in 21 years! I had to make my own pattern and everything

Gigondas · 11/12/2011 19:22

Sympathy lag- I was shit at that kind of thing. And its not something you can do an eBay solution

LaGuerta · 11/12/2011 22:53

Ahh, but you can find roman soldier outfits on eBay for £8. I just decided that I wanted to do it myself Hmm.

It is now wearable and so I have tomorrow to add some gold braid and look for a red cape at the shops if I can be bothered. I am feeling alot happier as a result. I think DH has been slightly staggered that I have achieved this much!

disguisedeb · 12/12/2011 09:38

lol Leo, I can't even remember what I posted Xmas Smile You will be pleased to know that aprt from 2 cd's I have bought all my Christmas presents!I do love Christmas, just not in August!

LaGuerta · 12/12/2011 12:17

Still not really bought any Christmas presents. Blush

Various Friends have started having babies in the last week so Xmas shopping was further delayed this morning whilst I bought 2 baby presents and 3 small presents for older siblings. Oh and a four year old birthday present too!

Roman soldier cape is now sourced (thanks Argos).

On the house it looks as though the £10k gap has been closed with everyone chipping in (agents and clients) £2k. Tentative Xmas Smile.

Gigondas · 12/12/2011 14:00

Xmas Grin re soldier outfit and Xmas Grin Xmas Grin re house price gap.

There is still two weeks nearly to Xmas so loads of time lag...

Leo did you spot anything else good over Xmas on tv? Stitching how was fc ?

Have presents but arent wrapped yet

disguisedeb · 12/12/2011 20:08

so, so proud of Tristan today, he remembered all his lines, and when he sang his duet it was just lovely.Xmas Grineven reduced some of the teachers to tears, never mind my Mum, she was a wreck!

WhatWouldLeoDo · 12/12/2011 20:24

Aw, that's lovely Deb. And good news about the house LaG Xmas Grin

I think I've bought all my Christmas presents. Lots of wrapping still to do. I used to love wrapping pre-DS, but now it's such a chore to sneak things downstairs to wrap and get them back upstairs without waking him up (he's now taken to insisting that his door is left open). I'll get it done though. I've been a bit lax in Christmas prep of late so I really need to get cracking. I'm waiting for my Christmas cards to arrive so I can write them. You see why I need to start in August Deb - less than two weeks to go and I'm still not organised Xmas Grin

Christmas tv - I circled lots in the radio times, mostly films and Christmas specials/dramas etc. I've started deleting lot of kids crap tv off my sky planner to free up some room.

Gigondas · 12/12/2011 20:29

Deb that sounds great. When is ds concert lag?

I know what you mean Leo - i should be writing cards but too knackered . Am hoping to do some wrapping when off this weekend but who knows.

New car arrives Friday so got to sell old one now. Thankfully dh good at this - there is definitely an inner Arthur Daley about him .

WhatWouldLeoDo · 12/12/2011 20:33

Meant to say, well done on the costume LaG - I wouldn't know where to start!

LaGuerta · 12/12/2011 21:21

Costume just finished. Phew. Play is tomorrow morning.

Deb - how lovely about Tristan's performance.

WhatWouldLeoDo · 12/12/2011 22:02

Well done LaG!

Random question - we're FINALLY getting our main bathroom re-tiled next week. We're going for plain white but decided to have a standard horizontal border about half way up just to break it up a bit. However, our tiler in his wisdom, has recommended a vertical border in the back wall as it 'the in thing'. Now, he's a tiler, so probably knows more about what people are getting done than me, but that sounds random and bizarre. I'm more than a bit Xmas Hmm - any thoughts?

Gigondas · 12/12/2011 22:39

What kind of border tiles are they? Pattern/colour etc as that makes a difference .

WhatWouldLeoDo · 12/12/2011 22:47

I've seen some mosiac style border tiles in the right shade of blue (have a slate grey floor so thinking of painting the walls a pale blue). Some Internet research tells me that vertical tiles aren't that odd after all. Who knew, eh? not me

LaGuerta · 13/12/2011 04:46

If it's the in thing will it be out of fashion sooner too?

We had real problems choosing bathroom tiles 4 years ago. In the end despite dh being adamant that he didn't want a mosaic border we chose a horizontal border in shades of green glass with a frosted glass finish. We also went for rectangles rather than squares layed overlapping like brickwork because the main whilte tiles are also rectangles and overlap. I like to still but suspect it's not cutting edge.

WhatWouldLeoDo · 13/12/2011 12:54

That sounds nice LaG. I think I will give the vertical stripe a go - I've looked at a couple of images courtesy of google and it looks ok. I think it might work out cheaper too which is all important. I'll just be really glad to get it done. We have problems with tiling in both our showers just now which means we really shouldn't be using either, but because DH buggered up the tiler is busy, he won't be coming until Monday. There's a boxed in bit between the end of our bath and the wall so we also need to co-ordinate someone else coming round and removing that, taking off tiles from two of the walls and putting in a new plasterboard box to be tiled over so the whole thing is just a bit of a faff. Especially the boxed in bit. It's such as waste of space, but I'm sure our flooring doesn't extend below it so it's either replace it or replace the flooring (which I don't want to do). Gah.

Gigondas · 13/12/2011 15:58

Agree vertical stripe sounds nice and it's what you like not what's fashionable or in our case what dh likes which is variants on cream- he is definitely the Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen here as I am meh about most bits of home design provided they arent too ott.

Talking of which seen the thread about these people pedlars. Am not sure if price or design is more appalling.

StitchingMoss · 14/12/2011 11:36

Grin at Pedlars - that's an MN favourite, it's truly unbelievable how much some of the stuff costs!

Gigondas · 15/12/2011 13:22

Waiting for review of lags concert . Last day working today Grin

LaGuerta · 15/12/2011 16:59

Ah sorry. Yes the nativity play was good. All the 3 year olds who had parts were very well drilled Grin, DS included. Lots of singing and actions too. I'll put a photo on FB.

DS1 was sick IN MY BED last night Sad luckily I managed to direct him towards DH's pillow Blush who was away so the damage was minimised. He has seemed pretty fine today thankfully. Eaten well, not been sick all day. So should be fine tomorrow.

We had the survey on this house today. Fingers crossed it doesn't throw up problems that can be used to knock us down further (we would refuse). I think our buyer will try though.

Did anyone see the Panorama on Adoption last night? I flicked it on as it started and it had me transfixed. So awful. The result was that I didn't do any online shopping last night as I had intended.

disguisedeb · 15/12/2011 19:41

I watched it LaG, those poor children waiting so long.

We are moving...not to our own place but to the other rental house, my Dad said make an offer of the rent which I didn't think you could do so it was up for £475 a month, we offered them £400 a month and we'd pay the 6 months up front and today thay have accepted it. Despite the dread of moving again I am looking forward to being in a proper house again, with 4 bedrooms and more living space. We just have one lounge/diner here which is also playroom, Tv, homework etc etc... And at £400 a month that's £200 cheaper than here Xmas Grin

Gigondas · 18/12/2011 12:04

Good news re rental deb- when would
You move?

Sorry no post but finishing up at work on Thursday and been in agony with my hip. Consultant wants to scan to check no blood clot (as muscles at top of leg/buttock are so inflamed). Oh and baby breach so c section for me if she hasn't turned by 37 weeks (he was fairly cynical on success chances of various methods of turning and tbh having seen some stuff about manual manipulation am not keen).

Lag- am I right in thinking you had c section with ds1? Any tips etc? Haven't really thought much about it before.
Aside from that doing last Xmas stuff this week but may be slow going.

LaGuerta · 18/12/2011 21:59

I am sorry to hear that your hip is no better Gig. Sounds rotten. I had an emergency section which is a different kettle of fish to a planned one from what I have heard. Planned are much calmer and you have more say over what happens e.g. Do they drop the curtain so that you can see the delivery etc. Friends who have had planned sections after traumatic natural deliveries have been so much happier about their sections and have recovered well.

In terms of turning a breech baby this www.spinningbabies.com might be worth reading although from memory some of it is slightly grating. With ds2 I spent a lot of time in child's pose because the main reason ds1 wouldn't come out was because he had his chin tilted up (brow presentation) making the circumference of his head bigger than the space available! For a breech I think you are meant to do inversions on the stairs - could make for an amusing Christmas pRty piece Xmas Wink. Anyway just thought the site might have some stuff on there that helps. My other positive thought is that a very good friend has had babies that have remained breech until quite late and then turned after the drs thought that this was likely. Successful natural deliveries both times.

Another twist in the house saga yesterday... Yesterday (two days after the survey) some people came to view through the rival agent. We met them, and they seemed very keen. Then they put an offer in a couple of hours later!! The offer is less than our current sale price, but it's not far off. We have turned it down and will see if they increase it tomorrow. Xmas Shock if they get to a tempting level, then what do we do? They are chain free and in rented on a month's notice. Mortgage in place etc.

Gigondas · 18/12/2011 22:05

Hmm I don't know what I would do about offer but it's good news - I would go with flow and see if they make an offer. They certainly sound promising.

Thanks for reassurance re c section- I didn't realise I was such a coward about surgery until faced with idea of it.

Another mate suggested that website (with similar caveats) so will check it out. I am happy to try the poses when can actually do something that doesn't involve sitting or lieing on one side.

Bit sad as nice plans for first week off all awry as not sure how far can get. Luckily dsc around to help - which I think for e is better than anything Wink
