Hi, I’ve not tried Keto before so any advice welcome.

Anyone else just starting out, we could support each other.

Winnie, on bootcamp we kept it under 60g carbs per day and plenty of people saw good losses at that level. Don’t think it needs to be as low as 20g to work.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 07/07/2020 13:14

Well done everyone, keep posting your losses to inspire me

Not much inspiration from me sadly! After my initial amazing loss of 12lb, I’ve ground to a halt and never quite picked up again. Two measly pounds off over the last 5 weeks. I do feel better in myself and I’ve had to mess with my thyroid meds this week which won’t have helped, but I was really hoping to see a bit more of a loss by now. I keep reading the advice to just keep on and it will suddenly ‘whoosh’ but I’m getting impatient now!

daisychicken · 07/07/2020 14:18

No inspiration here either. I seem to be static currently weight-wise. The closer I get to goal, the harder it is to lose any weight. I'll just koko for now but please send weight-loss vibes this way!

JustMoved123 · 07/07/2020 14:47

Sending positive vibes & fingers crossed those stupid scales will show a result this week!
I find I’m struggling to eat much for my dinner as I’m not enjoying it and then I’m hungry later... I do think I feel better for less carbs though.

Hang in there.

Three weeks in a row I saw 9.13 and the the next week, 9.7lbs so keep going.

Im telling myself i will be ok if i havent lost anything this Sunday. Not too disappointed.

Fast tomorrow. Im almost looking forward to it. 🤣
I ate well today but kept to ratios and under 1400 cals

I am watching videos and fasting and autophagy. It is v interesting.

KetoWinnie · 07/07/2020 21:49

@JustMoved123 i had a courgette a whole courgette and 100 grams of chopped leek, some gatlic, chilli, the usual 25 grams of butter, tuna, grated cheddar. It was so filling.

My net carbs about 14 today 😮
My breath will stink tomorrow 💐

KetoWinnie · 07/07/2020 21:51

I love vegetables fried in butter. I think I enjoyed my dinner more than usual tonight because it was egg free!!

My old favourite place to put an egg was in a cake.

Turkeydrumstick · 07/07/2020 23:54

Why haven’t I thought of frying veg in butter?! That sounds delicious! I made a massaman curry in the slow cooker with full fat coconut milk (would normally use reduced fat) and had it with cauliflower rice. I’ve found that I really don’t miss rice and full fat stuff is so much tastier!
It’s amazing how different my appetite has become now too. Food used to constantly be in the back of my mind and I would have times of the day when I was absolutely starving hungry, whereas now I’m only hungry at meal times.

KetoWinnie · 08/07/2020 08:21

Keto made me get the spiraliser out of the back of the cupboard. Fried mushrooms. Fried courgettes. Fried leeks. Mmmm
I log it all with total carbs and then i take 2 thirds off the carb total fitnesspal gives me.

KetoWinnie · 08/07/2020 08:23

Yeh i dont misss rice either! I bought some green isle fake rice made out of cauli 2 months ago and it was comforting to begin with, but it isnt something id shop for now.

lardass88 · 08/07/2020 09:00

Are you drinking lots of water and keeping an eye on your fibre intake? I think especially with this diet it’s easy to not have enough fibre. I’d also recommend dried prunes, there’s 6 carbs per dried prune which is quite high but they’re good for keeping things regular.

KetoWinnie · 09/07/2020 19:06

It's too late now, I've eaten it, but leeks are not low carb Shock
I just assumed they would be because they're not starchy and they're not sweet at all. But however many carbs a leek has, the net carbs are nearly as high.

So I got caught out with that today. Leeks fried in butter are good though.

For work I've been eating a babybel and a sachet of pitted black olives with sea salt, in a handy 70g pouch from tesco. Fewer calories than a bag of crisps. No carbs. I also had about 20 grams of macademia nuts. They're lovely but they're not carb free so you can't eat too many.

Please inspire me people !! What do you eat at work? If you're going to work. Now that a sandwich is out of the question.

KetoWinnie · 10/07/2020 08:00

Does anybody else follow dr eric berg on youtube?
At first I thought he was a kind of strange emaciacted keto vampire who looks old and young at the same time, but now i find him/his channel invaluable. I was just wondering if a pinch of salt would do the same job as electrolytes during a fast, when up pops a clip in my suggestions with the answ÷r! Himalayan pink salt. So off to buy some tomorrow.

I used to think it was overpriced nonsense

JustMoved123 · 10/07/2020 09:35

@KetoWinnie, thank you, I’ll take a look.

I’m not sure I am getting into ketosis or just low carb, it’s difficult to know isn’t it? However, I’ve lost 3.5kgs so although it’s slower than I’d hoped, it’s going in the right direction.
Steak with cauliflower purée tonight for dinner which I’m looking forward to. Last night we had Diet Dr butter chicken with cauliflower rice, I really enjoyed that too.

@KetoWinnie leeks are fine! They are 2.8g carbs per 100g (I have just checked the label on the ones I have in my fridge) and a whole leek weighs about 110g. So you're absolutely fine to have them - I have them all the time fried in butter with some garlic powder, salt and pepper Smile

KetoWinnie · 10/07/2020 17:05

Oh that is good news. They add so much flavour

Dulcedelecherocks · 10/07/2020 17:12

Yeah Grin
I love them too!! Eat away x

KetoWinnie · 10/07/2020 17:21

I can have a glass of wine and still be under 20 net so I will. Cheers

KetoWinnie · 10/07/2020 17:22

Im not even home yet! Im on the bus, planning my glass of white wine. Havent drunk a drop in 8 weeks

pontiouspilates · 10/07/2020 18:21

Ooh leeks fried in butter sound amazing! I'm doing a chilli tonight, hold the kidney beans. We are eating in our local pub tomorrow so I'm thinking either steak and salad or bunless burger. Are sweet potato fries any batter than regular fries or should I just avoid completely? I'm planning on eating absolute minimal carbs tomorrow daytime.

KetoWinnie · 10/07/2020 18:39

oh they are! I remember my Mum making omelette with leeks in butter and spuds and salt when I was a child. Mmmm. I don't think we called it an omelette though. The word eludes me.

@pontiouspilates, I believe sweet potato has a lower glycaemic index. If you can avoid them, do. They can be hit and miss as well. I've had sweet potato fries that were the food of Gods and then I've also had soggy ones that made me feel a bit ick. Recall the worst SPFs you've ever had, not the best.

Tomorrow, in your shoes, I'd go for a Massive bunless burger with blue cheese and a glass of wine. to take your eye off the no burger! I wonder would you be able to manouevre it in to your mouth without the bun? I'd manage! I'm sure you will too Grin

KetoWinnie · 10/07/2020 18:50

I'm very impressed with my net carb management today!

Even with my 200mls of wine, my net cars were 17! Shock

I had 3 cherry tomatoes, an avocado, 10 black black olives and 100g of chopped courgette so that's more veg than I used to have most days before.

Calories only 1247 today and I'm full. Confused Honestly, mind blown . All those diets I went on before and felt hungry on.

But sitting here now, properly full, with just one glass of wine, wishing I'd known about Keto 30 years ago!

MattBerrysHair · 11/07/2020 09:54

Hi, room for another? I started keto last friday, so only a week in, but I'm noticing some side effects already. My skin is getting very dry and sensitive on my face. Is this just dehydration? I'm topping up my electrolytes and drinking plenty. I've got a history of eczema and dermatitis on my face which has been settled for 2 years now. I'd hate to have to stop keto because of eczema flare ups because otherwise I feel amazing.
