Hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

This is just to let you know that the next low carb Bootcamp will be starting on Monday 13 January. As before, it will last for 10 weeks, with the first two weeks being the strictest.

Tricky- the amount of carbs/day seems to vary per person. Some lose on 25g/day, some if they stay under 100g! Personally I need to stay on about 25g/day, but there is no strict limit - see how you go. Incidentally, with MFP you also will neeed to add a column for 'fibre' as it's an american site and doesn't remove it first, as we do. Subtract fibre from the carbs at the end of the day.

re cooking once - make sure it's not a pasta/rice style dish! I cook for me a dp and just lose the potatoes/rice; and add more 'good' veg.
Re tea - I drink Rooibos, black, unsweetened. I'll drink about 3-4 mugs a day and this also counts towards my water intake of 2.5Lts. Or try soya milk, it's lower in carbs. (but not much) Or try those 'fruit' flavoured teas - liquorice is a good one, as it's naturally sweet (for those with a sweet tooth) but zero carbs.
Thermo - honey is 100% carbs! As we are trying to stick to foods that are under 3g/100g, it is totally out, I'm afraid. Have you read the rules? (Not sure if they are on this thread but BIWI will post them at the top of each weeks' spreadsheet. )
Kefy - yoghurt is a good breakfast; do you have access to a microwave? Scrambled eggs takes 2 minutes. Leftovers from dinner, heated up (I had sausages yesterday) or do as the continentals do and take slices of cheese/meat/hardboiled eggs. We need to stop thinking of breakfast as being a special meal (cereals, toast and jam etc) and just eating whatever is there. (In prague once, staying with friends, we had leftover boiled sausage and sauerkraut!)
My breakfast now (after 1.5 years of LC) is a Rooibos tea with tsp coconut oil - it fills me up till lunch (yes really - unlike those cereals/toast, which kept me going till - ooh, 10 oclock?)

captainmummy · 03/01/2014 09:48

BIWI also normally does a 'questions' thread, so that any questions you may have don't get missed in the general chat/support/motivation on the current thread.

MrsPnut · 03/01/2014 10:06

I've done Dukan successfully before but have struggled to get back on the wagon a few times.

Thanks. Was being thick and getting confused between Low Carb and Paleo. I think it is allowed in moderation on a Paleo diet because it is a natural substance that can be eaten raw.

whitepaws · 03/01/2014 10:51

I'm delurking finally to join this thread. Have lots to lose, a long way to go but every day I seem to feel the effects of my weight more and more. Have tried low cal diets before , lost weight and always regained. This time I will lose weight, get healthier and work towards getting pregnant!

Hope I've c+p the list properlyproperly

Im in! I did Paleo last year for 6 months and felt fab and lost 3 1/2 stone without trying, I unfortunatley fell off the wagon badly and regained a couple of stone Sad I was gonna restart next week but will do bootcamp instead as it will be a good strict passage back in and will be good to have some support along the way Grin

BIWI · 03/01/2014 10:56

Morning all! Back at work today, so time for MNing is definitely curtailed .

Thermo - honey is definitely not allowed on Bootcamp or Bootcamp Light - it's just sugar by any other name, I'm afraid.

Kefybaby - do you have a microwave at work? If you can't eat at home before you go to work, and you're bored with yoghurt, the other thing to do is to take in something that you can heat up easily. I often have leftovers from dinner the night before. The key thing is not to think of breakfast as a meal that requires special, 'breakfast-only' foods - that's a legacy of the cereal manufacturers, making us think that we have to eat differently!

Tricky - the whole idea of Bootcamp is that you don't have to count carbs. As long as you follow the rules, and eat the right veg/salad (i.e. those that are mainly 3g carbs per 100g) then you will be fine. Unfortunately there isn't any easy way to marry up low carb with low cal dieting/cooking - but I'd say that if you're cooking then you get to choose what's on the menu!

The best way to convince your DH is to get him to do some reading about why calorie-counting doesn't work in the long term. "Escape the Diet Trap" by Dr John Briffa is a really good book, and easy to read, and it explains the thinking behind low carving as well as explaining why low calorie isn't the way to go.

I am in ! I have had a name change to reflect what I saw on the scales this morning....... the enthusiasm on this thread and knowledge is going to make the numbers shrink ! The name came from when I was a student nurse in A&e many years ago and the devils played tricks on the newbies by putting false cards in the minor injuries box - so guess went into a packed waiting room and shouted Mrs Hugh Jarse....... !

Waves at all the mighty no carbers! I have never done this before but am super motivated! Can anyone point me at the rules that have been mentioned up thread? I have PILED weight on over the last 3 years and now have 4 stone to lose. I am ashamed and low and need to get my body (and my jeans) back

BIWI is there any chance we could have a discussion thread before the 13th to help get us in the mood and start meal planning? I don't want to clutter this one up.

I've forgotten a lot and need reminding, plus I was thinking of doing a soft start next week.

CustardoPaidforIDSsYFronts · 03/01/2014 12:35

just popping in to brag

went back on LCing yesterday - lost 3lbs - you might say water weight...I say, I don't give a shit what weight it is:)

whats more dh lost 4.5lbs hes a fat bastard tough to be fair

fucking love this diet

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2014 13:48

I'm in Ireland at the moment, home of the carbohydrate, and have been stuffing myself silly with all the wrong things (soda bread.....mm mm...).

It will all be coming to an end verrrry soon.

I can happily live without spud, rice, pasta, but I do miss a nice piece of bread.

Hi Custy !

sybilfaulty · 03/01/2014 13:49

Well done Custardo. Great work. A lot of DHs lose weight quickly, some even inadvertently because they suddenly get lovely LC food without realising it! My Dh did 5.2 over the summer ( not very strictly either) and lost 2.5 st in about 3 months. Swine.

I would love a chat thread too. There is already a separate recipe thread from last time which is awash with LC delights. Once you get going, you will not want to eat many of the foods which seem so tempting before you start. I have been LC for about 18 m and the only think I really miss is toast. Pasta, rice, potatoes, biscuits- no loss. I do love toast still but try to have it as a treat. No toast on bootcamp though! .

BIWI · 03/01/2014 13:50

A big fat no to Coffeemate! It's 57.3g carbs per 100g! Although you only use a little bit - one serving is actually 3.7g carbs - it is also full of nasty stuff. Here are the ingredients:

Glucose Syrup, Vegetable Oil, Stabilisers (Dipotassium Phosphate, Trisodium Citrate, Sodium Hexametaphosphate), Milk Proteins, Emulsifiers (Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids, Mono- and Diacetyl Tartaric Acid Esters of Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids), Anti-Caking Agent: Silicon Dioxide, Colour: Riboflavin.

Bootcamp is about avoiding artificial/processed foods as well as cutting down the carbs.

OP posts:
sybilfaulty · 03/01/2014 13:50

Should say, my Dh was on 5.2 with LC in the five days! I don't think he even noticed!

BIWI · 03/01/2014 13:52

I'll start a chat thread soon - some people are, I know, starting next week and others are wanting to ease themselves into it.

Here's a link to the rules

PLEASE PRINT THESE OUT SO THAT YOU ALWAYS HAVE THEM TO HAND!

Hi Custy - well done! It's a bloody pain that men lose more and more quickly, isn't it?

OP posts:
CustardoPaidforIDSsYFronts · 03/01/2014 13:53

Hi cointreau xxx

cheers Sybil - agree completely, it just drops off DH - but he has got about 3 stone to get rid of

Lighthousekeeping · 03/01/2014 14:10

I'm going to do abig online shop this weekend. I have to really watch what I spend. I'm determined to crack on with this diet. I've let myself go terribly.

Lighthousekeeping · 03/01/2014 14:39

Bloody hell I've just realised it's a week on Monday. Does that mean I can eat loads of Christmas rubbish until then?

sybilfaulty · 03/01/2014 14:57

I find I get rid of binge weight quite quickly. So if I've been away for the weekend and eaten / drunk whatever I'm given, that goes off relatively quickly. It's the lard that has been around for a while which is slower yo budge.

I am back at work tomorrow so makes sense for me to cut back now

CustardoPaidforIDSsYFronts · 03/01/2014 15:13

me too actually syb, I haven't weighed myself for two weeks ( unheard of for me) and I thought and felt much bigger than I actually was - I fairly jumped off the scales, as I though I was 10lbs heavier than I actually was - honestly

trashcanjunkie · 03/01/2014 16:15

what are the veg options?
