Slimming World to Harcombe?

FourArms · 02/12/2013 11:30

I've been doing SW since 29/8. Initially on EE and now mainly on red days.

However although I've lost 1lb short of 2
stone I haven't lost any weight this week and I've stuck to the plan with the exception of maybe not enough syns / HEB.

Have seen the Harcombe diet and this seems to be more like what I'm doing at the moment although I'll have to swap coffee and skimmed milk for herbal tea and stop my 10 a day satsuma habit ;)

Just wondered what people's losses had been in phase 1 switching from SW? My BMI is still in the low 30s so I've got plenty to lose!

I will weigh in tomorrow morning, but there's no chance I've lost anything and I would bet that I'm back to square one as I haven't really eaten the Harcombe way all week, except perhaps my tea for the last couple of days.

Glad the lunch with your mum was lovely Kazza and well done you for sticking as near as you could do from what was available. I'm struggling a bit, and really think I need to get a proper weekly menu plan sorted, because I'm not hungry, but I do pick at things if I don't know what I'm going to be eating.

kazzawazzawoo · 14/03/2014 23:17

Yes I think having a proper meal plan helps.

Today I've not been as good, have been out for a drink with my friend and had some crisps, but only because I felt like enjoying myself. I had one alcoholic drink and one soft drink.

B: bacon eggs mashed swede fried
L: HM chicken soup, salad, salami
D: chilli with mashed swede
S: crisps, brandy, Appletiser Hmm

But on the plus side I now fit back into my old work trousers (size 14 but on the small side) and my other work trousers are too baggy Smile

RosinaCopper · 15/03/2014 09:46

Yay, well done you Kazza! I'd love for my jeans to be feel too baggy again!

So not quite back where I started, but I'm annoyed with myself that I've put 2.5 pounds on this week. I'm phase 2-ing over the weekend then will try to do phase 1 monday to friday

Food for today:
B: 0% yoghurt with porridge oats and fruit
L: Ham salad
D: HM chilli, with courgette ribbons instead of rice for me and possible all the kidney beans taken out.

S: 1.5 half caff cappucino made with skimmed milk

Have a good weekend everyone.

kazzawazzawoo · 15/03/2014 10:09

Rosina, that could just be natural fluctuation and no doubt will disappear quickly if you stay on track.

kazzawazzawoo · 15/03/2014 20:23

B: bacon eggs fried leftover swede
L: bacon and eggs Blush
D: steak with Stilton and cream sauce and cauliflower cheese - yum!
I made the cheese sauce with 2/3 cream and 1/3 milk thickened with cornflour, so hopefully not too naughty.

kazzawazzawoo · 17/03/2014 14:57

I've measured myself again this morning and I've lost another 1.5 inches in bits and bobs, half here, another half there...

kazzawazzawoo · 17/03/2014 14:59

Yesterday

B: bacon eggs
L: corned beef!
D: roast belly pork, swede, cauliflower
Small brandy and lemonade Hmm
85% dark choc small bar

kazzawazzawoo · 18/03/2014 18:28

B: bacon eggs
L: HM chicken soup, salad
D: HM chicken curry, celeriac
S: cereal bar

RosinaCopper · 19/03/2014 09:54

I've been off the rails totally over the weekend, but back to it properly yesterday and 1.5lbs off after that 1st day (I always get on the scales before I have a shower in the morning which I know is a really bad habit).

But there is a family party coming up near Easter and I don't want to turn up being as overweight as I am now, so I am trying to be properly focussed. I still haveat least one half caff cappucino with skimmed milk, every morning though, and was wondering whether the caffeine is worse than the milk? I don't like black coffee, or cream in coffee, but could probably go decaff cappucino instead.

Food for Tuesday:

Half caff cappucino
B: NLY
L: Ham salad (packet ham, sugar listed in the ingredients)
D: Brown rice pasta, veg, BNS sauce, bit of chicken

Today already had
1 x half caff cappucino
1 x decaff cappucino
1 x liquorice tea
B: NLY with bit of coconut cream added

Planned
L: Ham salad
D: Brown rice with HM sauce and veg

RosinaCopper · 19/03/2014 09:56

Kazza, I've just seen your inch loss, that's brilliant! I really should do some measurements too.

I have, however, taken a 'before' photograph and had planned to retake it weekly, but that hasn't been happening because I haven't really lost any weight!

kazzawazzawoo · 19/03/2014 13:25

I think it's probably a combination of the reaction to the caffeine and also the carbs in milk. You'll get the best result if you cut out both Hmm Have you tried decaff? You might get a withdrawal headache for a day or 2 but that doesn't last. There's some nice decaff out there, Kenco isn't bad, or Starbucks do an instant one. If you have filter coffee try Taylor's, either black or with a little cream. You will get used to it and it makes a huge difference to your loss. I used to have coffee and tea with milk and sugar and cut out caffeine, milk and sugar at the same time and my husband did too. We felt lousy for 3 days, but now I love my black coffees Smile

kazzawazzawoo · 19/03/2014 13:27

I am really pleased about the inch loss. It's not heaps, but clothes that didn't fit before are now very comfortable to wear. Smile I've got a work skirt on today that I haven't worn for years and it's loose round the waist Smile

kazzawazzawoo · 22/03/2014 09:25

I seem to have been eating too much dark choc the last few days, need to cut back again. It's been a very stressful week!

Yesterday

B: bacon and eggs
L: HM chicken soup and salad
D: cottage pie made with swede, green beans
S: corned beef, cereal bar, dark choc HmmHmm

So, down again, but still not down to my lowest so far. Posting my weight on here is helping me, though!

I have been writing what I've eaten down as I go along which also helps, but I went completely off the rails again last night, with a boozy night out, pie and chips, crisps and dips etc, and then chocolate before I went to bed to ward off the hangover (it worked!) so I'm sure I could've had a better week than that if I hadn't had all that Blush

I will probably have a non strict weekend and then back down to it on Monday. Hope you all have a good weekend.

Kazza I hope next week is less stressful for you. My next Harcombe challenge is cutting down on milk in coffee, as I am managing with decaff most of the time, but still have milk. (I daren't try bulletproof coffee, sounds revolting!)

kazzawazzawoo · 22/03/2014 11:36

Rosina you are doing well Smile

Helping my dh stay on track is stopping me from going totally off the rails! I did have 2 brandy and lemonades last night though. I'm struggling to know what to drink when I fancy one, not fancying wine at the moment. What do you drink when out?

I'm getting fed up of cooked breakfasts again and am very restricted due to cutting out gluten and most dairy. Fed up of eggs and craving bread! Good bread ...

kazzawazzawoo · 22/03/2014 22:38

Had a really bad afternoon HmmHmm Have been craving sweet stuff Hmm

B: bacon eggs
L: rice pudding and stewed rhubarb
D: burgers with Stilton, swede, cauliflower cheese
S: cereal bar, dark choc, 1/4 crumpet with melted cheese Shock

Moanranger · 24/03/2014 21:00

Have been doing this about 2 weeks now, slow but it works & I am not hungry. No sugar, no booze (& no fun!) but I am 6lbs down

RosinaCopper · 25/03/2014 19:50

Had a pretty bad weekend, but the chocolate is now gone (damn you, Cadbury!!) and I will get stuck back into it now until the weekend.

I tried a 'Meatza' for the first time yesterday and it got a thumbs up from 2 out of 3 children and from me and DH, so we'll have that again, although it did sit quite heavily and I went to bed feeling very full.

Been out for lunch today and had a gorgeous burger, but only ate a few chips and a little bit of the bun it was in, so I did mix carbs and fat, but not as much as the friend I was with!

kazzawazzawoo · 25/03/2014 19:53

Well done moanranger, glad its working for you Smile Smile

I lost the plot today, but dh and I were out and I was starving so we had fish and chips. Had salad with cheese for dinner though.

kazzawazzawoo · 27/03/2014 14:36

Well, I fell face first into a vat of sugar yesterday HmmHmmHmm

Life and its problems is getting to me again and I'm feeling the need to "self medicate" with booze, nicotine or junky food!! None of which are a good idea Hmm

I'm sure I'll get back on track soon.

Doshusallie · 14/04/2014 22:21

Can I join?

Am now doing phase 2 of harcombe after three years of very low carb.

Really enjoying the food although have found I am a bit jet propelled when I eat carbs!!

Today:

Porridge made with water (love it)

Big salad with lettuce, cucumber, celery, carrot, olives, coleslaw witha whole meal pitta bread and low fat cottage cheese, low fat Greek yoghurt with strawbs

Pkt of pork scratchings and handful of salted almonds

2 salmon steaks with butter, and small bowl of strawbs and cream

kazzawazzawoo · 14/04/2014 23:34

Doshusallie, hiSmile

It had gone really quiet here, glad to see someone else harcombing Smile

I've not done well recently, been eating too much junk, need to get back on track. Especially because I'd managed to get into my smaller clothes, but now they'retight again Sad

Hope you continue to enjoy this way of eatingSmile

Doshusallie · 15/04/2014 08:36

Hi kazza. Was glad to find this thread, am on the harcombe forum but it is mega quiet in there too!!

It would be useful to compare daily menus if you are up for that?

I am not looking to lose much weight, 3 pounds ideally, but definitely looking to maintain once I have done that and also maintain all the health benefits of this way of eating.

I also drink loads of water which is a legacy of low carb, and drink decaf tea and coffee.

Ate too much dairy yesterday I think so reducing that today.

kazzawazzawoo · 15/04/2014 10:31

Yes, comparing menus is a good idea.

I have a tendency to eat too much dairy too, I love cheese and find it difficult to stick to this way of eating without cheese- and cream in cooking. But I think I may be intolerant of dairy, at least a little.

I'm struggling with sugar cravings at the moment, I've been sneaking too much chocolate and need to stop. however, I'm on holiday this week, so may go a little off plan, then do a strict phase one next week.

The thing I struggle with most is breakfast. I'm not keen on eggs and don't really like porridge made with water Sad

Snacking is my main problem though.

I'll post tonight what I've eaten today.

kazzawazzawoo · 15/04/2014 10:32

Forgot to say, I need to lose about a stone ideally, but half a stone would do.
