Slimming World to Harcombe?

FourArms · 02/12/2013 11:30

I've been doing SW since 29/8. Initially on EE and now mainly on red days.

However although I've lost 1lb short of 2
stone I haven't lost any weight this week and I've stuck to the plan with the exception of maybe not enough syns / HEB.

Have seen the Harcombe diet and this seems to be more like what I'm doing at the moment although I'll have to swap coffee and skimmed milk for herbal tea and stop my 10 a day satsuma habit ;)

Just wondered what people's losses had been in phase 1 switching from SW? My BMI is still in the low 30s so I've got plenty to lose!

NotSure, fancy posting what you've been eating and we'll see if anything jumps out as the culprit?

Rosina, I only like coconut cream in curry, but not on it's own. Also not keen on liquorice tea.

Today I've nibbled nuts instead, as I think the chocolate is making me constipated too, really don't need that!

B: bacon, eggs and fried left over green beans
L: HM soup, salad
D: cottage pie made with swede
A: A cereal bar, few Brazil nuts HmmHmm

kazzawazzawoo · 06/03/2014 20:11

Change of plan for dinner because the mince hadn't defrosted - Cajun chicken breast, HM burger, celeriac chips and peas.

RosinaCopper · 07/03/2014 19:02

Weigh in tomorrow morning after 4 days of phase one with cheats of milk and caffeine, but I'm out tomorrow night and there will be alcohol consumed!

Thursday:

B: 2 x coffee with milk
L: Roasted Brussels Sprouts and bacon
D: Chicken with 50g brown rice and veg

Friday:

B: NLY
L: Ham salad
D: 50g brown rice, HM BNS curry sauce, fish, roasted parsnips and leeks cooked in butter

I'll put my weight on tomorrow. Have a good weekend all.

kazzawazzawoo · 07/03/2014 19:32

B: bacon and eggs
L: salad, prawns with mayo, corned beef
(Not bad considering I was fancying a pasty as I walked past the bakers)
D: roast chicken, cauliflower with a little sauce of cream and melted cheese, leeks in butter.
S: cereal bar Hmm

kazzawazzawoo · 07/03/2014 19:34

Have a good weekend and enjoy your night out Rosina. I'm planning on trying porridge for breakfast tomorrow for the first time in ages. Feeling quite nervous, not sure how it will affect me.

RosinaCopper · 08/03/2014 08:12

Weigh in:
15/02/14 148
22/02/14 145
01/03/14 144.5
08/03//14 143.5

So, only a pound off this week, (but I was 147 on Tuesday morning after birthday lunch, so I've done better in the last 4 days if that makes sense?)

Kazza - enjoy your porridge!

kazzawazzawoo · 08/03/2014 08:20

Well done Rosina Smile

Well, I had my porridge for breakfast, made with water, but I had no berries so stirred a spoon of jam in. It was quite nice.

kazzawazzawoo · 09/03/2014 10:32

I've just discovered hot water with lemon juice! It's lovely and doesn't taste as sour as expected, my taste buds must be adjusting.

I've managed to stay off the chocolate for a couple of days, mainly because I think it's aggravating my IBS again Hmm Had a stupid day on Friday, where I ate the best part of a pack of midget gems, out of sheer boredom and frustration at work. At home I'm much better, as I want to keep dh on track, he needs to lose another 3 stone or so and has no willpower Hmm Most of the time if I stick to Harcombe he will too.

kazzawazzawoo · 09/03/2014 10:34

Not sure whether the porridge affected me yesterday. I had a few cramps mid morning, not sure if it's caused by the porridge or still due to chocolate inflicted IBS Shock It's an experiment I'll have to repeat but not this morning. Bacon and eggs today Smile

RosinaCopper · 09/03/2014 13:21

Oh no, poor you!

I had to have a hangover breakfast this morning of cereal and orange juice, but am back on track now I think, although might have to have some lemonade or lucozade or something later. I'm old enough to know better, but had a fantastic time at a party last night, so it's worth it! (but I probably shouldn't have finished off the getting ready bottle of prosecco when I got home Blush)

kazzawazzawoo · 09/03/2014 15:51

Sorry to hear you have a hangover, glad you had a good night out though. Just write it off and get back to phase one tomorrow Smile

I let dh talk me into sharing a bar of 85% choc Hmm Also had some prunes for lunch - can't believe how sweet they were! I think my taste buds must have changed.

Moanranger · 10/03/2014 08:41

Hi, can I join in? After some research have decided to do Harcombe. My only difficulty is the book is out of stock! There is enough on internet to get me going, tho. I started Thurs last week & as of this morning I am down 2.5 lbs. I am finding it ok to follow, but cutting out sugar & caffeine is wiping me out, so I am adding in the odd cup of coffee for a bit of an energy boost.
Fortunately, I came off booze the end of Jan, so at least that is out of my system!
I know this is technically wrong, but I add truvia -just a bit - to porridge/yogurt to make it more palatable.
I will stay on Phase 1 for quite awhile -.my goal is 2.5 st off- but is cream allowed in Phase 1?
Thanks for any feedback you can give me.

kazzawazzawoo · 10/03/2014 13:54

Hi Moanranger Smile

Truvia isn't allowed on phase 1, but you can add a little on phase 3. However if you are happy with losing slowly, you could continue with it, and also caffeine, but bear in mind if your weight loss stops, you probably need to stop having them.

Cream can be introduced on phase 2, but I'm sure isn't allowed on phase 1, no dairy at all.

Hope you get on ok with it. Ask if you've any questions Smile

RosinaCopper · 10/03/2014 17:20

Hi Moanranger!

Ok, today has also gone to pot (I went to see a friend who had made a non Harcombe friendly lunch) so I'll probably just have a salad for Dinner and knuckle down to phase 1 again tormorrow.

I really want to get properly into this way of eating because I do feel better for it, but tend to be one of those people that if I cheat it all goes very wrong!

kazzawazzawoo · 10/03/2014 18:04

Rosina, I struggle in the same way. Once I eat one thing that isn't Harcombe friendly, I tend to go mad Hmm I need to learn that it's ok to make a mistake and get straight back on track.

kazzawazzawoo · 10/03/2014 19:27

B: bacon and eggs
L: HM chicken soup, salad, salami
D: cottage pie made with swede, carrots
S: cereal bar

kazzawazzawoo · 11/03/2014 20:20

I had a bad day today - had an unexpected period (new minipill playing havoc with my cycle) - and had ice cream Hmm

B: bacon, eggs, fried leftover swede
L: mushrooms baked with Stilton
D: pork belly, more leftover swede, leeks in butter
S: ice cream HmmHmmHmm

kazzawazzawoo · 12/03/2014 18:45

Another bad day - bleeding very heavily today Hmm Had 90% choc because of the iron Wink

B: bacon and eggs
L: HM chicken soup, salad, salami
D: roast chicken, veg

Moanranger · 12/03/2014 21:40

So far my appetite is really down & this was first day with no caffeine. I think I am hovering around the 3-4 lb loss mark, but tomorrow I will record my official first week WL.
On other fronts I have had a pretty bad day, work hassles & not quite yet but almost exH hassles. I am feeling rather alone & unsupported in all this ;( At least I am not reaching for food or booze.

kazzawazzawoo · 12/03/2014 21:48

Moanranger, sounds like you're doing well Smile

If things are getting to you, come and tell us here. I've had a right whine in the past. It's good to get it off your chest.

Moanranger · 12/03/2014 22:21

Thanks, kazza. I split from ex just over a year ago & still an awful lot of c*p coming my way from him. Just not knowing when it will end. At the moment I am dealing with two separate legal cases he is running against me. One good thing is I should have my Decree Absolute in a couple of weeks. I also have a new partner & that is good.
On the work front we seem to be losing our biggest client; this happens & I have been trying to get another to replace, but good news is in short supply at the moment - I am tending to get weepy & feel very emotionally fragile.

kazzawazzawoo · 12/03/2014 23:40

I'm divorced and now my children are older I have no contact with my ex, as he still tries to make my life a misery Hmm I hope things improve soon.

The work situation sounds tough too. Is it just your responsibility or are you part of a team? Hope things improve soon.

My dh has been out of work since last June and my salary doesn't even pay all the bills Hmm I'm extremely anxious and probably depressed, not sleeping well and also struggling with menstrual problems that are really getting me down.

But ... Stick with Harcombe, because at least you will start to feel better, less lethargic, have more energy AND lose weight. It does work, but you have to stick to it Smile

Junebugjr · 13/03/2014 08:54

Hello all,
I was one of the old posters on the harcombe threads. I lost about 35lb in 3 months on the diet, alternating between phase 1 and 2. I was following it to the letter though, and only ate when I was hungry. Tbf, I felt great when I was on it as well. The only thing with this diet, is when you go back to eating even a bit of crap, the weight piles on. I'm still the same ish weight now at 9st 6, but am doing phase 1 for a few weeks to lose a stone for summer. Good luck everyone!

kazzawazzawoo · 13/03/2014 09:35

Hello junebugjr Smile I have noticed that too. Every time I fall off the Harcombe wagon, the weight piles back on Hmm but I feel much better eating the Harcombe way Smile

kazzawazzawoo · 13/03/2014 18:39

My mum invited me out for lunch today Smile however, we were only shopping and decided on bhs, thought I would get soup there, but the only soup was broccoli and Stilton and I can't eat broccoli due to IBS Hmm so my meal wasn't Harcombe friendly, but I had no cake etc, just jacket potato with tuna mayo and a heap of salad. It was lovely though.

B: bacon and eggs
L: jacket potato, tuna mayo, salad
D: chicken bacon and mushrooms in creamy sauce with mashed swede

I had one decaff coffee with a little cream and one caffeinated tea with a tiny splash of milk.
