Slimming World to Harcombe?

FourArms · 02/12/2013 11:30

I've been doing SW since 29/8. Initially on EE and now mainly on red days.

However although I've lost 1lb short of 2
stone I haven't lost any weight this week and I've stuck to the plan with the exception of maybe not enough syns / HEB.

Have seen the Harcombe diet and this seems to be more like what I'm doing at the moment although I'll have to swap coffee and skimmed milk for herbal tea and stop my 10 a day satsuma habit ;)

Just wondered what people's losses had been in phase 1 switching from SW? My BMI is still in the low 30s so I've got plenty to lose!

I make the cottage pie with swede instead of potato. That might be quite carby too Hmm I might try with leeks next time. Or cauliflower.

Notsurehowthathappened · 27/01/2014 17:55

I thought Swede was fine on both P1 & P2 Kazz.

I have shopped very carefully today, lower cholesterol meat (Pork rather than Lamb) and some Benecol drinks. I have also bought Pork Shoulder Steaks to see if there is some way I can develop a taste for them as an alternative Breakfast.

One thing that really struck me as I walked around Sainsbury's was how many aisles I no longer need to go down. No fruit, yoghurt, pasta, cakes, biscuits, crisps, sweets etc.

My food tastes are certainly being re-educated !!

kazzawazzawoo · 27/01/2014 22:36

I had an appointment at the hospital today and whilst there they took my blood pressure: 120/75. I'm fairly sure that's perfectly normal. So heaven knows what went wrong last time.

Had a good day today:

B: cottage pie
L: soup and salad with prawn mayo
D: belly pork with swede
S: 1 square chocolate

FourArms · 28/01/2014 09:31

Good news Kazza :) I'm sure the other one was just a blip :)

NSHTH - have you got an appt re cholesterol readings yet?

Have a good day :)

That is great news Kazz !!

I have an appointment with my Doc tomorrow morning re the Cholesterol. Started taking Benecol yesterday (5 carb units) as I really don't want to be pushed down the Statin route again.

Hope you all have a good day today Smile

kazzawazzawoo · 28/01/2014 12:38

Thanks Smile

NotSure, I hope your appointment goes well.

kazzawazzawoo · 28/01/2014 22:39

Today I had an omelette for breakfast, soup for lunch (but it was leek and potato because we were out and that's all they had except sandwiches) and chilli with cauliflower for dinner. Also had 2 squares of 90%. I definitely haven't drunk enough!

FourArms · 29/01/2014 07:28

Good luck today NSHTH.

I'm not drinking enough either. Will try harder today to increase the water:coffee ratio!

Having a very small glass of red wine with my (grown up) son tonight Smile

Otherwise a good day:

B: cottage pie
L: soup, salami, salad
D: curry with mashed swede

kazzawazzawoo · 29/01/2014 20:33

Btw the slow roasted pork belly was gorgeous Smile So tender and lovely crackling.

kazzawazzawoo · 29/01/2014 20:37

I had my gp appointment toddy. She prescribed 50 mg sertraline. Haven't started them today. Just started taking the mini pill 2 days ago, so will wait a couple of days, make sure I've no side effects before starting something else new Smile

Notsurehowthathappened · 30/01/2014 07:36

GP appointment moved to ths morning because of booking system gremlins.

Weight up 2lb. No idea what is wrong, i am yo-yoing all over the place.

Is the Sertraline an AD Kazz. If so I think you are right not starting the two treatments together.

Hope you all have a good day Smile

kazzawazzawoo · 30/01/2014 11:05

NotSure, hope the appt goes well, let us know Smile

I measured myself again this morning - !/2 inch off my waist again Smile

Yes, Sertraline is an AD, NotSure. I'll give it a couple of weeks of taking the minipill before starting I think.

kazzawazzawoo · 30/01/2014 20:38

Today I had

B: cottage pie
L: egg mayo with corned beef
D: chilli with grated cheese
S: 2 squares 90% choc

Notsurehowthathappened · 30/01/2014 22:04

Doc has no explanation re the increase in Cholesterol. Is going to refer me, as levels far too high and I have historically had so many issues with Statins.

Not had a great day. Too stressed with only cake for company (not at home, I hasten to add)

Well done on your inch loss Kass

FourArms · 01/02/2014 08:13

Tried to post this yesterday but it wouldn't let me :(

Poss a personal question, but what's the mini pill for kazza? If it's contraception could you use a diff method so you know which medication is causing any side effects?

Interesting article re blood sugar which I read & thought of you NSHTH, but have now remembered cholesterol was your issue, sorry. Hope the appt went well?

Article here anyway

Well, I'm up this week weight wise. Only the second time and the first was after NYE. A bit :( about it but I have been cheating a bit I think & my veg consumption is down. I've been worrying too much about veg carb values. So more veg and straight P1 plus milk for me next week!

FourArms · 01/02/2014 08:17

Sorry to hear that about GP NSHTH. Is that to a consultant?

Well done on the inch loss Kazza.

I'm up 0.8lb again today. It's driving mad!

I'm going to do a carb refeed today

FourArms the mini pill is to make my periods lighter and less painful. There are no other options.

Now my son has moved back home I'm struggling with cooking. Any ideas for quick evening meals that I can cook (maybe with slight adaptation) for all of us (his girlfriend is often here too) that won't break the bank and are quick, because I can't cook a roast dinner every night after work. I'm going to try to batch cook some bolognese this weekend for a start but can't eat that every day either.

FourArms · 01/02/2014 08:54

Make a massive mince, mushroom and tomato base that can turn into cottage pie, spag Bol and chilli?

Slow cooker stews?

B - porridge & NLY (full fat NLY though as that was all we had)

OP posts:
kazzawazzawoo · 01/02/2014 09:41

Stews is a good idea, I don't often make stew, my dd isn't keen, but it's a nice easy and reasonable meal and I can do mash for everyone else.

We do eat a lot of mince because it's cheap. I'm struggling to adapt from cooking for 3 to cooking for 5!!

My dh started harcombing on 24th jan and had lost 7.5 lbs on thurs. He has about 4 stone to lose.

FourArms · 01/02/2014 11:16

You could also cook up some lentils to add into everyone else's - extra protein and super filling and cheap!!

OP posts:
kazzawazzawoo · 01/02/2014 12:11

Good idea, thanks, and nice and cheap Smile

kazzawazzawoo · 01/02/2014 14:21

Just been to supermarket (again!) to buy stewing meat, veg, potatoes and rice - haven't bought any for so long, as we don't eat them and dd rarely has them either at the moment. I'll need them to fill up Ds and his gf tho! Couldn't bring myself to buy lentils tho - I don't really know what to do with them and don't like them Shock

FourArms · 01/02/2014 16:12

I just buy either a soup pack and follow instructions on the packet or plain red lentils and boil in a pan for half an hour (skimming froth off) and then add them.

OP posts:
kazzawazzawoo · 01/02/2014 16:38

Don't you have to soak lentils overnight? Or is that old fashioned advice?

Not sure what we're having for dinner. Had cottage pie for breakfast and scrambled egg for lunch.

Just making a big pot of veg soup for lunches next week, will add diced leftover pork too.
