Slimming World to Harcombe?

FourArms · 02/12/2013 11:30

I've been doing SW since 29/8. Initially on EE and now mainly on red days.

However although I've lost 1lb short of 2
stone I haven't lost any weight this week and I've stuck to the plan with the exception of maybe not enough syns / HEB.

Have seen the Harcombe diet and this seems to be more like what I'm doing at the moment although I'll have to swap coffee and skimmed milk for herbal tea and stop my 10 a day satsuma habit ;)

Just wondered what people's losses had been in phase 1 switching from SW? My BMI is still in the low 30s so I've got plenty to lose!

NotSure, could you eat crust less quiche for breakfast? I think there used to be a recipe on the Harcombe website. Or egg and bacon crust less pie, which is lovely!

Today I had

B: cottage pie
L: 2 salami and cheese rolls - just a little piece of cheese wrapped in a slice of salami, a square of 90% chocolate
D: chilli con carne without beans with cauliflower and a little grated cheese.

Notsurehowthathappened · 21/01/2014 22:39

Mmmm the Egg & Bacon pie recipe looks good Kazz I think I will give that a go. Thank you !!

kazzawazzawoo · 21/01/2014 22:41

It's lovely. I hope you enjoy. And a slice of it will keep you full til lunchtime. Smile

kazzawazzawoo · 22/01/2014 14:07

How's everyone today?

Today's meals:

B: cottage pie
L: chicken and veg HM soup, prawns in mayo, salad (forgot the dressing Hmm)
S: salami rolled up with cheese
D: baked salmon with Mediterranean veg and spinach

Notsurehowthathappened · 22/01/2014 23:07

Daren't even own up to today's disaster !!

Am not sure what is wrong with me or where I have mislaid my willpower.

Hope you have all had a better day.

slopes off feeling wretched and ashamed

FourArms · 23/01/2014 07:19

Oh dear NSHTH. Maybe a clean P1 would get you back on the straight and narrow.

Sorry haven't posted much - parents' evening and twilight training has wiped me out!

I've had a good week overall. 3.6lb down since last Thu (prob half of that is last week's loss that was masked by gammon). Reached my 3 stone & 20% off targets. 2.4lb to go for 11 stone something Valentine's Day target.

Put on 0.4lb today - could be tuna, mayo, having a snack due to late dinner, too much fat or protein.... I'll see if it goes at the w/e because it's tuna again for lunch today!

Have a good day everyone :)

I am so impressed FA

Knowing how well you are all doing is what keeps me running after the wagon and trying to jump back on board. Without this thread I think I might have given up this week !!

However, I know that part of the problem is the January / Feb blues. I will treat today like a normal day, eating according to my new lifetime WOE and just try to forget the disasters of the last week.

kazzawazzawoo · 23/01/2014 10:13

Well done FourArms Smile

NotSure, I agree with the January blues Hmm It's a difficult time of year. I've now made an appointment to see my gp next Wednesday to ask her about my low mood and anxiety.

I am managing to stick to the Harcombe way of eating, more for fear of what eating carbs does to my IBS! I am having a square or 3 of 90% chocolate though, because it stops me feeling deprived - I would then throw in the towel I think. So I'm probably not losing weight (I still haven't weighed myself), but I'm not putting weight on and my clothes feel ok. I can settle for that for now. It's a huge improvement on my usual diet.

FourArms · 23/01/2014 21:38

:)

Glad to hear we're all keeping going. I've put some pics of the difference it's made to my size on THD FB group. It won't let me post them to my profile here :(

Hope today was better NSHTH?

Glad to hear you've booked a GP appt Kazza.

I was v.naughty today....

B - scrambled egg & butter
L - salad & Philly (full fat)
2nd lunch!!! - roast pork and veg
D - beef stew

I ate my lunch, went down to the canteen, saw the school roast and decided to have a second lunch! Have felt overly full ever since and didn't enjoy my dinner as a result :(

I had 5 squares of 90% chocolate today Hmm It was a bad day, got some bad news and just needed the comfort Shock I wish now I hadn't, I'm feeling really fat and unattractive today Hmm

Dh put his suit on today and it was incredibly tight. He's been overweight as long as I've known him and harcombed with me last year, but is feeling down due to being out of work and has eaten lots over Christmas. I've told him I don't want any more crisps and biscuits in the house and that he should join me in harcombing. I think he will, which will help me too. Fingers crossed

kazzawazzawoo · 24/01/2014 08:17

Fourarms I didnt know there was a FB page you could post photos on. What is it called?

FourArms · 24/01/2014 20:10

It's a FB group. Search for The Harcombe Diet Unofficial group :)

Hope you're feeling better after the bad news ((hugs))

kazzawazzawoo · 24/01/2014 23:51

Thanks FourArms. Feeling better now, had an evening out with my friend and 2 glasses of wine. Otherwise I've been really good today:

B: cottage pie
L: chicken soup, salad
S: salami
D: chicken in cream and mushroom sauce with celeriac

Dh on board so far, eaten the same dinner as me, but he had bacon and eggs for breakfast.

I'll have a look at the FB page, I think I joined that group actually.

Notsurehowthathappened · 25/01/2014 09:47

Apologies for my absence, my broadband is a nightmare at the mo and I just couldn't log on.

Big hugs Kazz and well done for sticking to it despite the stress.

I am dying to see your pics FA but for some reason keep losing the links to the FB site. I am in awe of your sucesses to date and delighted that you are now really reaping the rewards.

I scrambled back on board yesterday and had an OK day. However my weight loss to date is low and I dont seem to have achieved anything over last fortnight. To top it all I got a phone call from my Doc yesterday saying I need to go and see them because my Cholesterol reading this week was 9. Not sure what to make of that!!

kazzawazzawoo · 25/01/2014 09:50

Hi NotSure, I don't know much about cholesterol. What is your usual reading? I hope you get to see your gp soon and that they can work out why it's high.

kazzawazzawoo · 25/01/2014 21:43

I had a reasonable day today. I forgot to take food to work (only had to do four hours), all I had was five almonds, so ate those.

B: cottage pie
L: omelette
S: 5 almonds, 3 small pieces 90%
D: bolognese

Wish I could shake the chocolate, but it's my crutch at the moment Sad

Notsurehowthathappened · 25/01/2014 21:50

My crutch as well. 6 pieces of 85% tonight.

Otherwise relatively good today

B: Water Porridge
L: omlette

Still have no idea how you can both face meat at breakfast !!

kazzawazzawoo · 25/01/2014 21:54

I didn't think I could face meat first thing in the morning either, but cottage pie is my fave meal, and it's quick to reheat in the microwave when I'm getting dd ready for school and myself ready for work!

FourArms · 26/01/2014 08:33

NSHTH - cholesterol sounds worrying. There's a bit in Dr Briffa's book about cholesterol. Have you got it? If not I can email you some screen shots of the relevant pages.

Are you sure your diet has enough fat in it? Water porridge and omelette could almost be diet food! ;)

I don't mind meat for breakfast. Belly pork today but it will take a while so I've nibbled on a piece of crackling while I wait!

Down today - back to Wednesday's weight. All tuna gain I think and other carby slip ups. Hoping to have a clean P1 (with milk in caff coffee) day today to strip any remaining fluid. :) Have a good day everyone :)

Notsurehowthathappened · 26/01/2014 09:59

You are right about the lack of fat FA but I am now really concerned about the Cholesterol. My previous highest was 6.8. At that time I was seeing a Cardiologist because of palpitations (not connected) and she said I urgently needed to get it reduced. I took Statins which got it to 5.8 but ended up with Liver issues caused by the statins.

If honest I have no idea where to go from here. Harcombe has lost me 10lbs (as at this morning) but I cannot afford to screw up my Cholesterol.

I will read the Briffa section (I have his book) and see my GP Wednesday.

I will then need to decide what to do diet wise. I still have 21lb to lose and need to find a way of getting that off. The low carbing has been good for my Diabetes risk so I don't want to ditch that, but neither do I want a heart attack.

kazzawazzawoo · 26/01/2014 10:31

NotSure, keep us posted, it sounds very worrying. I read something about cholesterol in Briffa's book too, but can't remember much. I'm sure Zoe says cholesterol isn't necessarily bad, isn't it there to protect our veins?? (Sorry, really can't remember).

FourArms · 26/01/2014 11:55

It all depends on which type it is really... it could be high overall but if your HDL:LDL ratio is good then it's not too bad.

kazzawazzawoo · 26/01/2014 16:43

Just been to Morrisons and bought pork belly joint for tomorrow, not sure how to cook it though. Low and slow, I think I read somewhere here. Also got some pork rind for extra crackling.

Today:

Brunch - cottage pie
S: salami, corned beef
D: roast chicken, roast Mediterranean veg, braised leeks, carrots, yum!

Notsurehowthathappened · 27/01/2014 08:53

Definitely long & slow for the Pork Belly. It is too fatty for me, so I never cook it but I am sure there will be loads of recipes online.

How do you make your Cottage Pie Kazz. I am assuming you are not using potato but realise ai might have that wrong.

Not a great week for me (a slight gain on the week) but my weight is yoyoing all over the place (3 lb on since Saturday), so I dont really know whether there is any benefit from what I am doing.
